No, I was confused about that. Surely it would have given her something over Rob to say, "and apparently it came out from Rob!" Though Rob would probably say, "but Lilian told me herself, so I thought it was in the open."

Colonel Danby was the 'paying guest' of the, much missed, Margery Antrobus (the dog lady).

glowfrog · 29/11/2016 06:01

Justin didn't ask, either how they found out.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/11/2016 07:09

Oh yes - Aunt Laura. And the Colonel ... was he her 'paying guest' or have I completely misremembered? Yes, he was.

Colonel Danby was the 'paying guest' of the, much missed, Margery Antrobus (the dog lady). Sorry, no. They were chummy for a time, but not landlady and lodger.

According to The Archers Encyclopedia, he lived with Aunt Laura as her lodger, entirely platonically. When she died, an unsigned will was found leaving him the Hall. As this wasn't valid, a niece in New Zealand inherited and sold it to the Snells. He moved to Manorfield Close and lodged with a Mrs Blossom who used to be a silent character. Then like all unwanted characters at the time, he moved to Bristol (cf John and Carol Tregorran).

The actor was Ballard Berekeley, who was also the Major in Fawlty Towers. Very similar roles!

redshoeblueshoe · 29/11/2016 07:42

This is ridiculous, why didn't Lillian just say Rob found the scarf, jumped to conclusions, and ran off and told Tony Lillian must be fully aware that Justin's loyalty doesn't exist, and he will always do whatever suits him best.
Maybe this thread should have been Rob and Justin sitting in a tree

ppeatfruit · 29/11/2016 08:17

Didn't Justin say that his and Miranda's marriage was one of convenience? He did say that to Lil though Hmm You know like the royals of times past (ahem)

redshoeblueshoe · 29/11/2016 08:29

ppeat I would interpret that coming from Justin to mean that conveniently she has a lot of money and he will not risk that by getting caught

ppeatfruit · 29/11/2016 08:32

Funny I interpreted that as meaning they were suited socially but not sexually! Maybe they both are monied.

Abraiid2 · 29/11/2016 08:34

Think Lillian is plotting to trap Rob passing on gossip, as someone else mentioned further up the thread.

lottiegarbanzo · 29/11/2016 11:29

Haven't visited these threads for a while, nice to catch up!

The penny dropped for me re Justin and Rob when Justin summoned Rob to his house the other Friday evening, 'I wouldn't normally of course' (but I'm doing it because I can) and realised that Justin owns Rob and can use him as he pleases. That's why he took him on. Handy.

lottiegarbanzo · 29/11/2016 11:32

The scarf thing was bollocks though wasn't it. There must have been more unsaid - scarf in bedroom? But wtf was Rob doing in Justin's bedroom? Something more personal found with it?

Abraiid2 · 29/11/2016 11:56

I don't think it was found in the bedroom, was it?

lottiegarbanzo · 29/11/2016 12:03

That's my point. Unless there was something more about it, that was implied but unsaid between Rob and Lil, there was nothing at all suspicious about her scarf being in Justin's House. (Oh dear, Robert the Robot and little monster!).

SingingAvocado · 29/11/2016 12:53

Ha ha Lottie! Hadn't thought of that … [now got 'Justins house is the place you want to play in, Justins house, You're my special guest today! … There's Robert and Dee and Little Monster too' stuck in my head for the rest of today!]

SaraTheFairy · 29/11/2016 13:26

Police say the only clue was a partial label "tobeeeeee's Gin" left at the site:

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 29/11/2016 14:24

The Lil/Justin/Knob storyline has me flummoxed. Unless it's a plot device leading (somehow) to a Christmas kidnapping of Henwee and Myson, which I'm kind of expecting. Some sort of turmoil, anyway.

RockNRollNerd · 29/11/2016 14:27

Grin at that article.

When the Fairbrethren first started with the geese I think we tried to work out how the economics of the business could possibly work - we came to the conclusion it was pretty much impossible for them to make a living from it and that article just proves it - that's 1,500 geese and they're worth £100,000 therefore the Fairbrethren would be pulling in about £13,000 if they had 200 geese. And that's without accounting for feed and buying the goslings in the first place...

TheAntiBoop · 29/11/2016 14:50

And the £100k is most definitely at the top end

ppeatfruit · 29/11/2016 15:01

Yes lottie Of course, clever thinking batman ! He's taken knob on because no one else (who knows about him) in that area would. So he's owed big time by him. Handy for the SW's too.

BertrandRussell · 29/11/2016 15:05

Minor but significant correction-Marjorie Antrobus was "the dog woman" not "the dog lady".....

cheminotte · 29/11/2016 15:44

I am enjoying the rehearsals though - issues with casting, people not turning up, its just like old times.

So what happened with Pip and Jill? Did mummy come running in to defend the little madam

R4 · 29/11/2016 19:40

To be fair, Roof is trying to play 'softly, softly, catchee monkey'. Jill is being ridiculous - can't even start a conversation along the lines of 'hello, how was your day' - just straight in with attacking Toebee before Pip can draw breath, which drives Pip even more into defending him. Jill may disapprove of Toebee but it's non of her business really.
Jill can be obdurate and self-righteous at times. Rather than handing out lectures to Pip, she should be on the receiving end of one herself.
