Don't get me wrong maxy and nicola - I take my hat off to you - I think being a SAHM is much harder than being in the office - I am just stressed about my patronizing manager and the fact I am the only person in the office with children in childcare - so no-one has a clue about tearing around trying to get in on time.

nicolamumof3 · 24/10/2009 18:37

i know how you feel, i was often in at my desk at 7.30/8am on mornings when tom had stayed at his desk but still got the tuts and stares when i dared to leave at 5pm then run for the train to make it for nursery at 6pm close. DS1 was always last to be collected standing there in his coat and backpack all the lights off and the obligatory member of staff staying by his side. was awful

janx · 24/10/2009 19:10

Poor wee thing...bet it was much worse for you though. We try and pick up Luka at 5 - but that means dp ends up doing 2 days of 12 hours a day and 3 days of 9 hours...and often weekends

Is FlyMeToDunoon around? Want to ask you a totally unrelated to pushchair question

nicolamumof3 · 24/10/2009 19:20

he's not exactly psychologically scarred tho he's fine now! im glad i was always here to pick him up from school and be around then.

SpookyScattyKatty · 24/10/2009 19:31

What did you used to do Nicola? I hate DS so be the last to be picked up, it must have been really sad for you

Watching Strictly now best part of the week

SpookyScattyKatty · 24/10/2009 19:33

ooops I'd hate DS to be..... watching Zoe and James, not typing so well

FlyMeToDunoon · 24/10/2009 19:37

hello Janx?

janx · 24/10/2009 20:03

Hi Dunoon - saw your name mentioned on a thread about curly hair?...need some advice for dd's hair...couldn't make any sense from the thread - something about co-washing and cones? can you spell it out for me - here is a pic of dd to illustrate my point!
"3-4girls"

FlyMeToDunoon · 24/10/2009 20:27

Hey cute!
It's the curly girl method:
No washing with shampoo or limited use with a shampoo without 'cones'-silicones.
Instead wash with conditioner, one without cones like Original Source. Massage scalp to keep clean [hmmm jury's out on that one but ok for me so far] Rinse, condition again rinse.
Apply product like Boots pink cream. Then leaning over and dangling hair down blot with a smooth cloth like a T shirt. Then you can 'plop' that is plop the hair into the cloth and tie up onto your head for 20 mins or so.
'co-washing' is washing with conditioner.
'pooing' is shampooing.
'cones' silicone.

There are certain recommended products which don't contain 'bad stuff' silicone, sodium lauryl sulphate etc. There should be lists on the thread.

Oh and if you want to start this method you should wash the hair once with a 'good' shampoo to get rid of silicone build up first.

Otherwise I used to use Aussie Mega Moist shampoo normally and that really helped with my dry curly hair.
Hope that clears up a few things.

Evening all

Went to change my car today, I hate all the salesman patter, got to a price I was happy with but wanted to think it over on the way home even with his 'there's someone else really interested'. I rang back an hour later and they had in fact sold it!!!! I don't really want it (zafira) but it was just what I was looking for so back to the search for zafira or touran.

I bought a zapp frame and adaptors last night to leave in the boot so happy with that.

I hated working so many hours though I love love love my job. 3 days now suits me and dd just right. I have to say the thought of not working for the next 7 months I do find a bit daunting as often I go to work for a rest (well not really as it's hard work but just so diff)

janx · 24/10/2009 21:56

Oh thanks - was baffled by pooing = shampooing. Definately going to try it as dds hair is pretty hard work

5inthetomb · 24/10/2009 22:27

I hated tdoing the whole working mam thing. Worked when ds1+2 were little little, and so glad I was made redundant last year. No way could I work with 3 dc's, a home and a DH to look after.

Took my first drive out today . Had to get DH to park the car though in Tesco car park as was too busy and was scared of pranging someones car.

basl · 24/10/2009 23:26

Hi everyone, just been reading all about everyones child care. Nic i do feel sad when i read your little one was last to be picked up bless you that must have been hard. I agree worst for you than little one. My dd goes to the woods every monday with nursery. I have to walk about 45min to take her there and one day a waited for the local bus and it never appeared. dd was crying when i had jogged all the way to pick her up. She was the last and i felt terrible. Anyway i am a sahm? but work at night. This is hard i find as i am at home all day looking after the kids and going to A&E then i get the pleasure of going out to work at 7pm till midnight. That is why i post really late at night. My ds gets up at 6.30 am so not much sleep. It is so hard to mix work and home but i love that i can look after my kids and squeeze in a few hours at work.

horsemadgal · 24/10/2009 23:39

Gah to working, I hate it. Can never understand why people go for a rest. You just come home to as much cooking, washing, etc etc.
I'm not back until Feb, can see it far enough.

carrielou2007 · 25/10/2009 05:50

Just a radom thought, Bexie do your parents live in Reading?? Will you see them again before the birth?? Only I'm going to Reading later to look at a car and thought if I buy it when I go back to get it next week or so could drop pliko off with your parents??

I find when I'm at work my house stays nice and tidy and when I'm off I could have hoovered/tidied up/washed up umpteen times in the day yet you can never tell!! I am dreading working with two and I have no backup from dd's dad.

nicolamumof3 · 25/10/2009 06:05

I spose re.working it all depends on your family circs too and how many children you had. i was a single parent from when tom was 15m to 5yrs old i had a really good job i loved i was an insurance underwriter in the City and earned good money, good perks lots of travel etc then became pg, it really was a mans world to work in and i'd worked so hard to get where i was i loved the job. Plus when tom was 15m old i was on my own so no chance of being SAHM. Agree with 5in with 3dc's and a DH to look after working does become hard work and its what you come home to!! you then start another job as the house doesn't stay tidy etc!!

nicolamumof3 · 25/10/2009 06:06

happy birthday dear maxy!!!

nicolamumof3 · 25/10/2009 06:07

happy birthday maxy

carrie what car you offto see?

carrielou2007 · 25/10/2009 08:08

I woke up ususal time and had a lie in too but dd couldn't work it out so still woke up at quarter to seven!!

Happy birthday Maxy!!!

Sal another zafira, black 1.8 I love the humungous boot to store prams (that if it's raining won't even need to fold down!!) and all my equip for work. You've got one haven't you?? I really wanted the diesel but unless I want a 1.6 everything else is a bit thin on the ground.

janx · 25/10/2009 08:09

Oh its your birthday - have a lovely day - the sun is shining in London - hope it is up north

carrielou2007 · 25/10/2009 08:22

OOh I've just had a lovely suprise, went to transfer some money if I do put down a deposit on a car (they charge extra for credit car ) and my 190 health in preg grant has gone in!!! My midwife said it is to make sure you eat healithy - but of course with a 2 year old in the house we eat fruit and veg until it is coming out of our ears!!
