Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think it's great that Shula's ministering to the heathen of the North-East, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here,]] where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have]] - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Well, here we are. I was strongly tempted to go for the dog's dinner, dog/human bullies etc suggestions for the title, but Mere asked if we could not have anything graphic in the thread title, so I've held back. In a couple of weeks when this thead is nearing its end the attack may all be a distant memory, anyway.

Goodness knows what's in store for us now. Kenton seems likely to have PTSD, not surprisingly. Surely we must soon find out why HARRY talks so. Unconvincingly. Alice! Hello. CHRIS. CHRIS. etc, and also whether he is (as many of us suspect) addicted to opiates and/or up to no good. Too much to hope why nobody in Ambridge horsey circles had ever heard of him until recent weeks.

Over to you!

Three cheers for brian

alice is an idiot

alastair is also an idiot but at least he’s dropped the affair idea

I was only half-listening so may have missed something but I thought he was transferring so he could pursue a relationship with Denise without workplace complications.

Bruisername · 04/03/2024 07:28

I zoned out a bit so he may have said that. Even more of an idiot then!!

BeatriceBatchelor · 04/03/2024 07:39

BOOP for the scene between Jim, Alistair and Gazzer. Lovely writing and acting.

WitcheryDivine · 04/03/2024 09:47

Yes it’s great having more Jim, the three of them have a believable dynamic somehow

Bruisername · 04/03/2024 10:21

It’s amazing what a difference a good actor makes

the scene with Brian was the best acting I’ve heard from Harry!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/03/2024 21:05

Having gone and looked them up, I think most of them are black, but some websites add "or red", which I take to be chestnut. So those would be like Highland Cattle in colour, though nothing like as hairy.

Edited

Red should be redder than chestnut, though from google images it seems a flexible term in AA. Most highland cattle I’ve seen are a more yellow brown, though they’re variable too.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/03/2024 10:44

Yes, I was just thinking that when Jim, Alistair and Jazzer began living as housemates it seemed totally unrealistic and I was sure it wouldn't work, but I was wrong and the production team were right, so BOOP for them. I wonder if they had observed a lovely dynamic between the three actors off mike and thought they could build on it? I just love listening to the three of them.

So good to hear Brian too. Kate and her auras! Grin I have just belatedly watched The Traitors and there was a contestant there who proudly, in fact almost smugly, announced that she was clairvoyant and thought she would do very well because she could see people's auras, and sensed when they were blocking her. Guess how well she did ...

Presumably you already knew who won, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g?

I don’t generally watch terrestrial TV as it happens - but find I’m forced to with that sort of show, otherwise the climax is inevitably ruined no matter how much you try to avoid the news.

It’s certainly a good thing Brian was there to see Harry off. He’d probably still be at Alice’s cottage for breakfast otherwise.

Bruisername · 04/03/2024 10:57

And he made good points which Alice seemed not to hear (like how manipulative it was to threaten Harrison in order to not tell Alice the truth)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/03/2024 11:20

No, had missed all coverage! Hadn't seen S1 either. Not Mr Gasp's kind of thing. Chose to catch up while under the weather with lingering cold, cough and catarrh. More or less back to normal now.

Aww, my love for Brian has increased. He used to be such a belligerent git at times but he's really mellowed. And bloody good for Alice for dealing with Harry as she has.

But poor Harrison. I do hope he just gets a warning or something.

I know; but if she Cares so much she shouldn't mind suffering a bit herself, rather than making other people suffer.

Being a nasty individual who lives in the real world, I always wonder what the people who superglue their hands to things think they are going to do when they need a pee.

I'm reminded of some climate protesters who glued their hands to the floor of a car showroom in Germany. The staff simply turned off the lights, and went home Grin

Cf the French police, who just go up and rip their hands off the tarmac….😱😮‍💨

Makes me think of the Harvard students who went on hunger strike in solidarity with Gaza - for 12 hours

Poor dears, did they get peckish? Funny how that can affect the morals!

GetWhatYouWant · 04/03/2024 20:42

Surely no one talks to their dad about potentially having an affair( even though they both said they didn't want an affair it's perfectly ok for a married woman to kiss another person seemingly) and even more strange that Jim seems to think it's all hunky dory. I'm feeling a great deal of dislike towards both the Denise and Alistair characters, and her lame excuses about why she hadn't left her husband were ridiculous.
Definitely think the scriptwriter is having an affair and trying to justify it.

Bruisername · 04/03/2024 21:39

I couldn’t be bothered tonight.

so Denise and alistair had a snog? Lovely. Not feeling the need to catch up!

Roysnewshirt · 04/03/2024 22:13

Denise and Ali-Stare are hardly Romeo and Juliet! It’s strange how we are meant to believe their love for each other is so profound that nothing - least of all her marriage vows - can keep them apart. Sadly, the lunchtime snog seemed more grubby than romantic which is a pity as I do really like Ali-stare.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/03/2024 22:18

Yes, grubby is a good word for it; but then grubby seems to apply to more and more in The Archers at the moment, along with slipshod and clumsy. It's a shame for what used to be a programme I looked forward to.

BeatriceBatchelor · 05/03/2024 02:19

Oh I cringed listening to the pair of them. Grubby indeed.

I've got an awful feeling Harry is going to save the day for Harrison and were going to end up being stuck with Harry.

Alwaysdieting · 05/03/2024 04:46

Yes Harry will save Harrisons job unless he turns up drunk and kicks off.
Denise has sort of implied that all was not well in her marriage to John and perhaps he might not return and just Paul will come back, but thats no excuse for carrying on and snogging someone else until you split up with your partner and its all above board. Jim "So your in love with a married women? Well thats ok and I will do what ever I can to help it along" I really think the Jim I know would be disappointed with Alistair and give him a good telling off.

I dunno, I was just glad to be spared the slurping sounds which usually come with a radio snog.

stilldumdedumming · 05/03/2024 07:37

How can Harry save Harrison? The facts speak for themselves. Not sure how him bleating on can mitigate it.

Also why are they in a storyline together when their names are so similar?
