Hopefully we can go back to an ordinary tale of country folk?

Spoilers are frowned upon.... There's a thread for that.

So who's on Jill's list?

Toby
Rex (to be thorough)
Alastair
Toby
Knob (on behalf of the village)
Toby
David (for the great move north angst)
Toby

...anybody else?

Cromwell1536 · 03/10/2016 22:37

What has Alistair done to make Jill dislike him? I know he had gambling ishoos, but dear god, the poor bloke is married to that pious slug Shula. I"d have turned to Russian roulette in his shoes. That said, if he's so pissed off with her and his lot in life he could do the decent thing and divorce.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/10/2016 22:41

Someone slightly randomly asked if anyone had had a hip replacement- yes, phil did and was able to continue as a pretty active farmer afterwards iirc.

I think D&Rs final comment on that epi means that either jill is developing dementia (its common enough by that age not to be 'recycling' a plotline)or that they will suspect she is but actually shes quite reasonably pissed off with fairbrothers in general and rationally mistrustful of Toby. Maybe she will find herself unexpectedly allied with Rex.

AnnieNoMouse · 03/10/2016 22:44

All 4 of her annoying offspring?
And Carole for winning the FF prize?

BoffinMum · 03/10/2016 22:55

Annie, that would be extraordinary, Jill Archer on the rampage, like something out of Suburban Shootout (loved that show). Grin

Bens around, but he can't speak at the moment because he's damaged his throat with burnt toast fumes.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/10/2016 23:19

Plus his mouth is full of cake.

TheAntiBoop · 03/10/2016 23:19

I thought he was still locked in the cereal cupboard?

Imbroglio · 03/10/2016 23:24

If I was Ruth or David I'd be livid with Pip.

Oh yes... She could leave her cottage to the chairman of the local beekeepers and pip can have her collection of jam jars.

nippiesweetie · 03/10/2016 23:41

Thanks Northernlurker I didn't realise Grace cast such a shadow but whatever Jill was feeling was deeply felt. Pip's a pain. Named after Phil of course.

ibrowze · 04/10/2016 00:07

northernlurker you nailed it

Don't think Jill ever found out extent of Alistairs gambling problems but we do - £100,000 of Shula's money. Yup put him on the hit list too.

ibrowze · 04/10/2016 00:14

Jill really out of character, on the other hand it might have just taken nearly 60 years for her to blow a gasket. It happens like that sometimes with pleasantly repressed Englishwomen.

LadyConstanceDeCoverlet · 04/10/2016 00:27

I just don't understand Pip's attitude to Toby. Her parents make out that she's in love, but she doesn't show any sign of it. However, she seems to be prepared to tolerate any and all dickhead behaviour from him. There haven't been any repercussions from her about him failing to keep his promise about telling Rex, have there? When you look at the way she never lets David hear the end of it for the tiniest mistake, it's distinctly weird.

I thought Jill was being plain nasty to Pip, and it isn't the first time she has shown this side.

ChickenSalad · 04/10/2016 06:08

Why does "Grace" give Jill carte blanche to be nasty to Pip about Toby? Grace died before Jill married Phil!

Gherkinsmummy · 04/10/2016 06:26

I agree; Grace died 50 years ago! Jill needs to do some mindfulness practise and stop dwelling on past wrongs.

ibrowze · 04/10/2016 06:44

Approaching thread max - any ideas for next title? Perhaps a cricketing metaphor something along the lines of Time for Rob to be bowled out or over while others lose the plot?

Fiderer · 04/10/2016 06:49

"the poor bloke is married to that pious slug Shula. I"d have turned to Russian roulette in his shoes."

Grin at pious slug.

BertrandRussell · 04/10/2016 07:02

"hy does "Grace" give Jill carte blanche to be nasty to Pip about Toby? Grace died before Jill married Phil!"

It's not that. It's about what Robin did to Lizzie. If that had happened to your dd how would you feel about your beloved grand daughter sleepwalking into a relationship with Robin's son, who is obviously another generation of charming waster. And she is sleepwalking- he behaves appallingly and she never once calls him up on it.........

Imbroglio · 04/10/2016 07:18

When I'm 86 I hope my family would have the grace to let me choose who does and doesn't come to my effing party.

LadyConstanceDeCoverlet · 04/10/2016 07:57

Did we clock how Toby's immediate reaction to Rex finding out was to lie and say Pip made all the running? He's going to keep doing that. Shades of Knob's misogyny there.
