Tamsin Greig has a wonderful voice and is a superb actor, but Debbie Aldridge has been consistently an unpleasant person ever since Adam came home from Africa and she found she was no longer Brian's only farmer-child. She has griped, whinged, back-bitten and sulked her way through this century, with occasional outbreaks of back-stabbing against both her father and her brother, and ranting ditto. I was sad when she was effectively written out because Greig is a very good actor and made the increasing nastiness of her character more believable than most of the other characters' actors have managed with the increasing nastiness of theirs, but I can't say that I really miss her all that much, even as a threat to be held over Adam's/Brian's head.

When has she ever made a good decision about anything? Apart from grabbing a one-third share of a farm for which she was doing absolutely nothing whatever, that is: that was good for her, not so good for the owner of the farm...

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/05/2020 10:39

Thanks Asking!

I missed the Brine confession first time round so am looking forward to that one.

If the Grundy eviction includes the ferret scene I shall be undone. Made me cry, it did Sad

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/05/2020 13:54

You're safe: they had been at Meadow Rise for over a month before he did that.

They were actually living in Meadow Rise from 26th April, 2000, until 14th July, 2000, and the ferret-killing was on 9th June.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/05/2020 14:28

Phew!

Thanks Asking

Wauden · 10/05/2020 14:34

Quick questions:
Will the omnibus edition on Sunday contain the same episodes as the precious week, ie as normal?

What happened to the Bull emoji? Shock

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/05/2020 15:24

Today's omnibus contained the previous week's episodes Wauden, i.e. the old recordings that were rebroadcast this week

I think the emoji is still there - it's 'archers'
Archers

ppeatfruit · 13/05/2020 08:44

Enough with JD emoting all over the place. It's difficult to take in one episode with no build up SL to listen to. Weddings and funerals are much better Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/05/2020 08:52

Oh, I enjoyed the JD & Brine one ppeat

And tonight we can listen to Freda drowning Grin

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 13/05/2020 08:54

It's true they are somewhat diminished by being broadcast in isolation.

ppeatfruit · 13/05/2020 09:26

Oh I'll look forward to that thanks Bore Grin

Oh hahaha Grin Perdita In isolation ,lockdown, Grin

Radio Times Ambridge Diary May 17-21
Nostalgic though it is to listen to the current selection of archive instalments, they do leave you craving comebacks for much-loved characters. On Tuesday, for instance, Matt Crawford’s hit and run from 2017 gets another airing - an episode that sparked a “Who Splat Matt?” mystery. He was a complete rogue, yet I can’t help but wish Lilian’s “Tiger” would return to cause more trouble.
Ambridge’s seasonal events often prove to be the catalyst for big drama. Thankfully, there’s not always a violent outcome: the Christmas lights switch-on from 2014 resulted in Emma proposing to Ed. You can hear that touching moment on Thursday.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 14/05/2020 21:54

Thank you Asking. (I do hope you were able to C&P most of that rather than typing it all out!)

They're really going large on MeanEd, aren't they. They will have topped and tailed the archive broadcasts (in an entirely topsy turvy order). Will the new episodes open with them, too - or will their bumpy road to "for good, this time" wedded bliss simply be a piercing counterpoint to More Kirsty Catastrophe?

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 14/05/2020 22:00

Oh dear. Answering my own question - that's what I'd do were I on the SW team; hark back to that dreadful week when Ed and Emma didn't move into their dream house, while Kirsty and Philip did. Now, just as the first pair move into their putative "forever home" Kirsty ... well, it's not looking good.

ppeatfruit · 15/05/2020 08:17

Yes thanks for that Asking (I reiterate *Perdita's hope for the welfare of your typing fingers) !!

I liked hearing Carol's voice in the flooding ep. I miss her and EB's dulcet tones.

With any luck the SW's will take the superb opportunity to finish Philip off with Covid . Thus allowing everyone to carry on without too much misery, because it'll be just as the shxx hits the fan about his 'Gang'. Grin

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 15/05/2020 10:41

For the old episodes I have had to go into the Genome Project to copy-and-paste the whole of the cast and crew for the week, then go into Lowfield to find out which members of the cast were in the particular episode. But I had done this anyway for the repeated episodes up to May 21st, because I keep the information for my own reference. Then it is just copy-and-paste from my files to here, no effort at all.

Eventually I shall have a file which contains every cast and production team which has been noted in the Genome for TA since it started, plus all the credits from 28/3/2010 onwards because those were all put up on the BBC archers website and I simply snabbled them each week.

(The Genome Project is rather obviously scanned in, because there are some strange spellings where "r n" is m, and "l l i" is ui, and so on. These are easy to spot, and if I am doing a year at a time from the Genome I just leave them and do a search--and-destroy I mean sorry a find-and-correct for the whole year. There are also whole chunks where they didn't give any surnames for the characters for a year at a time, and I put those in. And so on. It is something to do when we are in lockdown...)

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 15/05/2020 11:35

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 15/05/2020 15:59

Read a book?

DadDadDad · 16/05/2020 11:09

Just passing by to confirm that while I may be asking questions I am not AskingQuestions.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/05/2020 17:26

Maybe when this is all over we should arrange to meet in a pub somewhere to spend a happy hour or two comparing most-hated old Archers storylines....

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/05/2020 19:21

Excellent idea Asking!

ppeatfruit · 17/05/2020 09:17

Oh Dad which questions are you asking?

I was being light hearted btw! Asking

Yes to the meeting, if I'm not in quarantine!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/05/2020 11:30

We could think of it as a "hey, we're free again" event once we aren't having to social distance any more. Could be fun.

Only we're probably all over the country, so it wouldn't be fair to hold it in a Southern city like London; we'd need to find out where the people who might like to come live and then find somewhere in the middle by travel times.
