Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think Helen and Tom would do well on Dragons' Den, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @OverArmour for various title ideas! I would have liked to incorporate the suggestion from @Fleetress, which was

‘Do do one Ron, Ron, do do one Ron’

(Rob is Ron for many on this thread now)

Possibly a bit obscure for newer posters, though!

Anyway: we got through that last thread in no time at all. Combined effect of Rob and George, I suspect. I wonder if Rob will have made it to Ambridge by the time we need a new thread. I'm still waiting for Pat's shotgun to feature. That can't have been mentioned for the first time ever for no reason at all.

Over to you!

George also has a wildly over-inflated view of his own capabilities and ideas of grandiosity which will surely come back to bite him. Big time.

Also, farming/rural communities are small. Not physically small but close-knit and with few degrees of separation. Farmers will talk and it will become widely known what a huge liability George is - I can’t imagine the likes of Brian, Stella or David having much time for him or being a pushover in the way that Tony was.

I find it astonishing that two large functioning farms now seem to be reliant on the labour/goodwill of a psychopathic teen. Both should have a network of casual labourers who they call upon when they need to.

Good point well put!

JanglyBeads · 09/08/2023 15:35

Oh I think I missed that sotto voce bit re the charity money!!!

harriethoyle · 09/08/2023 15:54

It was in the fête episode @JanglyBeads where he was talking about the QR code for the fête history, IIRC.

stilldumdedumming · 09/08/2023 16:31

I have just listened again and I think George stumbled over where the money from Lynda's brochure would go. Rather than the hay bale donation. How on earth will he get that past Lyndy?

stilldumdedumming · 09/08/2023 16:32

Oh! And just remembered that Brad is treasurer so he will be racked with doubt as to what to do when he discovers George has diverted the proceeds.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/08/2023 16:37

He did stumble. I thought the first time I heard it, and again when I re-listened just now, that he was about to say that all the funds will go 'to us', but he corrected himself to 'to charity', so it sounded something like 'all the funds will go to u-... to charity'. We've all thought the whole thing was a Grundy scam. That could be the mechanism. George got most people paying for things electronically and the funds go via a Grundy account. They may not grasp that you would normally expect the committee to go over a set of accounts. Lynda will have a very good idea of how much money the fete should have raised, with all her years of experience.

When Helen discovers how and why Henry was able to contact Ron she will go berserk. George will deny everything of course and accuse her of being a stupid, insane woman. They are working towards him becoming the village villain, hated by multiple people.

Maybe he’ll be attacked on a dark lane and there will be a Who Attacked George whodunnit for a few weeks.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/08/2023 16:41

A re-working of who ran Matt over? Yes, I wouldn't put it past them.

Eastie77Returns · 09/08/2023 17:27

And the plot twist will be the attacker turns out to be a member of his family. Perhaps he’ll push Emma too far one day…

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/08/2023 17:46

He's going to sexually harrass Stella isn't he?

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/08/2023 17:47

Harass*

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/08/2023 17:52

I wouldn't put it past him. Sad Angry

(I never know how to spell that either.)

Oh I know someone who did that course at Myerscough.

There are lots of such courses for the academically challenged who have access to a tractor.

JanglyBeads · 09/08/2023 18:43

I've worked out why George is after Stella's job:
He, too, can't tell her and Hannah apart!

chofeshacad · 09/08/2023 19:07

Does anyone on this thread go around saying that his/her manager needs time off as they're upset about a bereavement? The scene with Ed worrying about Stella sounded bizarre. I think some of the scriptwriters have never had a job in the real world.

Eastie77Returns · 09/08/2023 19:08

Oh George is a little shit isn’t he!!

EmmasBirthdayEarrings · 09/08/2023 19:20

George has lots of online friends…

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 09/08/2023 19:25

so I don’t mind a little stretching of reality.

Well, I thought I didn’t …

Lets see if the narrative pay-off is worth this bit of fantasy.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/08/2023 19:31

Adult male ferret: between one and two kilograms in weight, well over a foot long and that's not counting the tail.

How the blazes do you fail to notice you have one of those in your trouser pocket? That's the equivalent of two or three tins of baked bins all on one side of the garment, you'd be walking with a limp.

JanglyBeads · 09/08/2023 19:34

And I need to listen again to hear who Eddie was comparing joy to... Catherine someone, a filmmaker??

Yes noticed the mention of G's many online friends.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 09/08/2023 19:37

PedantScorner · 09/08/2023 19:46

Kathryn Bigelow

Ambridge · 09/08/2023 20:08

George is both cunning and evil.

Ginmonkeyagain · 09/08/2023 20:58

So I assume George is trying to replace Ed - emphasising is previous dog murdering form.
