Is Helen Archer the most annoying pregnant person ever, but is heading for a fall...

... maybe from her step class.

Although I cannot stand her, and find her smugness annoying enough to batter the radio, I feel a bit sad that they may make something bad happen to the baby becuase she is a bit organic.

The trailer said Helen would have a confession tomorrow, who wants to speculate what?

She's carrying the offspring of a polka-dotted cow? Grin

Maybe the whole IUI thing was made up to cover an already existing pregnancy and that's why it all happened so quickly? Did Helen have any unauthorised shags in the lead-up to deciding to go for single parent-hood? I wasn't listening closely, but remember it did all seem rather quick...

rodformyownback - love your analysis of Helen's future parenting style Grin

OMG I've only just seen this thread and have nearly started it 100x. God she is SOOOOOO annoying! She drives me mental. It's good it's only radio because it's OK to look forward to her rude awakening, whereas in rl, I am really hoping and praying that the person I know who is similar to Helen will be able to cope.

Panzee · 26/11/2010 21:03

So she's measuring small. Will she suddenly start binge eating?

NigellaTufnel · 27/11/2010 10:41

I was listening on the train last night so bits kept cutting out. But...

Must say, if that is all the comuppence that Helen gets for being so unbelievably smug and annoying I will be a bit disappointed.

I couldn't believe that Pat was being so soothing. Wouldn't you (everso subtly, of course) try to make her see a connection between the measuring-small and the anorexia?

NigellaTufnel · 27/11/2010 15:57

A very stupid queston...

I presume there could be a link between her not eating much and over exercising and the small for dates?

Even if there wasn't, wouldn't you tell her that it was a scientific fact!?Grin

There was a debate the other day on Woman's Hour about this and I was surprised that the discussion was all about the woman and her foetus. There was nothing about what happens when the baby is born and the mother imposes her food hang-ups on it.

NigellaTufnel · 27/11/2010 16:13

This has to end in a dramatic fashion, becuase they can't just have Helen being a bit annoying/nutty about everything about the baby.

Can't imagine she will eat enough to help b/feeding. And will freak as the child cannot be controlled.

Pat said the right things, small for dates isn't that uncommon for pregnancy (I hate it and it was a false alarm). I had to admit it but I developed a grudging sympathy for HELL the other day because any real worry in pregnancy is Hell.

Nevertheless, Big Snort at the "I could protect it and then it would be perfect" statements.

What if she decides that she's such a F*up that she has to give it up for adoption?

How did Tony and Pat breed such a control freak?

ragged · 28/11/2010 08:56

I HAD it even, sigh.... :)

evenkeel · 28/11/2010 11:02

I dread what psychological damage Hellin might inflict on a baby conceived because she wants someone to control - which is what it's all about with her, let's face it.

The baby will have to do/be exactly what SHE wants, whereas her family and friends (if indeed she has any - as someone pointed out, her 'friend' Kirsty is really her employee) keep frustrating her best efforts to dictate their every move. Not that it stops her bringing everything round to herself at every possible opportunity. I cannot bear her character, even if we're now supposed to start pitying her.

PrematureEjoculation · 28/11/2010 11:12

..ah yes listening now. my neighbour was small for dates...and then had an emcs when the baby was too 'big' to deliver.

and Helen has had a good cry on Mummy.

another Eddie Grundy xmas tree story. FFS.

choccyp1g · 08/12/2010 21:20

I'd assumed she was a vegetarian.

Longstocking2 · 10/12/2010 22:07

she's going to be airlifted out of her bath into a total intervention situation.
