Can we get something other than a Bee that meets these criteria?

*Suitable from birth

*Rear facing option

*Light and easy to get on and off buses/round shops

*Will fit into boot of ancient Corsa

*Not a Bugaboo Bee

Is this possible? I've got nothing against Bees but the price. The other things I've looked at (icandy Cherry, M&P Sola) aren't really much cheaper when you include carrycot etc. and people really do seem to love their Bees...

ps we aren't cheap, we just don't have much money and couldn't easily afford £400+ for a pushchair.

Britax Vigour?

SilkyBreeks · 26/01/2010 19:49

and I meant to do a smiling face of some sort there we are not in poorhouse or owt but cost of baby stuff is not something we can take in our stride.

After talking to some mates with a Cam I did look on ebay but Bugaboos seem to hold their value really well and I'm not convinced spending £300 on something with no warranty is actually that much of a bargain...any thoughts? I promise I'll be quiet now.

Herbie's have been reduced to half price on the M&P site

butadream · 26/01/2010 19:54

I couldn't find one. I would vote Maclaren apart from it is not rear facing but in practice I find that is not too much of a problem as DD is on my lap most of the day anyway!

5inthebed · 26/01/2010 19:59

Silky this is on Ebay and is v similar to bugaboo cam. You'd need to buy a car seat as the one sold with it isn't up to british standards, but all bugaboo parts fit it. Someone I know has had both a bugaboo and that one, and they were very similar.

If not, what about a Babystyle Oyster? Its one of the only prams that folds when it is rear facing.

SilkyBreeks · 26/01/2010 19:59

Cheers - Will check out the Britax, from a quick google it looks like a contender.

butadream, I can't find one either I'm afraid I won't budge on the rear-facing though. Plus will be walking a lot, to shops etc, so need baby to be in something so I can push, rather than carry. Maclarens do look like the shizz for a bit later on, I've heard much good stuff but haven't found anything for a newborn yet that floats my boat.

How about the Maclaren XLR with the carrycot?

tutu100 · 26/01/2010 20:06

Someone on another thread was saying you can get a great deal on an M&P Sola on very I shall try and link to it. here

SilkyBreeks · 26/01/2010 20:07

I will have to check that out - haven't seen it with a carrycot.

5inabed, the link doesn't work for me I'm afraid.

Think we need to go to some sort of pram shop, we did have a quick look in Mothercare once but everything seemed MASSIVE and I couldn't see over them and it all seemed so far away then!

Is it true that you should allow up to 8 weeks delivery time for these things as well? Think I might have to pinch a trolley from Morrisons if we don't hurry up...

OP posts:
SilkyBreeks · 26/01/2010 20:08

I got as far as the checkout on very with the Sola then bottled it - just a bit concerned as have read that M&P customer service is a bit poor and I would like to see it in real life - not convinced it will go in our car!

BertieBotts · 26/01/2010 20:09

Loola Up is ok, I have used it on buses a lot, would need to be accessible buses though as it's difficult to fold while holding a baby.

Not as small as a maclaren etc when folded, but smaller than an iCandy etc, and can fold in two parts if extra space needed.

There is a carrycot for it but you don't need it as it is rear facing and lie-flat so main seat suitable from birth. I just tucked DS in with lots of blankets (Winter baby) and he was very cosy

Britax Vigour good too.

tutu100 · 26/01/2010 20:18

M&P customer service seems to be all over the place. I have had good and bad service from them, but have also heard a lot of bad stories as well, although I guess you tend not to hear good stories.

I think, but I may be wrong. If you order it from the catalogue you can get it out and have a good look at it at home for a few days, and then return it if you don't like it.

Heated · 26/01/2010 20:28

It looks like this with the carrycot. I've considered it but for £80, or even £40 in the sale (e.g.Next had it at half price) am not sure it's a good investment for 2-3 months as it's very small.

Heated · 26/01/2010 20:43

I'm not getting a Bugaboo, will be our last child and can't justify the expense, plus seeing someone struggle with it on our rural pavements put me off.

Loola is on the list, although will need to check out seat positions (some debate as to whether it goes into an upright positions) and it's not as light as I would like.

