Ordered a pushchair - have I made a mistake?!

Hi

I've just ordered a Graco Evo mini for my 8 month old to replace my cumbersome travel system. I love the lightness and large basket of the Evo mini but am a bit torn as to whether I will regret my decision. I really want to be sure before I use it outdoors for the first time in case I want to return it.

Is there any pushchair I haven't considered? I want lightweight (7kg or so), decent basket, easy to push. Small enough to take on holiday abroad. Ideally I would love a parent facing option but I don't think this exists? If it did this would probably make the choice for me!

Thanks

the bugaboo bee is lightweight and can face either way, might be able to pick up an ebay bargain as quite expensive new.

this looks good to, a smaller version of the vista which is a fab buggy www.johnlewis.com/uppababy-cruz-pushchair-maeve-lilac/p579512

What about the Petite Star NJoy Bubble? Not sure about the size of the basket but it's an umbrella folding one that can parent face too.

Macocious · 02/05/2014 15:03

Bugaboo bee looks nice but I've discounted it in the past as it's sooo expensive. Will have to keep a look out on ebay though. Uppababy cruz is too heavy for me - not much lighter than the vista I already have, although it is definitely smaller! Reviews of the Petite Star bubble suggest that the basket is useless. I absolutely love my vista basket so wouldn't be able to cope with a rubbish one.

Parent facing is probably too much of a big ask. I hope I get on with the evo mini.

Or even the Quinny Zapp Xtra? That's very similar to the Evo Mini but parent faces too.

Tiggywunkle · 04/05/2014 00:04

I have a variety of pushchairs, but I have a Graco Evo Mini amongst them simply because there is not much which beats it for a lightweight pushchair with a huge basket. Its so easy to use, has a huge seat, and all round its really excellent. I would try it out at home first, and check you are happy. if not, then you can still return it.

Macocious · 07/05/2014 09:34

I've received the Evo Mini and it's lovely and light but much wider than I thought it would be. The only dimensions I could find quoted online say 48cm wide but it's actually 57cm which is not that much narrower than the vista. The fold isn't as small as I'd hoped but I think I'm expecting too much!!

Have a look at the red kite zumi, that's 52/53cm wide and folds small and v small if you remove wheels. I'm assuming you've discounted a bee, which is pretty much the smallest parent facer and then njoy bubble as mentioned up thread..

Macocious · 07/05/2014 11:46

I'd like to have a look at the zumi in person as I've read the fabrics feel really cheap which puts me off a bit. Bee would be lovely but have been looking at second hand and they're still really expensive! Is the njoy bubble the one that is really hard to push parent facing?

I'm not sure, it may be. It will certainly be different being umbrella fold, probably not a one handed steering job. The fabrics on the zumi are pretty much the worst part about it imo, it's a shame. It's more that they look flimsy and too see through than any practical issue I have had with them. Mine is 7 months old and used almost daily for 3 miles of school runs plus other stuff on top and the fabrics still look fine and nothing has broken. Genuinely small single handle stroller type perfection is hard to find though. My other pushchair is a babyhome emotion, it has been the one that has stayed whilst other things came and went. It's not perfect either though, doesn't lie flat, hood isn't massive and the seat is a bit too reclined. These compromises have worked fine for us but yours might just as easily be a different set of compromises. Width is an obvious place to compromise in a way.

Ihateparties · 07/05/2014 16:43

Sorry, I have no idea why that link has come out like that :-/

Macocious · 07/05/2014 19:16

Wow that babyhome emotion looks good! Shame there are no second hand ones on eBay. I think I could put up with the cons you mention apart from maybe it not being very upright.

OP posts:
Ihateparties · 07/05/2014 19:21

It's a seriously good pushchair, the easiest thing ever to push, very light (under 6kg), decent basket and far more robust than I would have predicted I didn't push it home from town with 16.5kg and 13kg dds both in it yesterday.. Oh no.. Wouldn't do anything like that. It has easily withstood 3 years of use and abuse. I definitely feel I have had my £225 worth out of it!

Macocious · 07/05/2014 19:36

I take it there aren't any UK stockists?

OP posts:
Macocious · 07/05/2014 19:36

In a shop I mean. Where I can test it

OP posts:
Ihateparties · 07/05/2014 20:22

No, sadly not. There is no uk distributor (I asked them recently as I was trying to find a bumper bar), I assume they also don't meet the uk fire retardancy standards either.

OneAprilDay · 08/05/2014 00:08

Macocious can I ask about the width of the Evo Mini? You said it is wider than the 48cm stated - is it the back wheel width you are measuring?

Macocious · 08/05/2014 03:03

OneAprilDay yes it was the back wheel width. I assumed I should measure the widest bit. Is that not how it should be done?

OP posts:
Ihateparties · 08/05/2014 12:25

I think the 48cm is without wheels. It's very misleading as a lot of online sources give that measurement.

Macocious · 08/05/2014 13:26

Maybe I'll just use it without the wheels Grin

Has anyone ever heard of valco? A couple of their pushchairs the snap and the zee look good. Another brand that doesn't seem to be available here though

OP posts:
Ihateparties · 08/05/2014 18:47

The red kite zumi is the valco snap re branded :-D

Ihateparties · 08/05/2014 18:47

The zee is supposed to be amazing to push...

charlyn · 10/05/2014 08:54

Have you thought about a Nuna Pepp?

Ihateparties · 10/05/2014 09:31

That's a good idea, I never remember the pepp.

Tiggywunkle · 12/05/2014 17:41

LOL you can't get a much smaller fold without buying a YoYo or similar tiny folding pushchair. Maybe you just need a YoYo. Isn't the Pepp quite wide or is that perceptional.
I love the Emotion Xtreet too...lovely pushchair but the seat was too reclined for my two. I have seen once since which is more upright, so I have wondered if the design has changed.
