Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think Tom Archer is a great businessman, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LillianGish for the title idea, which may plant an earworm if my scansion just about holds up. @BeatriceBatchelor wanted 'plebby coffee' inserted in reference to my Bolivian coffee anecdote on the last thread, so I'll mention it here instead. Grin Here's hoping Fallon and Emma decamp to the charging station or Grey Gables, or both, to run the type of coffee shop/tearoom people actually enjoy spending time in. Tom's cauliflower eclairs and kale criossants approach sounds more likely to drive the casual trade away from the farm shop and cheese window as well as the Google Translate-named Te Rum.

Feeling very uninspired by TA at the moment, so I have nothing more to say for now. Over to you!

Is it usual to have land sales at 6pm on a Friday?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/12/2023 22:42

Well, that was a much better week than most recently. I do hope that Justin is on his way out.

Mystery buyer - how about Alf Grundy? He might have had a lottery win.

OP posts:
AngryBirdsNoMore · 08/12/2023 22:48

Ohhh noooo not another mystery buyer.

Darker · 08/12/2023 23:22

I would welcome some fresh characters.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 08/12/2023 23:25

I hope it’s Lillian - it would explain why she was there and nervous - just to spite Justin. What a patronising arse he is, asking her if she’d got over herself and was ready to apologise, when he knows full well he went behind her back to tell Shula what Lillian was planning. Good for her for kicking his pompous backside out.

OverArmour · 09/12/2023 00:20

This mystery buyer / purchaser thing is getting a bit old.

JanglyBeads · 09/12/2023 07:53

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 08/12/2023 19:18

I hope for Debbie.

Dread Hazel.

But would be spectacularly dissatisfied with yet another faceless entity (Gills / GG ‘partners’ …)

I'm going with Hazel, so she can build an extravagant mansion next to the hotel she has majority shares in.

(ok there appear to be partners plural calling the shots at GG: she has secretly married anArabian prince or maybe Vince).

JanglyBeads · 09/12/2023 07:55

Mind you we're still awaiting Stella's backstory, involving Justin.....

KingsleyBorder · 09/12/2023 08:16

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime will know this- hasn’t Graham Ryder been around for donkeys’ years? Should he not be retired by now? They made him sound too young I thought.

FiveShelties · 09/12/2023 08:20

Is it the people who bought Brian and Jennifer's house?

bakedpotatoforlunch · 09/12/2023 08:21

@KingsleyBorder I'm entirely guessing here but I don't think Graham Ryder has featured in the TA for maybe about fifteen years? Wasn't he working with Debbie on something or other? Maybe he's got one of those voices which sounds older than his years and he's maybe only 45 now?

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 09/12/2023 08:23

Oh … Vince.

If only!

Though again, wrong generation for my complete satisfaction. It really is time for the next generation to grasp some power. But £500k … Can’t think of anyone under 65 in the village who could raise that amount speedily. (I know Archers have money but was surprised Tom and Natasha felt they could have done it with ease.) So if the new owner(s) is (are) youngish they’re likely to be a new people.

Oh! (Again.) Mungo! His parents, obviously. Surely it’s time for James and Leonie to bring him ‘home’?

KingsleyBorder · 09/12/2023 08:23

FiveShelties · 09/12/2023 08:20

Is it the people who bought Brian and Jennifer's house?

Let’s hope not. Though actually it would be quite funny if BBC cuts meant that plots slowly advanced with every property in Ambridge being bought by silent incomers and corporations, until 7:02 each day was just 12 minutes of silence during which we were expected to imagine Molly Button chatting to the Gills over a Starbucks at the electric vehicle charging station.

Bobtheamazinggingerdog · 09/12/2023 08:28

More mystery buyers. How tedious.

FiveShelties · 09/12/2023 08:29

@KingsleyBorder - that may be a slight improvement over some of the recent episodes. But still I keep on listening😁

Isn’t Bridge farm sitting on a pile of cash from selling their own land for the houses where Joy and Helen live (name suddenly escapes me)? They were going to build some massive glass barn for cheese making workshops then changed their minds and just stuck a window in the dairy instead.

Kind of ironic to use the money made from selling their land to build houses to buy some other land to build a house, but I suppose the value was in the uplift a developer was willing to pay due to development scale.
I’d have thought that 400k plus for a plot to build a house was OTT for Tom and Natasha’s domestic living arrangements though- would have been another 300 or so to build the house and that would have made it a very pricey property, surely?

Bobtheamazinggingerdog · 09/12/2023 08:31

What does Justin think Lillian needs to apologise for?

Bruisername · 09/12/2023 08:33

Maybe Graham Ryder is the original Graham ryders son and we will have a continuous roll of estate agents through the generations

I assumed he would be around Shulas age but he sounded about 30

my money is on adil

I had in my mind he was Shula’s boss when she worked at Rodway & Watson, but maybe that was Mr Rodway and Graham Ryder was Shula’s contemporary?

FiveShelties · 09/12/2023 08:36

Did Graham Ryder and Shula work together at Rodways? I thought they were of a similar age but could be wrong, I often am!

Might Mungo be around the age to be doing 11+ now?

I imagine he is not the sharpest tool in the box so might not be in with much chance for the Top London Schools. They could easily write in a perfect independent day school for him a stone’s throw from Ambridge.

JanglyBeads · 09/12/2023 08:39

Didn't someone date or nearly date Graham Ryder at some point?
Elizabeth maybe?

The Cathedral School?

Graham Ryder is definitely not young:

Can't help thinking that her common sense is sorely missed at GG. RIP, Caroline.
