Hopefully we can go back to an ordinary tale of country folk?

Spoilers are frowned upon.... There's a thread for that.

It always makes me laugh, I'm afraid! 'Nobody's perfect' from Some Like It Hot is probably my favourite, though.

Not much on TA to rival those. Brian's remark to Jenny when Alice and Chris got married was quite good - 'We've just got to regard this as Alice's starter marriage, darling'. Sadly, I suspect that is the direction they're heading now. Hmm

ColdTeaAgain · 29/09/2016 20:33

So sorry Gruach, that episode was dreadful. I didn't even bother turning the radio up over DD's chatter, let's face it didn't really need to listen full stop!

Place bets now for how long it takes Alice to cheat with one of t-Rex

DadDadDad · 29/09/2016 20:35

Ha! yes, the end of SLIH is wonderful. Except on MN, it would happen as a serious exchange:
"I'm a man"
"Nobody's perfect!" Hmm

Putthetulipsthere · 29/09/2016 20:39

Gasp, I'd forgotten about Brian's starter marriage comment. I guess it seems to becoming true. It's odd though, as if Alice is becoming more like Kate.

All very predictable about the Fairbrethren & Pip.

Putthetulipsthere · 29/09/2016 20:43

Cold tea - I also didn't bother to turn up over DC's incessant chatter 😬

Imbroglio · 29/09/2016 21:03

Cheers all round for Ed!

TopazRocks · 29/09/2016 21:06

I loved that remark from Brian about a starter marriage. Smile

Alice was an utter PITA tonight. She sounded about 15 with her behaviour. poor Ed - at least he spoke up for himself. I wonder why Emma wasn't with him, as they presumably have child care with Clarrie being in same house.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/09/2016 21:09

Budget didn't run to Emma! Grin

Suspension of disbelief took an evening off tonight. It was one of those nights when I just saw them all standing round the microphone in the studio. On a good night, I'm in Ambridge, sitting unobtrusively in the corner eavesdropping.

yikesanotherbooboo · 29/09/2016 21:46

Well put Gasp0de .. Utterly tiresome and unconvincing.
Alice sounded like an adult playing a child ( radio 4 can be guilty of this in afternoon plays)
I suppose Pip was no more annoying than usual but ...
Toby is a cad but can't run after Rex feeiling contrite and then treat him with so little respect
Alice had Adam's worst trait ( entitled) mixed with Kate's selfishness...
Way too much signposting of her impending infidelity ( or Chris?) who on earth makes such statements about how their marriage is inviolable??!!
Can you tell!? I'm massively irritated

redshoeblueshoe · 29/09/2016 22:09

I thought Alice was drunk and very irritating

LadyConstanceDeCoverlet · 29/09/2016 22:11

I wasn't entirely concentrating, probably due to boredom, but didn't the penny drop with Pip when she was talking to Rex that Toby hadn't said anything to him? So why did she seem genuinely surprised (well, as genuine as Daisy Thing ever manages to depict) that he didn't know when he caught them later?

xmasadsboohiss · 29/09/2016 22:12

It were right rubbish. Not one single likeable character with the possible exception of Ed, and some truly appalling acting. Alice's drunken hubris was toe curling. And OMG I could not care less about Pip.

Has lowfield gone off line? Tried to go to it and got this:

I just got a Not Found message - different from yours but still, not there

it happens from time t time. don't fret, it will be back Smile

(it didn't even update this week until Tuesday)

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 29/09/2016 23:19

@redshoeblueshoe

I'm sure I counted 16. But a duplicate post was removed before and they gave a different message.

Actually Gasp0de said . . . . . .

We would normally withdraw dupes to avoid casting nasturtiums - sometimes the delete key is quicker though
wasn't me Obvs

ALICE extremely irritating tonight.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/09/2016 00:02

Is alice becoming someone who does stupid things after an excess of rose?

I caught up with yesterdays tonight too, much stronger epi. Loved the way Emma served Rob so politely but coldly.

ibrowze · 30/09/2016 00:26

Was predictable and so boring tonight. I imagine when it's like that they are launching some new junior scriptwriter off on their first ever episode. No other explanation.

Even my 11yr old said Alice has had personality transplant. No way would someone from a privileged background who married a farrier have put another working class person like Ed into a 'here's a genuine yokel I can present to you as an interesting specimen to increase my cred'.

Thought it was JD who made starter marriage comment not Brian?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 30/09/2016 00:55

What on earth is Alice on? That was excruciating. What was all that nonsense about Ed meeting all her friends.

Alice is dreadful- was she always such a patronising idiot?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 30/09/2016 00:57

It were right rubbish. Not one single likeable character with the possible exception of Ed, and some truly appalling acting. Alice's drunken hubris was toe curling. And OMG I could not care less about Pip

Absolutely. Ed was a shining star in this dross.

BertrandRussell · 30/09/2016 04:56

I'm finding Rob's behaviour incomprehensible. Why is he going round talking to people he would barely pass the time of day with before about how badly treated he's been? He knows that all know what was said in court, surely? It's wierd.

JessieMcJessie · 30/09/2016 05:14

I agree Bertand. I think it's being done to up the drama, but has been badly thought through.

CeciledeVolanges · 30/09/2016 07:22

The end of that episode: Pat saying "there's nothing we can do!" Next thing we know Anna will be appearing saying "but wait! You, unlike everyone else who has tried except for one, will be able to put your husband in prison under this otherwise totally useless and badly drafted new law! And when he has been punished everything will be better! Henry and Helen will be totally normal again!" Cue more courtroom drama and I switch the radio off.

CeciledeVolanges · 30/09/2016 07:25

By the way, I wrote a whole rant on my blog about this storyline. This rampant self-publication but please feel free not to read/never to read again, I'm just interested in whether people agree and didn't want to spam the thread: resipsaloquitursite.wordpress.com/2016/09/23/finding-fault-with-the-archers/

tibbawyrots · 30/09/2016 07:25

I caught up last night and wish Alice would go quiet again! Her voice makes me think it's Pip squeaking and the way she forced Ed to go to her parrrty so he could be a figure of fun for her and her friends to mock Angry

Pip is equally aggravating with her suddenly "playing hard to get" yes that's sooo lovely to hear Hmm

Loved Pat telling Rob how it is. His comment to Jazzer about how he would be received was odd, He surely doesn't expect a hero's welcome when he arrives considering everyone in the family knows what he did to Helen!! Confused
