Brian is over a barrel, Alice has drained the barrel and Shula has given it to Alistair with both barrels - The Archers is not exactly a barrel of laughs at the moment.

Thanks to @LillianGish for the thread title.

OP posts:

And now I have discovered my dream occupation. I want to be writing the dialogue between the louche, gilded wastrel of Lower Loxley and the (new) returning inheritor of Home Farm. Seems extraordinary now that they off-d Nigel for being too posh.

I so wonder what Ruairi will be like! I want someone who has developed a mind of their own and some originality of thought, given that he spends a fair bit of time outside Ambridge, communing with non-Ambridge people.

This is why I’m still listening. There’s so much to look forward to.

Ever the optimist, Gruach! Grin

NotdeadyetBOING · 13/04/2018 18:06

Agree JD's breathless comments about the embryo transfer were toe-curling and felt really inappropriate. Then again - I find her voice unbearable pretty much all the time .Weird whiny combination of superior, wronged and surprised.

LillianGish · 13/04/2018 18:53

I want to be writing the dialogue between the louche, gilded wastrel of Lower Loxley and the (new) returning inheritor of Home Farm. It would be so great if you could. Send them a script!

OuaisMaisBon · 13/04/2018 19:16

Just putting this here for Emma Glitterball
Also to say, I thought Shula might have said it was a mutual decision in order not to make Alistair look bad and as if he had been deserted because of his appalling behaviour towards Shula, so for his pride/self-respect in others' eyes, if you see what I mean? Probably not, as I seem to be the only one round here or Ambridge who thinks that!
I hate Brine at the mo and agree Charles Collingwood is an excellent actor! I am glad Jenny is standing up for herself against Brian, but like others, think she should have done it at Shovehorn/Ruaridhidhi-time, all those years ago.
Julia Pargeter was played by the wonderful Mary Wimbush and it was indeed Rosemary Leach who played her less couth sister, Ellen. I do wonder what happened to Lewis, wasn't he last heard of at the opera at Lower Loxley?

MikeUniformMike · 13/04/2018 19:25

Julia and Ellen were wonderful.

MeanTangerine · 13/04/2018 19:32

Ruairi is the Jon Snow of Ambridge. (Game of Thrones spoilers ahead)

Brought to the ancestral family home as a baby, raised by his father's wife, to whom he is a living reminder of his father's infidelity. Packed off to a distant institution, far from the official family unit.

On this basis, I predict Ruairi will:

  • have a passionate affair with a tempestuous Button girl, which her had to keep secret from the Aldridges
  • He will become a great warrior. Possibly via joining the Army, but as we already have Dan there I think he should become a successful MMA fighter instead
  • Brine will die off before he has the conversation with Ruairi about who his mother was
  • Ruairi will successfully defend Ambridge from the ravening outsiders - Justin Elliot and the BL board both. Where his father failed, Ruairi will succeed.
  • I very much hope that the resemblance to Game of Thrones ends here and Ruairi does not have a passionate affair with his auntie.
R4 · 13/04/2018 19:34

he he. Shula's carefully laid plan of telling Dan before the jungle drums got to him backfired! He now knows, with certainty, that it's Shula's doings and Alistair is the innocent/bemused party in the break-up.

And a new voice. Jake speaks!

GnotherGnu · 13/04/2018 20:00

BOOP points for that episode. I thought there was some serious upping of their acting games from, in particular, Alastair and Emma actors.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 13/04/2018 20:03

Fallon, though. Sad. I bet she ends up proposing to him.

And who is messing about in the changing rooms?

glamorousgrandmother · 13/04/2018 20:12

And who is messing about in the changing rooms?
Someone from The Elms?

ADarkandStormyKnight · 13/04/2018 20:18

Nah... illicit shenanigans...

Ruari? Ben? Ben and Ruari?

MereDintofPandiculation · 13/04/2018 22:14

Poor Harrison! I found his "wooing" of Fallon almost stalker-ish (actually, forget the almost) but tonight was a bit brutal.

JeNeSuisPasVotreMiel · 15/04/2018 03:46

Place marking...

LillianGish · 15/04/2018 08:56

I bet she ends up proposing to him. This.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 15/04/2018 10:06

Tom Archer. Master of tact.

Gruach · 15/04/2018 10:13

What is Jim playing???

AuntyElle · 15/04/2018 11:06

Gruach, your Ruari musings are fabulous. 🤞🏽 that TA head-hunt you.

DadDadDad · 15/04/2018 12:49

Gruach - I've listened again, and behind Jazzer's strident voice, I can hardly hear the piano, so can't even tell if I recognise it. Maybe someone with better hearing will crack it.

New Editor should definitely be hiring Gruach and MeanTangerine Grin

Puremince · 15/04/2018 16:36

If Jake had borrowed the lap top for a school project then George shouldn't have touched it. Possibly Jake was trying to get it back because he was trying to look after someone else's things.

I don't understand why Ed and Emma are responsible though. Jake is Will's stepson and George's father. If something gets broken during a tussle between the two boys, surely Will should pay?

Puremince · 15/04/2018 16:46

D'uh! That should say that Will is Jake's stepfather and George's father. Obviously George is also Emma's son, but I would think that the laptop was primarily Will's responsibility.

ADarkandStormyKnight · 15/04/2018 16:46

Totally agree. Will can also afford it.

Halsall · 15/04/2018 20:13

Gruach, it's virtually impossible to make out through poor Jim's blunderings but I think he might* be trying to play Samuel Barber's 'Adagio'.

*not to be relied on in a court of law. Other pieces are available Grin
