Double pram/buggy for Twins - rearfacing

Franykins · 07/06/2013 12:06

Ok I am going mad!!! We are expecting twins in November and I am trying to get my head round the minefield that is buggies.

I am desperate for a rear facing/forward facing side by side one that can have carrycots or be a pramette (prefer the idea of carrycots) however I just can't find anything I like within a reasonable price Sad

I have posted already about the OBaby Zezu Twin but have been informed that it's not that great Sad

I'm not a fan of the Bugaboo but am now feeling the Donkey is the only one that meets my requirements but it costs the earth.

Feeling very annoyed and that parents of multiplies are having to pay a fortune for a decent pram! Angry

Please can someone answer my prayers and send me in the right direction for one I will love.

How can looking for buggies get you down!

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing out double buggies. Read our double buggy reviews for a list of the best products on the market - as recommended by you.

Hope this helps! Flowers

I had a teutonia team cosmo. Like you I wanted ds2 to have the carrycot as I used it so much on my single for Ds1 and for them to be able to parent face. it is very big but lovely and comfortable for the kids. I can try and find out the name of the website if you like? Congratulations on your twins

I have the donkey for the DTs and it's been fantastic.
Used it as a single initially with both in one carrycot, (plus a sling for the Velcro one!).
Carrycots detach easily and carry handle is great for getting twins to places where buggies must be left outside.
Have just changed to pushchair seats as they hate not being able to see out and squall miserably when stuck in the cots. Has made getting out and about with twins much easier. DD (3.7) can fit in the seat if she's tired and, despite the huge disparity in weight, it doesn't feel lopsided to push.

I walk a lot and do not need to collapse it to fit in the hall/car boot. It would get annoying otherwise.
It copes with muddy dog walks, London public transport and fiddly shops. The only doorway I've not been able to get through is one side of the double doors at DD's nursery.

Worth it if you can stretch. You can use the carrycots as bassinets quite easily so maybe a saving there?

Congratulations btw, Being a mother of multiples is the most wonderful rollercoaster. You're about to have the most exhilarating year of your life!

There is a new nipper double coming out soon. It should be carrycot compatible ( not sure if hard or soft ones but parent facing). Nipper v3 I think. The ones in brighter colours.

forevergreek · 09/06/2013 18:07

Found this:

With its independently reclining seats the Nipper 360 Double V3 is capable of comfortably seating two children of different ages or sizes. At a slimline 72cms wide the Nipper 360 Double fits through all standard doorways and weighing only 12.8kg, is one of the lightest double buggies in the market today. New for 2013, the Nipper V3 Double will later in the year be able to take a carrycot on one or both sides. Adaptor due August time for this feature.

Franykins · 10/06/2013 13:50

Wow thanks everyone. Lots to think about still. Will have a look at the new Nipper 360, thanks forevergreek

Arseface sound sgood but they look really low down or is that just me? Also really not sure we can stretch to the price as we also have to get a new 7 seater car to get us all in (DP has 2 sons from previous relationship that we have week on week off)

On a very exciting note we heard their heartbeats for the first time this morning!!!!!!!

Franykins · 11/06/2013 11:10

First wheels make one.

pypsik · 13/06/2013 14:08

Have you considered the iCandy Pear Tandem?

Good Luck

Yonilovesboni · 13/06/2013 14:10

First wheels x

madwomanacrosstheroad · 13/06/2013 14:20

Have you looked at emmaljunga? They are very sturdy, seats are a good size and good suspension. You can get one 2nd hand and buy a buggy later.

Franykins · 13/06/2013 14:25

Thanks for the replies.

I haven't been able to look at any in 'real life' yet just online which isn't helping me. However, DP has taken a Friday off work to we can go to our nearest Kiddicare (2hrs away) and try out what they have Smile this has made me feel a lot better.

I have been jotting down the names of the ones mentioned that I like the look of. I am aware Kiddiecare won't have all of them but will have to wait and see what they do have.

