Come and enjoy awkward dinner parties galore!

I started listening when Brian was having the affair (I was house hunting and would drive the streets looking at properties). The Archers has had it's ups and downs and now I'm looking forward to each episode again after not being too bothered for the past year or so. I have such a clear picture of Helen in my mind and her face is as annoying as her actions.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 18/03/2014 21:16

Martorana, yes, Rob has a similar background to Adam's - so does Brian but that hasn't led Adam to condone how Brian has behaved over the years. I just think Adam wants to avoid a family row if possible. That's how I hear it, anyway!

Universal - welcome to the thread!

Loving Jennydarling today. I want to see those kitchen plans! How mad can they be?

and I want a sparkling water tap quite a lot

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 18/03/2014 21:22

I'd be worried about a boiling water tap. Isn't that an accident waiting to happen?

BeaLola · 18/03/2014 21:24

Good skills of Jenny.... Loved Brian ringing her because he was hungry. Why didnt she get three quotes with loads of useless overpriced gadgets in and the one she wanted being the cheapest and then Brian would have just rolled over, surely ? Liked her comment too about entertaining Borsetshire land etc in her currently shabby kitchen ... Strange that until the drawer handle fell off she had never shown any interest at all in a new kitchen.

I turned the volume up extra loud at this storyline as I am still waiting for a new kitchen .........

cheminotte · 18/03/2014 21:27

Love the idea of a sparkling water tap! DP says we could get a soda stream. (off ebay perhaps?!)

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 18/03/2014 21:27

I wonder whether the Rooth/David/Baby line could be that she decides she wants to terminate, but that he wants to keep it. Then we get a nasty his baby too but her body sort of storyline.

I am another one who wondered whether Pip might be upduffed too :)

Am getting a bit pissed off tired with the JennyDahlingIntuitivePentagon story. Listening tonight while chopping veg in my tiny kitchen made me wonder if she has always been so unutterably aware of how (financially) lucky she is. (Needless to say, I don't massively envy her being married to Brine and bringing up his lovechild...)

PigletJohn · 18/03/2014 21:31

Jennydarling has a buddy who recently had a new kitchen installed which is better than jenny's

Therefore we have a competitive escalation situation.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 18/03/2014 21:34

When Jennifer found out about the affair, I assumed she would sue for divorce. She didn't, and it did seem to have a great deal to do with not wanting to lose her super-luxurious life with Brian and her (rather pathetic) self-imposed role as the nearest thing to the Lady of the Manor Ambridge has. All such a long way from her early life in the village pub and then having an illegitimate child and being the talk of the neighbourhood.

ppeatfruit · 18/03/2014 21:43

I remember thinking when I read somewhere about a boiling water tap "How extremely dangerous, how bad for the environment, how high one's leccie bills would be and I like FRESHLY LIGHTLY boiled water for my herbal teas so I wouldn't want one even if we could afford it" just a pile of bullshit IMVHO!!

Twins please Ruth :-)

Actually isn't it time we heard more from the younger archers eg Josh/Ben/Lily/Freddy - personally I'm a bit bored of Tom Archer's 'i can only talk about expanding my pig business'. Yes Pip had that one story line one time but I'm sure that the archers used to be more interesting.

The affair? "The" affair? Brine has shagged anything that stands still long enough and has a weakness for a smooth talker with a fat wedge.

Including Caroline FFS.

Universal · 18/03/2014 21:54

Thank you for the welcome. I'm on mat leave and feel like I'm getting far too emotionally involved than I should. Where is Chris? So many characters seem to disappear after very strong story lines. Lillian is very quiet too.

Universal · 18/03/2014 21:59

Just to confirm - I started listening after Brains affair with Siobhan. I remember 'the son' being born. I loved the long term plots and the web of people who 'knew'.

Northernlurker · 18/03/2014 22:07

The BBC can only afford to pay a few of them at a time so they do go quiet. Personally I can't stand Chris.

Brian leered after Betty too didn't he? The Siobhan affair was brilliant. I well remember the night the infant was born and Brian had to go to some social thing and kept checking his phone. He's bloody lucky he got away with that whole thing. A new kitchen is the least he can do as they both know.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 18/03/2014 22:14

Hi, Piglet John. I think Brian's last affair (that we know of, anyway!) is definitely the affair because as far as we've been told none of the others led to the birth of a child nor did they cause quite such a lot of upheaval.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 18/03/2014 22:21

Caroline's caused some chills Grin

& poor old Betty was extremely traumatised by his moves on her (regardless of how Jennifer or Peggy felt)

Northernlurker · 18/03/2014 22:24

Of course we should not forget the Jennifer has had her moments too.....

AskBasil · 18/03/2014 22:27

The one thing The Archers, unlike all the other soaps still does really well, is long term plots. Something from 20 years ago will suddenly become important.

Corrie used to do that really well, before it descended into silliness.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 18/03/2014 22:30

I'm thinking I may have less time to post in the next few weeks - while I try very hard to work the phrases

fo shizz

and

BACK DA FUCK UP

into everyday conversation. (This may be the most exciting thing that happens to me all this year. Thank you.)

Universal · 18/03/2014 22:39

Northern - I don't enjoy Chris either but he had such a strong storyline in the summer, and now is hardly ever mentioned. Kenton getting married should have caused a few more ripples and realistically other people would have not accepted the pairing so easily. Let's hope with the changes behind the scenes we get back to the good old days where stories flowed.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/03/2014 22:41

I know someone who has one of those boiling water taps. We couldn't see the point .... takes up a lot of the cupboard under the sink. Sparkling water tap though.... surely JD buys naice sparkling mineral water, she wouldn't really want tarted up eau d'Am.

Martorana · 18/03/2014 22:44

I so want a boiling water tap. But I am a trendy lefty green ex hippy, so I acted all horrified when the people who did our kitchen suggested it.....

Hate the kitchen plot line- it's just not credible........
