Anyone ever used one they look so fancy and big

Totally impractical as they don't fit on public transport, through shop doorways/aisles or in the average car. They do look impressive though.

broodyhen2014 · 09/04/2014 17:47

I dont use public transport i walk everywhere or OH drives me places

OP posts:
broodyhen2014 · 09/04/2014 17:49

I was looking at them for that reason as i do all my shopping online and just do lots of walking

guineapig2014 · 09/04/2014 17:57

Quite impracticable if you use public transport but in your circumstances which are similar to mine it would be ok. I managed but I didn't use it very often because a smaller buggy was so much easier to push around (title is quite heavy to push.) HTH!

WhatsTheWordHummingbird · 09/04/2014 18:00

I sort of see them as celebrity cheesy free promo gifts from pram companies tbh. Tamara Ecclestone, Lilly Allen etc all received them from Silver Cross and, well, there is a reason Silver Cross also do modern, practical alternatives!

broodyhen2014 · 09/04/2014 19:03

I know i nearly threw up when i saw what tamara ecclestone had done to that pram i was thinking more a royale or wilson pram the marmets look good too

I loved my old silver cross and so did my babies, went round the supermarket quite happily we walked everywhere with a dog

VelvetStrider · 09/04/2014 20:16

I tried one out in a shop once. I pulled it up a step and the baby mannequin inside shot out the far side of the pram and onto the hard floor! It had no straps at all. Needless to say I didn't buy one!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 09/04/2014 20:33

One of the babies I was a nanny for had one to sleep in, in the garden.

Also, her granny had one at her house which we used when we went to stay. I loved it Smile

threepiecesuite · 09/04/2014 20:37

The childminder who lived in our street growing up had one, and was often seen pushing about 4 babies in it, with several more pre schoolers hanging off and various coats and lunchboxes piled up in the tray underneath as well as the week's shopping. Great sight!

NomDeClavier · 09/04/2014 20:37

Have one. Love it!

You get stopped by old ladies but you can fit a week of shopping under it. You do need to get and attach a harness to the D rings under the mattress. It will fit on a bus if you go in the back and fold the handle up.

ThePortlyPinUp · 09/04/2014 20:41

I had one for DD1 and DD2 and loved it, I lived in a rural area with lots of walking, could get it on the buses as they weren't busy during the day and could perch dd1 on the end when she got tired as a toddler. It was the best £15 I ever spent. My DN will be riding about in style in hers this summer, I can't wait to push her about in it at a rockabilly weekender we are going to.

broodyhen2014 · 09/04/2014 20:42

i didnt know they had folding handles nomdeclavier Confused

Seriously how do you fit one on a bus ? when i saw coachbuilt i mean big solid thing about 70cm wide with 24" back wheels and 18" front wheels Confused buses round my end get narrower the further back you go because of the row of seat along the back and the big step to get up onto the seats

OP posts:
ThePortlyPinUp · 09/04/2014 20:52

Ours are only the smaller low buses so could tuck in behind the driver, buses would only go to our village and stop maybe once in town so once on I wouldn't have to move it until I got off.

NomDeClavier · 09/04/2014 21:31

Ours have double doors half way down with a big space. I just go in them. You'd be amazed what allowances people make for the mammoth.

My wheels are big but the same size. It's a silver cross Super Tenby.

NomDeClavier · 09/04/2014 21:38

On the width note it's as wide as my BJCM, just no swivel wheels to make it easy to drive....

broodyhen2014 · 09/04/2014 21:44

A Tenby is a foldable version of the coach built prams though isn't it never heard of a Super Tenby. i'm wanting more of a balmoral or pastorale sized pram without the fold function much much bigger and grander than the folding versions i always thought the carriage's on them were too shallow like previous poster said a baby could fall out of one IMO or dangle over the edge if they had a harness on they look scary to me and not much head space with them hood up either i've only seen them with the hoods down for older children

I got this beauty on eBay for my pfb when we're out in the garden - he loves it! He had his longest ever daytime nap in it - he NEVER naps during the day!

If we lived in a town then I'd use it everyday, but have to leave the baby at home if I had to put it in the car!

It had served 2 generations of the family that I bought it from and will be in use in my family for years to come..... Can't say the same thing about my Quinny!

My mum has 4 coach built Silver Cross prams (she's a bit obsessed!)

The 3 Kensington prams detach from the wheel base and the base collapses down. They go in a normal, big car boot.

The Balmoral pram is bigger and all one piece - it doesn't collapse down.

If you have space, no stairs to negotiate and walk everywhere then they are amazing to push and ace for the baby. It's not true that you can't get into shops, etc as places have to be wheelchair accessible and the pram is not as wide as a chair.

We use them whenever we go back home and the baby sleeps brilliantly in them. They are also much admired.

Main tip I have is check out eBay though as you can get them at a fraction of the cost.

broodyhen2014 · 09/04/2014 21:59

wish you could still buy them brand new all you can buy brand new now is kensingtons and balmoral's and there so expensive ive seen lots on ebay i like already :) slongette i love that pram

SJBean · 09/04/2014 22:02

I have one! I had the Kensington silver cross for dd1 and dd2 and have just ebay'd it and bought a balmoral (the bigger non collapsible version) for dc3 due in June. They are amazing prams and my babies have slept so well in them inside and in the garden. I use mine as a bit if a daytime cot and playpen when they can sit up (with reins on). You do get stopped all the time but it is lovely to hear everyone's stories about the pram they used to have that it reminds them of. I always say you don't push a pram for very long and this is certainly a memorable one to push! (Btw we do have a smaller modern pram for the car etc)

Slongette · 09/04/2014 22:05

broodyhen2014 eBay is the way forward!

I have had many people admire my new/old pram..... I love her!

broodyhen2014 · 09/04/2014 23:47

Does annoy me though the amount of old women that hoard the coach built pram's and take them to convention's with plastic dolls inside wtf's that about shouldn't there family's be getting them mentally assessed of something a baby could be making good use of a perfect immaculate pram while there messing around with it ffs Confused
