Come and enjoy awkward dinner parties galore!

OP posts:
GypsyFloss · 23/03/2014 08:52

Yep.

HumphreyCobbler · 23/03/2014 08:55

I agree that the Ian and Rob thing escalated far too quickly. Ian has burnt his bridge to Helen now.

Although it was nice that Rob got punched.

Halsall · 23/03/2014 09:05

Just catching up now - missed 2 vital eps last week and won't be able to hear the omnibus because of visiting relatives how very dare they?

The whole JD kitchen thing was grim. I know Brine's an unreconstructed dinosaur but.....really? Unable to drive to the shop for food, even? Although the 'comedy' feud idea was ridiculous anyway. I do think their attempts at light amusement are often leaden-footed in the extreme.

To the other Cold Comfort Farm fans here - in the days when Brine and Caroline were having a thing and indulging in passionate clinches in hedgerows, I always used to think of them as mollocking in the sukebind Grin

Bluestocking · 23/03/2014 09:37

The whole JD/Brine kitchen feud was utterly ridiculous. To be in keeping with his character, Brine would either have used this as an excuse to dine out at every hostelry in Borsetshire, probably with the delectable Annabel (do I mean Annabel? the good-looking Borsetshire Land board member?) as his dinner date, or advertised in The Lady for a gorgeous Cordon Bleu trained supersloane to live and and cook for him. JD would have been utterly outflanked.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 23/03/2014 11:13

Yes, Ian has overdone it, but it was v satisfying Grin

OddFodd · 23/03/2014 11:19

You're all making me want to read Cold Comfort Farm again!

GypsyFloss · 23/03/2014 11:42

Pseudo we've steamed through this thread with lots of people showing their interest. What have you got in mind for the next one?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 23/03/2014 11:45

I nominate Mollocking in the Sukebind! There can never be enough CCF references.

PseudoBadger · 23/03/2014 11:57

Dare I admit that I haven't read CCF?
I'll happily take suggestions for the title but was leaning towards something weddingy, babyblessed or debty...

OP posts:
WillieWaggledagger · 23/03/2014 12:08

Cced is fabulous

TheShimmeringPussycat · 23/03/2014 12:36

AskBasil I agree with your points re Ian and Rob. However, they did train together, and this means Ian has a) got Rob's measure through personal experience and b) got personally wound up. Hence with all that adrenaline rushing through him he lost it, when he might otherwise have stayed quiet. (And it was nice to have the Celeb in among it, slightly less tacked on feel to that than usual.)

and c) this provides a plausible reason for advancing the storyline faster than it might otherwise have been - as TA is, after all, a drama, in its technical sense.

or am I overthinking again? Never mind, I enjoy it

halfwildlingwoman · 23/03/2014 12:55

I love Ian. Though I did comment to DP that I wasn't sure about his passion for Wiggo and DP pointed out that the whole point was that he beat Robtheknob fair and square in cycling because he has a genuine interest.
Hellin really reminds me of an awful ex-friend who is currently engaged to a man she introduced to her DD after a week and moved him in after a month and who she has changed her entire image for. So she rings true to me.
I like the plotlines at the moment, but find the script annoyingly clunky. And the whole week has been an advert for Sport Relief. My most irritated moment was Jennifer borrowing hessian sacks from Brookfield and it seguing into some nonsense about finding your way in the world and building on what you have and blah blah blah.

Martorana · 23/03/2014 13:01

"Something Nasty in the Woodshed......." would be my thread title nomination. Or "Worst fears realized- Seth and Reuben too....please send wellingtons"

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/03/2014 13:01

Think it was Cooroo above who said talk of Cold Comfort Farm was cheering? I was feeling exceptionally sad and down when I read it - I can only ever think of it as a deeply serious melodrama of family life. I didn't laugh once - and I still sometimes feel Sad or Angry for the characters.(And Envy about the frock.) But I'm sure you're made of stronger stuff Pseudo. (It is worth reading.)

"Something Nasty in the Newbuild"?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/03/2014 13:02

X-ed Martorana!

GypsyFloss · 23/03/2014 13:20

I've never read Cold Comfort Farm. Have to admit I'd quite like the title to stay an Archers one. Perhaps wedding related? Depends on how quickly we get through the next one...we might be done before the wedding ever takes place!

toldmywrath · 23/03/2014 15:34

WillieWaggledagger my aunt calls the omnibus 'the archers film' Your aunt sounds like my kind of woman!
Just catching up- I listened to Sun & Mon 'live' but deferred the rest to today's film edition. Smile

Halsall · 23/03/2014 15:55

Well, there is Elfine's wedding in CCF - but I don't have my copy to hand (away from home at the moment) so I can't look for any choice/apposite quotes.

There probably are a few, though.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 23/03/2014 16:06

OK, how about something involving the Archers film? I love that idea.

toldmywrath · 23/03/2014 16:40

I do like the the slang blud, used up thread, sorry coming late to the party as it were.
Baby blessing is a good name!
Zero Hahaha I misread this for new, hip, compliant listeners on 4Extra? as new hip complaint.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 23/03/2014 16:49

Toldmywrath, Grin!

GypsyFloss · 23/03/2014 17:15

Now much as I would love a thread title that went on the lines of ...

"If you've been missin' all da dissin' you need to back da fuck up and catch da Archers film' I think it might not be as all inclusive as we'd like Grin

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/03/2014 17:24

....Well I like it - and my hips are always complaining.....

GypsyFloss · 23/03/2014 17:36

Radio4xtra...for hip complainers everywhere.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 23/03/2014 17:57

I think hip complaints could feature in the new thread title to advantage.