I'm hoping I actually like the Obaby Zezu which was the original one I found as it is a decent price, is a pramette and rear ward and forward facing so would cover what I'm after. Just have to wait and see I guess.

Also what is the difference between the EU safety standards and the UK safety standards?

OP posts:
Tiggywunkle · 13/06/2013 21:14

I think the biggest difference is that UK fabrics have to be fire retardant. We also (at present) label from birth according to the angle of the seat, whereas in the EU they have different criteria. I believe though that we are being brought into line re this though.

Layl77 · 13/06/2013 21:27

First wheels is same as donkey but cheaper. Or emmalunja do parent facing x

Tiggywunkle · 13/06/2013 21:50

There is absolutely no comparison between a First Wheels and a Donkey except that the seats on both can face in either direction, and they both have a foot brake.

Layl77 · 13/06/2013 22:04

Erm it looks very very similar, rear facing, can use carrycots/seats/car seats, can change to forward facing. Size wise much the same. Basket space same. It is a blatant rip off! Although yes the bugaboo is the rolls Royce version some may not have that money.

Tiggywunkle · 14/06/2013 10:18

The First Wheels was out years before the Donkey!! The width, seat size and quality are nothing like the same. The First Wheels is the only double pushchair I haven't taken my children out in because I actually didn't want to push it. I agree that not many people have the budget for a Donkey but there are other options. For example the Twins Freestyle Cool is a much better budget pushchair with two reversible seats IMHO.

Franykins · 14/06/2013 15:38

Just been looking at the Mountain Buggy Duo, you can get a double carry cot/pram for it. I think I like it. Has anyone used one?

OP posts:
chocoreturns · 20/06/2013 19:46

slightly different suggestion, but I used a BJCM with a graco softcot in (only £29 on ebay, new) which gave me a parent facing option until DS2 was 6months. My 3yo DS1 is still very comfy and has lots of room as well. You could get two graco softcots to put in a nipper or a babyjogger which would give you the 'pram' bit without costing the earth.

FWIW my friend had DT's a month before I had DS2 and bought the icandy peach. She has since sold it on and replaced it with a BJCM GT just like mine, because as her twins have grown it is simply so much more practical. She loves it. HTH?

chocoreturns · 20/06/2013 19:48

(the softcots clip in on D rings btw, so they are very secure and practical. You can also unclip them and carry them in the house when your little ones are sleeping. I used to set mine in a moses stand, and used it inside the cot when DS2 was very tiny as well)

Ihateparties · 20/06/2013 21:39

Do you mean the twin carrycot, the doublewide one?

Linguaphile · 23/06/2013 10:38

If money is the main problem with a Donkey, have you thought about looking on Ebay or Gumtree for a used one? We just got a nearly new Donkey for £700, which isn't too bad considering how much they are new! One carrycot hadn't even been taken out of the packaging.

Ours aren't due for about 2 months still, but I'm pretty excited about it--even took it home in double mode on the bus and didn't have a single problem. It's a lot thinner than it looks.

Franykins · 25/06/2013 10:20

I lost this thread.

I had a look at the donkey in john lewis, it might have to be the only option. However we are going to Kiddicare on Friday so will have a play and see what they have.

FreeButtonBee · 25/06/2013 10:25

I have the donkey for my DTs and it is reLly great. V easy to steer, get up kerbs etc. also I live in London so do tons of walking and I think a longer buggy would be dangerous at islands in traffic (you know, those half way pedestrian islands). The car seat adaptor is really useful (the maxi cosy one works for the be safe car seats too) although it is v wide in car seat mode and I have been unable to get into baby changing rooms in some shopping centers like this (but would have been fine in normal carry cot/seat mode).

The rain covers are quite hard to get on and the canopies could do with being a bit bigger as my DTS often get the sun i their eyes but those are minor quibbles.
