As doors slam shut in Rob's face and behind SOC, a new door opens for the next Archers editor. Are we expecting some New Tricks, or just Archenders?

Welcome one and all. No spoilers please!

Can't wait for Rob to call Jack 'Gideon' in front of Pat who will rip him a new one and threaten to take him back to court to force him to call the baby by his real name!

It will come to pass now Pat has found her inner tiger.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/09/2016 09:45

Was the supervision specifically Pat or 'the grandparents'? If I was Pat I'd take Tony for safety and also to reduce the probability of Rob trying mindgames or just vileness.

Tuktuktaker · 17/09/2016 09:49

I think it was Panettone, together, but maybe I'm wrong, it has been known Wink

enochroot · 17/09/2016 10:17

I think Anna said contact would be supervised by someone already familiar with the baby so I suppose that to mean a member of Helen's family. I would think it would be excruciating to sit in the same room with Rob while he cuddles the baby.

Gumpendorf · 17/09/2016 10:20

I've woken up with the thought that we have now moved, for definite, from Shakespeare to Dickens.

Whatever happened to Hardy and Tess?

I haven't heard last night yet as still away, and catching up but it seems like our Hoo editor wants to create his own storylines.

MephistoMarley · 17/09/2016 10:26

I lost you! Quite glad actually because I just listened to last night's without any clues and it was great! Fuck you rob, fuck you hard.

MephistoMarley · 17/09/2016 10:30

Courts do tend to presume that contact is better than no contact for children even if the parent was abusive to the other parent. There is a lot of disagreement with this position within children's services and domestic violence services but that's how it is at the moment.
I would be surprised if the judge didn't mention the name issue. Rob can be ordered to use the name Jack Archer rather than Gideon Tichener as it's emotionally abusive to call him by a different name to the rest of his family. To fail to specify this to Tob would be negligent.

glowfrog · 17/09/2016 10:37

Can you imagine, though... Let's say by some miracle that Rob learns to control his worst abusive ways down to mere dysfunctionalities and sticks around Ambridge as Jack grows up.

How long will it be before Jack finds out or is told his father is a serial rapist and that's how he was conceived? Confused

EBearhug · 17/09/2016 10:45

If Pat & Tony supervise access, do they get any guidance on it?

Dailymailisacrapnewspaper · 17/09/2016 10:53

What, you think Helen fancies Anna?????

I thought that was being suggested as well.

Vango · 17/09/2016 10:57

Gumpendorf Last night was an episode from the SOC drawer. Hoo hasn't started yet! Hoo knows what's in store 😁!

OhTheRoses · 17/09/2016 11:03

Surely the baby is called: John (Jack) Anthony Archer, then surname Titchener.

Has anyone thought about the juxtaposition of bullying, big headed knob having "Titch" as part of his name.

MephistoMarley · 17/09/2016 11:09

Why would Jack have the surname Titchener? Helen registered him as Jack Archer. That's his name.

Vango · 17/09/2016 11:14

I don't remember her ever changing Henry's surname, did she? Hopefully he's still HA.

OhTheRoses · 17/09/2016 11:16

Helen was married to his father and had adopted the name Titchener. I think therefore the baby has his father's name. Helen registered the baby's forenames as John Anthony Archer I thought.

MephistoMarley · 17/09/2016 11:18

Why would Helen give him the surname Tichener though? She didn't have to. She told everyone his name is Jack Archer. Parents can give their children any surname they want to. It would make zero sense for her to call himTichener when Henry is Archer and presumably she intended to revert to Archer herself!

ColdTeaAgain · 17/09/2016 11:25

I'm pretty sure she registered Jack as an Archer. I hope so anyway!

whataboutbob · 17/09/2016 11:28

Does anyone else think there's still quite a sinister tone to the story? The Archers celebrating while Titch stands back watching sent a chill down my spine . Surely Rob isn't going to take it lying down, he might go and do something awful. From coercive control to family annihialtion. Let's hope that would be too dark for the new editor.

JessieMcJessie · 17/09/2016 11:54

ohthe roses a biological mother can give a child any name and surname she wishes. There is no law obliging her to use the father's name even if they are married. I cannot see in any circumstances how she would have wanted to call him Titchener.

She wasn't obliged to call him Archer either, by the way. She could have called him Jack Smith if she wanted to.

I imagine that it is rare for parents to give a child a surname totally unconnected to them, but perhaps it happens in circumstances where immigrant parents decide to anglicise a difficult-to- pronounce surname, for example.

In our case, when we register our son we will be giving him the original Norwegian spelling of my husband's surname, going back on the slight anglicisation that my husband's parents used for him. But technically I could call him McJessie if I fancied!

Putthetulipsthere · 17/09/2016 11:57

Rob expects to be worshipped by all around him and now that his social standing is down to zero, like a PP, I think he may disappear or kill himself.

I had thought Hoo would keep Rob constantly in the SL, but I'm beginning to wonder if he is too much of a SOC creation for him to keep. I guess the ideal option for the SWs would be for him to disappear for a while, and then to return when we are least expecting it!

BlackeyedSusan · 17/09/2016 12:41

him buggering off to a job far away, then returning and demanding contact, being meneacing to henry outside his secondary school or helen in the shop would be probable.

Vango · 17/09/2016 12:44

I think the only way to make him disappear is to have him charged in the next few weeks under the new law. I know the SWs were waiting for some real-life examples before progressing that storyline and now that they have them they'll be able to proceed. A short spell in jail should give us all a bit of a break. In the meantime, I'm very much enjoying his impotence.

ColdTeaAgain · 17/09/2016 12:52

I think we're soon to see the back of Rob but there will always be the possibility for him reappear years down the line (hopefully not!). I don't see it as his style to try anything drastic now, he's lost all the power he had. He will just claim he is the victim in all this but will soon realise no one sees it that way except his parents. He will shout it's all lies, I was cheated etc etc from the tree tops but ultimately I think he will cut his losses and leave and sadly no doubt find a new victim elsewhere. I wouldn't mind a few weeks of him being shunned by everyone first though!

LikeDylanInTheMovies · 17/09/2016 12:57

cold do you think he'll go out with a bang or a whimper? I can see him going for a final act of revenge as he leaves.

tomtherabbit · 17/09/2016 13:00

On a practical level - not Helen and Rob have massively increased their profiles as actors.

I fully expect Rob to turn up in Eastenders some time soon
