Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think Phoebe is a genius, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

I put the BOOM! emoticon in the title as I thought it could transition into a vague likeness of a virus if we're still going by early May, when we expect some wild contortions from the production team to get Ambridge back in synch with the rest of the world. I think I would have preferred them to ignore it altogether but I suppose they couldn't.

I thought at first she was going to leave the kids with her parents and go travelling or something.

MereDintofPandiculation · 15/04/2020 22:40

Well, we've had Emma wanting to get back together and Ed saying "no"; from tonight's episode, looks like we're in for a session of Ed wanting to get back together and Emma saying "no". Then presumably both of them will say "no" until some cataclysmic event happens and they both say "yes". It's going to be a long summer.

I'm glad Lynda's back in action, even though the probability of her being so is slightly less than the probability of a small village in the W Midlands being completely unaffected by coronavirus.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 16/04/2020 00:02

Wracking my brains trying to fathom Emma's plan for somewhere to live. Where is there spare accommodation in the village that she could afford? Or is she planning to move in with someone else?

Anyway. Ed n Emma will happen. I'm just waiting for their make-up baby. My money's on a girl - named Billie.

DoctorTwo · 16/04/2020 05:08

Shula's comment on her intrview that she won't be askd what her favourite biscuit is is proof for me that this weeks SW is a Mumsnet reader.

Sorry, my e key is a bit sticky.

The cricket pavilion? It's got a bit of a mould problem but there's plenty of outside space for the DC to play in.
She'll regret leaving Ambridge View when the Stay Home / no mixing of households instruction finally hits.

I've just looked through all the emojis on my phone, and there is every animal you can think of - even extinct ones.

But no badger.....Shock

I wonder why?

Paintingtheroseswhite · 16/04/2020 12:36

I've found it a bit difficult to listen for a bit as DH interrupts but he spent an afternoon doing DIY yesterday so I managed to fit the omnibuses in and get up to date. A few questions have occurred -

We know Harrison is a Sargent but what sort of a policeman is he? Wouldn't someone else be doing an interview in station? If he does do investigating why is he often "on the beat"?

It also occurred to me what address has Blake given?

Thankfully Corona might save Kirsty from a terrible fate as the wedding won't go ahead. If Philip is found out (as is likely) they may well go after his assets under the Proceeds of Crime Act if they can prove he's been modern slaving for some time. That means the house will go. Hopefully Philip will be found out before Kirsty is shackled to him permanently.

I still wonder where all MeanEd's Beechwood deposit money went

Langsdestiny · 16/04/2020 14:57

Ooh if that happens kirsty and Emma could live together.
I think Harrison is the scriptwriters idea of a generic policeman, on past performance he is also rubbish, so Philip may have his freedom for some time.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/04/2020 16:53

I think Burns is modelled on a cross between Dixon of Dock Green and Inspector Clouseau.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 16/04/2020 19:16

Oh. I'd forgotten about Billy(ie?) Button.

Taylor Grundy, then.

MikeUniformMike · 16/04/2020 19:23

Who is Billie Button. Is she Molly and Tilly Button's sibling?

Taylor Grundy is Mianed's make-up baby?

World's gone mad. I have no idea what day it is or anything. It's Thursday, Friday or Monday. Bernard the Bunny is a frog.
Lynda Snell has got well.

MikeyMUM gon' strange.

TheSparklyPussycat · 16/04/2020 19:35

Did Shula know of this plan to welcome Lynda back? If she did know, and did not suggest Lynda be asked about it, then she is not worthy to be a vicar.

If not Shula, then surely someone else would have suggested it.

MikeUniformMike · 16/04/2020 19:43

No TA 'til Sunday. I might have recovered by then.

Why are they so insensitive?

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 16/04/2020 19:45

MUM, you have no idea what day it is because you've omitted a glance at the BBC's tabulated guidance on which day is now which. (Which Asking C&P'd for our delight yesterday.)

Mianed don't have a baby yet - but I decided it ought to be called after Billie Eilish. (Keira was named to suit Ed so it's Emma's turn.) But if she can't have Billie Eilish, Emma might settle for naming a child after Taylor Swift.

Whatifitallgoesright · 16/04/2020 19:47

On a completely different point- in the real world Jazzer and Tracey would have shagged by now.

MikeUniformMike · 16/04/2020 21:21

Trolley sounds better than Trazzer.

The Mianed Makeup Baby would be a boy, to ensure the warring (half-)brothers potential. My guess is that he would be called Edward Joseph or possibly Joseph Neil.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 16/04/2020 22:36

I imagine Lynda is going to hate having everyone's attention drawn to her, and being made a spectacle of, which is how it will feel to her.

It's a terrible idea. Whoever thought of it obviously means well, but clearly hasn't considered Lynda's fragile state at all.

I'm amazed that Shula was so in favour of it. You'd think that someone with her compassionate and sensitive nature HmmWink would have had serious reservations about such a scheme.

campion · 16/04/2020 22:53

Tonight's scene(s)at the fair, or whatever it was, were toe curling. The insensitivity was unbelievably bad writing. The whole village wouldn't be so crass, and I think even Kenton has more emotional intelligence than to publicly single out a fragile, recently disfigured person. Tosh.

Paintingtheroseswhite I think that the deposit arrangements for new builds are different and that you get a reduced amount back or nothing at all if contracts are not exchanged. That was the impression I got and would explain why Emma was so desperate. Agree with Langsdestiny that Harrison is rubbish, whatever branch he is in. I was appalled with Borsetshire Police during the Helen/Rob business. Not one of them clearly had an inkling about domestic abuse so perhaps Harrison doesn’t stand out as being particularly bad. However, let’s hope his interview with Phillip is a sign he has improved.

I think the problem with the insensitivity shown to Lynda last night (Easter Monday) is that most of the village are used to Lynda taking the lead at village events. The extent of Lynda’s injuries is also a bit confusing. There was a scene at the hospital where Lilian rather touchingly said she had forgotten her compact when Lynda wanted to see herself which implied things looked very bad. Lynda also referred to being given a scarf (not hers) to cover where her hair got burnt. I wonder whether a woman of Lynda’s age would heal so quickly from a pelvic fracture. Perhaps we are going to see Lynda taking longer to heal psychologically than physically. Robert has always been so marvellous at ‘managing’ Lynda when her campaigning or organising has got a bit out of hand so I have found the way they are portraying this new situation quite moving and realistic.

Chemenger · 17/04/2020 07:59

That was excruciating. I just don’t see Lynda making her first trip out in public at such a big event. I don’t like going out with a cold sore, I can’t imagine going out with partially healed major burns. The whole thing was forced, the nonsense about Lillian’s hat was ridiculous too.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 17/04/2020 08:20

I haven't heard last night's episode yet, but I'm guessing from the above comments that I was right about Lynda's reaction.

I'll have to listen at 2 pm, but it doesn't sound like it will be a very jolly episode ☹

JoeGrundyWasMyRoleModel · 17/04/2020 08:28

I have only one thing to say about the SW's handling of Lynda's recovery from horrific injuries - QBL

The weird thing was that they had the deposit, they'd had it for ages all ready to go as soon as the contracts were signed, but Emma was trying to raise more so they could put down a bigger deposit and thus somehow it wouldn't matter that neither of them was in full-time employment.

That is never how it works!

Is that an early contender for the next thread title? It seems to apply to so many TA situations.Grin
