Bolloxfest is imminent. Will this thread make it to the big day?

Congratulations Lil'G - glad to hear you've arrived.

(Clearly MNHQ timed their facelift to dovetail with your move...)

Have some Flowers for your new flat as you already have Wine

Right, I'm having one last go at this, tried to post twice already but the new mobile site is giving me grief...

Zero... I do check the cows at night but have to call in reinforcements if it looks iffy. Going to post now to see if it works before I type an essay about robotic parlours...

dairyfarmerswife · 20/08/2014 22:35

OK... Robotic parlours. As I understand it they are better suited to smaller herds as each one can only serve about 80 cows (not sure how many cows there are at Brookfield but I somehow imagine it is more). They also don't suit grazing based systems like Brookfield where the cows are out at pasture so well because the idea of a robotic parlour is the cow 'chooses' when and how often she is milked, rather than be milked twice a day at set times. Robotic parlours can also be good for farmers who rent, rather than own their land as they can literally be taken away at the end of a tenancy, unlike a traditional parlour. DH does have a theory though that farmers who out in robotic parlours don't actually like milling cows that much!

Bridges etc... We could in theory cope if the farm was divided by a road as long as we had a bridge or underpass. I know two farms with underpasses, though the road pre dates the farms in those cases. I also know of a farm that sometimes crosses cows over an A road though I wouldn't fancy it! Luckily it's extremely unlikely to happen here, but if it did I can't imagine they would refuse us a bridge. We are only dairy though, I suppose at Brookfield the powers that be could follow Jill's theory that they could have cows one side and beef, sheep and arable the other. The beef cattle and sheep would still need to come back to the farm buildings sometimes though. I'm not sure how big Brookfield is but we would probably have dairy cows on the whole lot... Oops, I'm fantasy farming now!

Sunnymeg · 21/08/2014 08:09

We are in rural Somerset and several farms take their cows across an A road. None of them have warning lights, and one farm is just after a bend. I always take the bend really slowly, but plenty of drivers don't. There is also a farm between Taunton and Wellington that has a bridge for cows across the motorway.

well done on the move lil - hope the second stage goes smoothly

Just caught up. A few thoughts - didn't Ruth say Brookfield has about 200 cows so not suitable for robotic parlour then.
Also can see that Em and Ed's parents are all still working so not available for childcare and surely
Will should be covering more than just a few days over the 6 weeks holiday even as NRP? aught

trevortrevorslattery · 21/08/2014 10:51

He he cheminotte could you repeat that please?

Bluestocking · 21/08/2014 13:20

Why was Lizzy so shirty about Roy after the radio interview? Did Roy set her up for a grilling somehow?

trevortrevorslattery · 21/08/2014 14:00

I don't know Bluestocking! I thought she made a hash of the interview all by herself - not sure why Roy should get any of the blame.

You'd have thought she'd have had some stock placating answers ready, as she must have known the interview would go that way.

I thought the interviewer had a fair point actually, about the effect on Lily of her mother's apparent attitude towards violence against women. It would be great if the actual issue was explored a bit further.

PetulaGordino · 21/08/2014 14:31

i think he persuaded her but she didn't really want to do it originally, so she blames him. she didn't do a great job though

cheminotte · 21/08/2014 14:58
Blush
unitarian · 21/08/2014 16:52

Is she starting to blame him for the whole Bolloxfest Balls Up?

But, yes, she didn't anticipate the obvious questions and thinks Roy should have done the interview, not her.
