Come and enjoy awkward dinner parties galore!

Have been lurking for awhile. Worried for Ruth now - it would be lovely to see a happy outcome but fear that the scriptwriters have something else in mind.

I'd prefer to see them play the long game - another mouth to feed and future to support at Brookfield would be really interesting.

Addict for at least 18 years....

Hasn't Linda always been Hyacinth Bucket?

Loved tonight's episode. So much happened in those 13 minutes.

GypsyFloss · 22/03/2014 07:32

Ah but Willie they could have " death by relation to Jill" on the cert Grin

GypsyFloss · 22/03/2014 07:33

You're right it was a very busy episode and for once they managed to convey that with their statutory 5 cast members.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 22/03/2014 08:01

Fallon, Lynda, Jill, Rob, Ian, Ruth... gosh, yes, it felt like much more than that. Have I missed anyone? I don't count Wiggo.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 22/03/2014 08:03

BTW, when i-player is slow to update, you can always go to the podcast instead (here). You don't get the continuity announcer bits, which as a fully paid up saddo I like, but obviously you get the programme, and it's updated a lot more promptly than i-player for some odd reason.

Even now I can't remember what Helen said or did! May listen to the omnibus.

DadDadDad · 22/03/2014 08:26

I thought I heard David too

PseudoBadger · 22/03/2014 08:32

I think she wished The Men luck and was aghast at the end.

Yes and David spoke to Jill about BabyBlessing

OP posts:
GypsyFloss · 22/03/2014 08:52

BabyBlessing. Love it.

I think you have to look at the overall story arc. We KNOW that David and Ruth are rock solid now. Post cancer, post Sam n' Sophie, post badger, post threats, post Pip being a PITA. If she miscarries all that will happen is they will be very sad for a while. There's bugger all drama in that. However a new baby, anxiety in the pregnancy, reaction from the dc and in 20 years time the inheritance scrap is laced with drama. I will be very disappointed if she loses the baby. The long game is much more interesting.
David's life expectancy is surely at least another 30 years. That means the older three dcs (or number thereof) will have been working the farm for decades whilst BabyBlessing may still be in the 'don't know what I'm doing with my life' stage.

PigletJohn · 22/03/2014 10:46

It's nice to know the SWs always have a "men are bastards" on the boil.

Martorana · 22/03/2014 10:52

"It's nice to know the SWs always have a "men are bastards" on the boil."

Well, inn this case they have a "this particular named man is a bastard" on the boil. That OK? Or is that discriminating against an oppressed minority?

Northernlurker · 22/03/2014 10:55

And alongside ' this particular man is a particularly nasty bastard' we also have:

This man is all round lovely and supportive (David)

This man is a good friend (Ian)

This man is motivated by his stomach (Brian)

This man isn't fat and hopeless anymore (Dan, formerly FatDan)

This man is making an arse of himself (Tom)

The man who loves cows too much (Tony)

and indeed

This woman is making a (designer dressed) arse of herself (Kirsty)

This woman is all round lovely and supportive (Ruth)

The woman who loves kitchens too much (Jennifer)

and so on and so on

Bluestocking · 22/03/2014 11:29

Are you one of Tom's weaners, Piglet? In which case, instead of making daft "but what about de MENZ' remarks, you could give us an insider's view of what's going on.

How about:

This man has been a bit of a liability but is now a supportive partner, father, stepfather, brother and son - Kenton

This man is a skilled craftsman and loving husband - Chris

This man is a pillar of the community and a good friend to many, including some unlikely people - Jim

And:

This woman is an all-round baddie with no principles, driven only by the love of money - Hazel

Martorana · 22/03/2014 11:46

Not to forget "This man is sensitive and caring almost to a fault, a loving father and committed to the community in which he lives and works" -Alan.

And "This man is a bit dodgy on occasion, but his heart is in the right place and his instincts are almost invariably sound, despite a hard and sometimes disadvantaged life " Eddie.

Northernlurker · 22/03/2014 12:05

And

This man has been very quiet of late (Darrell)

THANKFULLY!

stilllearnin · 22/03/2014 12:05

Omg just realised from the long game post (good call by the way) that TA will outlive me!!

Nennypops · 22/03/2014 12:55

This man is sensible, supportive and considerate - Neil

This woman is a self-deluded selfish idiot - Hellin

GypsyFloss · 22/03/2014 12:59

Don't forget Neil in the round up of good men. He's the uber good man in my eyes.

Actually thinking about it I think we have very strong positive male characters . I like Jim as a counterpoint , I feel very BBC when I write that, to Alan.