Maclaren is a consideration even though it isn't rear facing, but having gone through 3 less well reviewed prams (will never buy an M&P again) with my two other dcs, Maclaren really does feel robust yet light

There is the silvercross which is outreviewed by Maclaren and Bee
My3

SilkyBreeks · 26/01/2010 20:55

For some reason links never work for me on here

I think we looked at the Silver Cross but it was just too big, we are really pushed for space, but will put it on the list to check out again.

Saw a Loola in the street the other day and it did look nice but I was shocked at how big it was. Might have to get partner to stand next to them all as he is not a pygmy like I am

Perhaps we are being cheap. Have spoken to a couple of other people who are expecting and they are getting Cam and icandy pear! They cost more than our car did

Bit worried about buy cheap buy twice as someone else said. It's a big deal and I wish I could abdicate the responsibility to someone else. I might just shut my eyes and point! Then pick DP off the floor when he sees how much I want us to spend (don't have enough buying power myself to buy first and justify later!)

Silky, if you type in baby jogger smart stroller in Ebay it'll bring up that bugaboo cam lookalike. hth.

Heated · 26/01/2010 21:06

Ok, if you c&p the URL, you should be able to see the Maclaren with carrycot - spent blooming ages tracking down this image myself the other day to see what it would look like

www.mothercare.com/Maclaren-Techno-XLR-Softcot-Champagne/dp/B001NWH0U2/sr=1-5/qid=123 4862644/ref=sr15/278-1936833-7462624?_encoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42764041&mcb=core&tduid=2c3 6e668622498b079e57e41190b6914

Heated · 26/01/2010 21:11

Mothercare My3 URL

www.mothercare.com/My3-3-wheeler-travel-system-Black/dp/B00116V3NK?_encoding=UTF8&

Quinny Buzz

which comes as a 3 wheeler and 4. The JLewis site says it's suitable from birth, Mothercare seem to disagree, although this may be down to a difference in model.

SilkyBreeks · 26/01/2010 21:11

Ah bless you!

I think I'll have to look at that in a shop to understand it fully though, it's a bizarre-looking arrangement and am I right in thinking even though baby is facing you, you wouldn't actually be able to see each other cos of the back of the pram?

OP posts:
Heated · 26/01/2010 21:14

Damn, now it looks like I just can't do links!

I'm not sure there is a pram that fits all of the criteria but SilkyBreeks, when you do decide on a pram, would be very interested to learn what you choose, since what you're after is very similar to what we want(without the small boot requirement)

Heated · 26/01/2010 21:16

My thoughts exactly, not exactly parent facing, just rear-back-of-pram facing whilst they're small enough to fit in the carrycot.

SilkyBreeks · 26/01/2010 21:28

Kind of defeats the object doesn't it! I was looking at M&P Luna as have chance of one from cousin but (awful reviews aside) that seems to be the same thing? Weird.

Heated, when do you need yours for? Baby due in April here - are you expecting or hoping to expect?

I think we might have to back down on the car thing which will be a massive pain for DP but is less important than me getting around with baby without car. It's all sooooo confusing and I haven't even thought about what this poor child will sleep in! Having looked at threads about schools this is nothing though can't wait for all that business (as someone who naively thought we could just send them to the one at the end of the street!)

OP posts:
Heated · 26/01/2010 21:52

Am expecting my 3rd in July (ds1 was an April baby and it's imo a lovely time of year with the summer for you and nb to laze around in) but feel woefully out of practice and have forgotten so much. But having your first is just so exciting!

We already have a ds and dd and have no preferences either way. Do you already know the sex or are you leaving it as a surprise a bit longer?

moosemama · 26/01/2010 22:41

Have you seen the babystyle oyster?

I don't have any experience of it, but thought it looked good for the price. In fact I was a bit peeved as it has everything that was on my list a year ago when I was looking for a puschair for dd. I got a BabyJogger City Elite, which I adore but I still wish I'd gone for something rearfacing.

Its fits all your criteria and prices start at about £225 on ebay. You can get a carrcot for it, but I think its suitable from birth without one.

There is a video of it on their website here
