Ordered a pushchair - have I made a mistake?!

Hi

I've just ordered a Graco Evo mini for my 8 month old to replace my cumbersome travel system. I love the lightness and large basket of the Evo mini but am a bit torn as to whether I will regret my decision. I really want to be sure before I use it outdoors for the first time in case I want to return it.

Is there any pushchair I haven't considered? I want lightweight (7kg or so), decent basket, easy to push. Small enough to take on holiday abroad. Ideally I would love a parent facing option but I don't think this exists? If it did this would probably make the choice for me!

Thanks

I think it's inbetween, I want to say 54 or 55cm but I could be wrong. I'm in a constant battle with myself over replacing my emotion with a new one :-/

I don't need the fold to be super small but would like a narrower pushchair for ease of maneuverability. I've ordered a red kite zumi to have a look at it. Shame it doesn't seem to be stocked in any stores

Macocious, I'd be interested in what you thought of the zumi, as I'm toying with the idea of getting the EVO mini. I have seen it in the shops a while ago but can't really remember what the seat is like. I'm after something quite upright as our current one isn't. Is it upright? Thanks.

simplynails I've still got the evo mini do will try to post a side by side comparison when the zumi gets here

Thanks. I've been reluctant to change but the Bjcm versa is just so heavy and my dd doesn't particularly like getting in it anymore. She's 18 months. I bought a maclaren techno xt but didn't get on with it. Tried the armadillo in the shop but the seat was still too reclined.

I got the zumi today and decided to keep the evo mini. I stillwhich it isn't perfect but I need to accept perfect doesn't exist!

So from my comparison:
Width evo mini 57cm, zumi 52cm
Both a similar height but the zumi handlebar was a bit higher. The zumi handlebar is more of a flattened shape which I find less comfortable to hold.
The evo mini seat is more padded and very upright in my opinion. No adjustable foot rest though.
The zumi has an adjustable footrest. The back looks a tiny bit less upright than the evo mini.
The zumi hood is much bigger and has nice features like a peekaboo window (velcro fastening) and air vent at the back when reclined.

The evo mini is easier to fold and unfold.
The zumi brake was a bit stiff to activate.
Not sure if the lack of bumper bar on the evo mini will be a problem.

Overall the zumi just looks a bit cheap which I found a bit off putting. Also it manages to look bigger even though it's smaller. Really didn't like the stiffness of the brake although I did like the features of the hood.

Sounds fair, it is cheap looking. Also cheap though Grin
I haven't had the brake issue but it's possible I hardly ever use my break (oops). The fold is also easy for me but I suppose that's sometimes something you get used to.. Or possibly different pushchairs vary a bit, my city mini gt was awkward to fold, which isn't universal. You can get the back very upright with a little work but meh, the fabrics are naff and there isn't much padding. Oddly it's the see through nature of them that I have more of a problem with. The seat is massive, which could go some way to explaining why it looks bigger than it is. The wheels are also larger than any other pushchair of this size and weight that I could find.

I actually saw a valco snap the other day stalked it through a shop when I realised what it was and I had expected it to have an appearance of increased quality over the zumi. It didn't, which is a bit odd.

The zumi is definitely good for the price. It's got more features than the evo mini which is very basic. I only paid £130 for the evo mini though so not too bad.
Ihateparties you should go into pushchair design!

Thanks for posting your opinion but it seems to have made me more confused about what I want lol.
What are the wheels like on each? Would the zumi be smoother on rougher ground? Think I've been a bit spoilt with the versa but I'm getting stressed with the weight.

Ihateparties · 15/05/2014 23:34

The evo mini is good for that price, I'm less on board at the 180 odd it was in the beginning.

It's very hard to get a small pushchair that feels anywhere near as nice as a bigger system without spending a lot or compromising on some features you would have in an ideal world. That's where the babyhome emotion comes in for me, but with a fairly relaxed seat position your dc have to be happy to sit upright themselves and bring the backrest with them or escape the shoulder part of the harness like mine do or be happy to sit not bolt upright.

Macocious can I ask where you bought the zumi from, was it amazon? Just that I'm tempted to have a look at it IRL but don't want a problem returning it. Precious little ones have it for sale but I dont quite get their returns policy for big items. Thanks.

Macocious · 16/05/2014 18:04

I bought it from mothercare. There's £10 off if you use their mobile app for the first time. They said the courier would collect for free or I could return it to a store. A lot of other websites seemed to have really confusing returns policies!

simplynails · 16/05/2014 20:26

Thanks for that. Will check mothercare out.

Ihateparties · 16/05/2014 22:26

If boots do it they have store returns too.
