Archers thread #114: Bull banished, Bali beaches beckon, bickering bullshitters burgeon

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/01/2020 21:48

Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like Gavin to stay around, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for all thread title suggestions! I've gone with a B theme which with a bit of luck will seem odd and irrelevant by the end of this thread. Here's hoping, anyway.

Haven't caught up with tonight's episode yet, so off to do that shortly.

I think the actor rises above it because she doesn't really like Lynda all that much, and so Lynda being made to look a fool doesn't bother her.

Fullyhuman · 04/02/2020 22:43

Today’s episode isn’t available online! It’s an outrage!

MissBarbary · 04/02/2020 22:54

What's going on? It's the only programme in the schedule which isn't available.

MikeUniformMike · 04/02/2020 22:54

Not just me then. I've refreshed a few times. Blush

MissBarbary · 04/02/2020 22:55

I searched the Archers website and it's not available until the repeat at 2pm tomorrow. It's not just a glitch on BBC Sounds app.

Paintingtheroseswhite · 04/02/2020 23:08

Dear God what was that!!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/02/2020 23:52

Why isn’t it available????

I always listen before I go to sleep.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/02/2020 00:47

Here it is

echt · 05/02/2020 03:26

I had this problem, too.

Entirely disrupted my morning cuppa followed by dog walk.

SurpriseSparDay · 05/02/2020 04:24

It’s on (the ghastly) Sounds now.

BOOP for The ReBulls!

Oulu · 05/02/2020 10:59

I think for Lynda it's a case of the war being more important than an individual battle.

I get it that Kenton's worried about his profits, but it seems a bit surprising that he isn't using this situation to argue that they shouldn't have changed the name, as he didn't want to do it anyway.

I do hope Neil's told his employers he'll only take the job on condition that he is still the overall manager and there is no pay cut. But I have a nasty feeling that he hasn't.

C8H10N4O2 · 05/02/2020 14:44

A realisation that Emma let avarice kill her marriage?

That is really harsh. All Emma ever wanted was a secure roof over her kids' heads and she was prepared to work all the hours sent to provide it. After best part of two decades in the workforce its not a lot to ask.

I don't think that going a bit goggle eyed over furnishings makes her avaricious in the circumstances, just very sad.

nettie434 · 05/02/2020 15:04

I was very sad for Emma. We know how hard it is for people in insecure low paying jobs like her and Ed to get enough money to buy or rent somewhere in places like Ambridge.

I enjoyed Lynda being hoist by her own petard although I think the B business is silly. I want Neil to go into business with Rex and Justin to be destroyed financially. I don’t like Borchester Land either. I just thought, whatever has happened to the golf club? Sadly, I will keep on having my hopes dashed and be forced to listen to Pip pretending she is the Face of Modern Farming.

I tend to prefer Simon Frith scripts. The one I really liked was Naylah Ahmed but I have not heard her name read out on the credits for a while.

Juliette20 · 05/02/2020 15:12

The whole thing about Emma and Ed not getting the house was so cruel and unnecessary, I hated it.

woodencoffeetable · 05/02/2020 16:24

can neil send his wieners to rex instead of hannah? possibly not, but if there's a loophole somewhere.

Motoko · 05/02/2020 16:33

Yes, I hated it too. I hate that people can no longer afford to carry on living in the place they grew up, unless they've got high paying jobs. All the "ordinary" people get driven out. I grew up in SW London, in an area that was mixed demographically, but house prices there are horrendous now, even for the ex council houses, you're looking at half a million £.

I wanted Ed and Emma to get their own home.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/02/2020 16:35

The most recent Naylah Ahmed script was broadcast on 13/12/2019, so not all that long ago if they have a dozen different writers on the programme.

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/02/2020 16:52

Can I please just point out that the pigs are weaners not weiners - they aren't sausages yet!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/02/2020 17:44

I was a bit torn about Lynda getting her comeuppance. It's a stupid storyline from start to finish but I prefer Lynda to Lilian.

Well, that was a load of tosh.

Impressive detective work askingquestionsallthetime. I see that was the rewilding event when Dayveed barged in but obviously it's no longer available on Sounds. I can't truthfully say I thought it was better than some others but at least it was dramatic. I am pleased she is still writing episodes. I ought to check the spoiler thread more systematically as it includes the cast and writer credits.

From Kernow27 on Twitter:

"Heard Linda blah blah blah
Heard Lillian blah blah blah
Heard Bert blah
Heard Jill hoot blah hoot
That was it
#thearchers"

I quite enjoyed that episode so I am less critical but I do love Jill being described as hooting.

JustPutThemBackAfterwards · 05/02/2020 19:09

Oh hell, not more grunting and panting Angry

SurpriseSparDay · 05/02/2020 19:21

It’s a bit sad to see Johnny growing away from Freddie ...

BeardieWeirdie · 05/02/2020 20:30

Wtf was that about? Freddy sounded like he was in speed - clearly still a dickhead, although we keep being told he’s chaaaaanged. Bravo Johnny for not wanting anything to do with him.
