Can we get something other than a Bee that meets these criteria?

*Suitable from birth

*Rear facing option

*Light and easy to get on and off buses/round shops

*Will fit into boot of ancient Corsa

*Not a Bugaboo Bee

Is this possible? I've got nothing against Bees but the price. The other things I've looked at (icandy Cherry, M&P Sola) aren't really much cheaper when you include carrycot etc. and people really do seem to love their Bees...

Well you could always take the hood off the main pushchair, or fold it upwards so it wasn't in the way.

I have the LoolaUp with Windoo carrycot. It is good, but is certainly not small. But no different to any of the others really.

It works well enough. I like that you have the option of folding it up in two bits, so I can lift them in and out of the car one at a time. The chassis also folds down in two dimensions - unlike most - so is pretty small folded.

I don't think they've made the perfect pram yet . But I always feel pleased that I saved a couple of hundred quid compared to a bugaboo.

PS You can see the loola/loolaup in most Mothercare's and John Lewis I think.

We bought ours from Kiddicare.com, as they had a good price at the time.

Ooh, that Oyster looks interesting, Mooseymama.

Am off to google reviews.

MillyMollyMoo · 26/01/2010 23:07

I'm considering the jane reverse solo as the car seat gets great reviews, it's £450 for the whole system which seems ok but I'm thinking the resale value of a bee would be much better.

Heated, there's a mumsnet thread about the oyster here.

Or I'm thinking the maclaren xlr and car seat for £375 and just getting the babe out the pram a lot and talking to it.

BTW Loola Up can form a travel system with the MaxiCosi Cabrifix. We bought a set of adaptors for about £10. As that was the car seat we wanted, it helped make our decision when we found that out.

WeWantYourDoofDoofs · 27/01/2010 09:10

Chicco Trio for me or Bebcar Streety?
Or could you get a different buggy for the car to leave in there and then not have to worry as much about your main pushchair fitting?

SilkyBreeks · 27/01/2010 10:32

Have identified all baby shops in our vicinity and will be spending a weekend going round to inspect various things! Got loads more to look for now thanks all will let you know what we decide.

The Maclaren XLR carrycot is nice but the base feels quite hard and it only lasted our DD who was 51cm at birth 6 weeks before she got too big for it.

babydrip · 27/01/2010 13:02

Britax vigour 3+., Newest version is from birth as seat reclines flat etc
i got mine from kiddicare - love it, some have said they find them heavy but i certainly dont and im no weight lifter
love

SilkyBreeks - we have exactly the same criteria as you, and were 95% decided on the Bee until we actually went to look at pushchairs in the shops (as opposed to online) at the weekend. We have now ruled it out!

We are going to get either the M&P Urbo or M&P Sola. They do / have all the things a Bee does / has: compact design; small fold in one piece; change seat direction; lie flat from birth (in fact flatter than the Bee!); easy to manoevre; and light-weight. BUT, we felt that they had a couple of big advantages over the Bee: they feel more sturdy; we found them far easier to operate (fold, change direction etc.); you don't see them everywhere; the seat is not so low down; and they feel less toy-like. To top it all, they are both significantly cheaper than the Bee.

Downsides? Perhaps two, but for us they were minimal. First, if you are intending to attach a car seat to the pushchair base you are limited to a M&P car-seat (urbo and sola are not compatible with maxi cosi); secondly they are marginally (about 1.5kg, so not significantly) heavier than the Bee (but feel more secure for that).

Hope that helps. I definitely think they are worth having a look at.

SilkyBreeks · 27/01/2010 21:01

Thanks! I really like the Sola looks-wise, and have been looking at the Britax online, definitely want to "meet" one

We aren't too bothered about the car seat, we are being given one by BIL and not sure which it is but baby will mainly be in pram or in car, not mixture of both IYSWIM. It would be a bonus if it fitted on but we're not fussed if it doesn't.

It makes such a difference when you meet the pushchairs in real life - there were quite a few that I looked at online that I was really disappointed with when I saw them in the shops! Good luck, hope you find one you like!

SilkyBreeks · 27/01/2010 22:11

Funny you should say that - showed DP the very offer on the Sola and he told me to order it straight away! Then did something wrong with his card details so will have to do it again with mine

I think it's definitely the best we'll do for the money so fingers crossed we like it!

I never had a compatible carseat by the way and it was fine - if they are asleep they soon drop off again with the motion of the pushchair anyway.
