It's all about the Sons at the moment. Tom is having an identity crisis, Dan is off to Sandhurst, and poor old Adam is working his socks off.
Follow the undulating Ambridge pastures here!

Death by poo lagoon.

I like The Unbelievable Truth, Ed Reardon, Clare in the Community, Cabin Pressure, The Now Show, The News Quiz and The Secret World. Down The Line wasn't bad at first but I've gone off it now. Tried the Horne thingy tonight and gave up. George Melly was reminiscing on R4 Extra, which was vg. He'd have been a good addition to village life .

Perhaps Pat will push Tony into those ponds whose name and purpose I've forgotten. No jury would convict her.

The Horne Section used to be in a post-TA slot on sunday evening... I thought it was OK then. I had it on this evening but wasn't really listening to it... sounds like I didn't miss much.

I quite enjoyed Izzy Suttie's love letters this week.

Eastpoint · 07/05/2014 05:21

Oh, I have a subscription to the 'r4 Comedy of the week' & it was Isy Suttie & I just deleted it without listening to it. Should I redownload it? I usually find her annoying.

DoctorTwo · 07/05/2014 07:00

The worst by far is Count Arthur Strong. It's the only one I absolutely can't listen to.

Shock Really Errol? I love Arthur, especially his re-imagining of the English language.

WillieWaggledagger · 07/05/2014 07:55

Few things divide people more than Count Arthur Strong in my experience! People either really love it or really hate it (I can't stand it)

I like Issy Sutie herself but not keen on the love letters show

I

ErrolTheDragon · 07/05/2014 08:03

I'm probably more forgiving of Izzy because I do like when they give a woman free rein in one of these prime time slots - R4 is getting out of male-dominated comedy a bit less slowly than TV. (Really enjoyed Bridget Christie Minds the gap a little while back.)

DoctorTwo · 07/05/2014 08:32

My NN was chosen because of the Count. I love the show, not for what is said, more for how it's delivered. His phrasing is unique.

Swannykazoo · 07/05/2014 08:56

Me me me me! I saw Humph play his trumpet on the Edinburgh date of the ISAHAC tour -about 3 months before he died. I have never found a group of people that might A) know who Humph is B) care
Willie strangely I feel the same about Love Letters - like Izzy Suttie, show meh. Mimsy I'm with you on everything about Down the line!

Halsall · 07/05/2014 09:02

I love Count Arthur too - and Down the Line. Can't abide Cabin Pressure . Takes all sorts!

Anyway, back to TA, agree that Tony is not going through a good spell at all. It seems a bit rich that after the entire family (including the Sainted Peggy) thought it a good idea to pile in to rip Tomlet apart - figuratively speaking - they seem bizarrely astonished that he's unable to take the pressure and has chosen to disappear to lick his wounds.

Yes, he handled the situation with utter ineptness, but he's their child - in their eagerness to moan about poor Kirsty, they weren't remotely bothered about what had led him to do something so drastic and last-minute.

Empathy isn't a family trait, it's becoming increasingly clear Sad

Halsall · 07/05/2014 09:03

PS am I actually feeling sorry for the insufferable Tom?? ShockShock

R4 · 07/05/2014 09:21

I can't abide Down The Line. Not that I have listened to it for a long time - I usually leap for the Off Button.
It makes me rofl when they have to introduce it as "it's written by people who did other shows that were funny and stars famous people and has won awards and all that". Is there any other show where they have to persuade us quite so much that it's worth listening to? (Apart from anything and everything by Stephen Poliakoff, although I believe that he may have actually changed his name by deed poll to 'Award Winning Stephen Poliakoff'.)

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 07/05/2014 09:25

I can't abide Count Arthur and I'm not keen on Down The Line. Love ISIHAC though, and the current affairs things. Quite like Just A Minute too Smile

Tony went a little beyond believable last night, I thought. Complete refusal to follow the suggestions to put a thread out on Facebook or Twitter in case it damaged the business was callous.

Did we get the answer to Roy's question to Brenda??

Also, forgive my ignorance, but who is Tilly Button?

WillieWaggledagger · 07/05/2014 10:15

Love ISIHAC too (we call it I'm Sorry I'm Having A Poo in this house)

Saw it being recorded but was after Humph's time sadly

I don't think Tom will be coming home any time soon, so predict stressful times ahead for Tony as he manages two businesses and gets crosser and crosser (cardiac rarer alert?). Maybe Peggy will rethink the will in light of Tom's revelations and if as predicted he shows he's not so responsible and committed to the sausages

unitarian · 07/05/2014 10:22

Tilly's the May Queen and probably fated to be like Sabrina and never speak.
I liked the comedy they created round her in the last episode.

Most towns round here have carnival parades and the carnival queen is usually a young girl who has a bridesmaid's dress & a dad who has a trailer. The young lady is usually perched on a hay bale on the trailer for the parade and goes a funny colour because she's freezing to death!

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 07/05/2014 10:26

Forgot to mention I can't abide Count Arthur Strong either. Not that I've ever heard more than a few seconds as it brings on an overpowering need to reach for the off button. Just A Minute - I've listened to this all my life. Bit meh about it now. Mr Mimsy can't stand it so I rarely hear it now.

Halsall, Can't abide Cabin Pressure - gosh! It does indeed take all sorts. John Finnemore is acquiring demigod status for me. He was by far the best bit on last week's Now Show.

Anyway, back to TA. Tilly Button is an interesting character as she is a silent from our point of view - never given any lines - but within the village she appears to be anything but a silent character. Her father is Borsetshire's Fungus Recorder, I believe, and her older sister is called Molly - wasn't she the May Queen a few years ago? Tilly is probably still primary-school age.

Davros · 07/05/2014 10:39

Spoiler

No Tom in the cast for 10-16 may

PseudoBadger · 07/05/2014 10:59

Oh.... I don't think we like spoilers round these parts :(

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 07/05/2014 11:09

Tilly Button is Ambridge's junior 'queen bee' - obviously a drama queen in the making. She's one of those loud, bossy kids I think, who always claims centre stage. Borsetshire's Fungus Recorder... is that a real thing? (in nonfictional counties, obv!)

(Just a Minute depends entirely on who the panel is. Grown up on it since the classic quartet of Clement Freud, Kenneth Williams, Derek Nimmo and Peter Jones)

ErrolTheDragon · 07/05/2014 11:11

That's not much of a spoiler though, in line with our predictions. It'd be really meh if Tom arrived back to work on schedule. They've got to keep him away long enough for there to be a breach for Rob to 'nobly' step into.

I'm disappointed though...

When Tom had the heart to heart with Pat and confessed there was something he'd never been able to say - I was waiting for

"The thing is ...... I CAN'T STAND PIGS! "

Doom music....

PseudoBadger · 07/05/2014 12:50

"And I bloody detest ready meals" :o
