Going back to Alice, she DID sound posher , the reason IMO is that her new company has posher sounding people working in it. She obviously wants to impress the clever boss.

2rebecca Having never seen Pip I couldn't comment on her attractiveness or not, but that doesn't rule out the fact the characters are meant to see her and perhaps she IS very sexy ! Who knows? True, she doesn't SOUND very sexy, just a bit of a fun lover.

Toby and Rex SOOOOOO boring - who cares? Pip too. Josh has obviously diddled his dad out of some money on that sale. He's shaping up to be the new black sheep. Is Ben still alive?

No way is Pip sexy. Both of the Fairbrethren had her down as a "nice girl" from the start. Fallon, on the other hand, is clearly very sexy, and manages to be probably one of the most morally upright of the younger generation and makes it clear that she is off limits while also being charmingly flirtatious.

Yawn. Agree the Fairbrethren/Pip SL is sooooooo uninspiring.

I just realised if Fairbrethren are talking about their father, it looks like he (sorry can't remember his name) may make a reappearance?? Did he have an affair with Elizabeth ?? I think there was some discussion of this in earlier threads ( I was listening in the 1990s but only intermittently)

I can't really tell apart Rex and Toby's voices. Not that I care. While they're on, I'll very graciously answer DH if he dares talk to me during TA. I get brownie points for putting him first and I don't mind missing that SL. Win win.

I think in the Amb Ex when Alice was still at University (but already married to Chris?) there was an almost affair but she did not succumb in the end. Some sort of posh flat mate who was a bit obsessive about her and I think possibly had some sort of material to blackmail her with (something financial)?

Pip's no terrier, terriers are feisty and full of character... more like a golden retriever or maybe a spaniel if you ask me.

Pip has atrocious taste in men, doesn't she? So far as I remember, it comes down to two boring types and two total wastes of space. Given how intolerant she is of the tiniest error on her father's part, I struggle to see what on earth the attraction of Toby is - he's weak, incompetent, a bighead and a liar. I guess he must be fantastic in bed, but I'm not sure that would make up for those defects for me.

As for Josh triumphalising over his purchase, if I were David I'd have been seriously tempted to slap him about a bit and tell him to grow up.

I googled. Alice snogged Chas at uni, when she was already married to Chris. Don't think it was more than that (but I gave up reading the summaries, as I need to go to bed,) but Chas wanted more.

Pip is so obviously one of those bouncy, strapping, jolly lasses you find at agricultural shows wearing too tight stretchcord trousers in mustard or raspberry pink tucked into Dubarry boots or a tweed miniskirt and topped off with a gilet or a Dubarry tweed jacket with more pockets than necessary.

I used to love AMBEX too Olivia.
I think Chas was also involved in some loan shark stuff where he would encourage the well off students to take their student loan even though they were being financed by the bank of mum and dad...this was in the days when the latter wasn't pretty obligatory like it is now! The loans were then loaned onto to less well off students at an exorbitant rate. Alice knew of this and may have been involved but I can't quite recall.

Loved the Al and Dan's GF snog too. I don't think Al has ever got over that.

PresidentOliviaMumsnet, I wasn't on MN during AmbEx - but I loved it too, I listened to it secretly before I started listening again to the Main Event, after I'd stopped listening to that because of The Scream, IYSWIM. Wasn't there quite a lot of Paul and Lilian on AmbEx, as well?

Not the current one Fiderer . She started doing some work exp in the surgery and as far as I remember it was a one off. Can't even remember whether St Shula found out.

There was loads of Paul and Lils Tuktuktaker , it was quite an abusive relationships towards the end which Lil seems to have conveniently forgotten, both in relation to Helen and when she reminisces fondly about him, unnamed , to Jenny.

The Al/Dan's gf Ambex story used the truly terrible 'inner monologue spoken aloud' feature. That was really a low point I think. Didn't Ambex finish soon afterwards? Shula didn't find out about it as I recall but there was a lot of speculation as to why that information didn't spill over into the real Archers.

And yes Chas was some sort of loan shark but can't remember the details. I think Alice told Chris about what was going on once she realised she was out of her depth with it all. Didn't Chris come and rescue her?
