Babyzen Yoyo - not sure I like it

Was so excited about this. And yes I did start a similar thread about my BJCM GT which I now adore Blush

Have had a little play, haven't put fabrics on yet but..hmmmm...the handlebar is very high isn't it? I'm only 5'2 but have never had a problem with other high handlebars. This one just seems very high.

Argh, I don't know. Was bought for a very specific reason (16 days on a ship, extremely long and narrow corridors to cabins etc, limited storage space blah blah). Now I think I might be better re-buying a Bee...

This probably isn't very helpful but I bought 4 prams before buying my bee Blush. (Second hand though so not all bad.) The bee beats them all hands down.

Light, incredibly small fold and easy to move. I'm 5'3 and the handles suit me and my 6' DH. My DS looks so comfortable and it's the only pram he's ever slept in.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 04/06/2013 11:56

I've had 3 Bees Blush :o Only sold my last one a month ago. If I'd known about this holiday I'd have kept hold of it :(

Shock

If you're not sure return it!

The concept of 16 days on a ship has just hit home even though you have mentioned this before :-O

GwendolineMaryLacey · 04/06/2013 14:31

I know. And I suffer from severe seasickness :o Stupid or what!

Anyway, I put the fabrics on and it looks better. Hate the handle bar and everything about it but am warming to the rest. It really is tiny folded.

Will probably flog it when we get back. Should still be worth a bit, it's only going outside for one day :)

OP posts:
Ihateparties · 04/06/2013 14:40

It'll still be worth plenty, my local shop said they had sold all of their first allocation already and hadn't necessarily expected to because of the price. The fold is awesome isn't it. Smile

Tiggywunkle · 04/06/2013 22:48

I have to say, I think the YoYo would be better for life aboard ship....but if the handle height is an issue, then you can't resolve that really - and I HAVE to have the right handle height! It would be better for the doorways and corridors and tucking under your table at dinner.

You are mad going away for 16 days when you suffer from severe seasickness - however it might help to know that with me the one bad bout rang true - I was severely sea sick for one cruise and never again! I have been through force 9 gales at sea in a smallish boat since then and never batted an eyelid! Most weird!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 05/06/2013 11:49

That's what I liked about it. You can fold the handle down as if folding and you've got a nice seat for dd2 at a good height. However nice the bee is, you've always got the handle stuck out. I think I'm converted. It's ideal for what we need. The red fabrics are a bit orangey though

You know I really didn't warm to mine straight away. I'd have LOVED it at maybe £150 but it just seemed so basic for the money. And yes the handle is high but I hold it down the sides (I'm 5'2) & I'm getting used to it. Hubby thinks its amazing though and wants me to fold/unfold it in public at every opportunity. He would be in heaven using on a ship where he could show it off multiple times a day. For your purpose I doubt there is anything near as suitable and I doubt I'd want any other buggy in a cabin.

Tiggywunkle · 05/06/2013 14:32

To be honest, the more I use my YoYo, in different situations, the more I appreciate it. Little things like when we needed an extra pushchair, or indeed we didn't, and the YoYo could just unfold from our back, or be folded and popped in a shopping trolley or on our back. Or times where we have been swimming and its been folded and left on the side of the pool, or under our chair at the theatre, or under the table in busy restaurants, or in the footwell of the car when its been full, or on a knee. Yes it is basic - but again, I think I appreciate the simplicity of it now...and that sometimes - the times we use the YoYo, you dont need faffy straps etc. You just want to fling it open, sit the child in and GO! If I am doing longer outings then I take something more substantial.

What a shame about the red fabrics. I have been hankering after a set too!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 05/06/2013 17:04

My DH was pretty impressed with the fold too. It's not even the height of the handle, just the way it sticks straight up like that. If only they had made it adjustable, not too hard as the damn thing folds down anyway.

Hey ho. I agree that I would adore it if it was half the price. Every time I look at it I can see £300 staring back at me!

OP posts:
Tedder · 05/06/2013 19:10

How orangey are the fabrics?? I'm just debating between a black or red fabric set with black frame.

FlamingGallah · 05/06/2013 19:35

This is really reassuring as that's just how I felt about it! It's definitely the most basic buggy I've ever pushed, but the size and fold are amazing. I can hang it on the handlebars of my Peach, and even managed to swueeze it under a BJCM double! When it's in the boot of the car, it's barely there. I'm hoping to put it in an overhead locker on the plane in July, and am on the hunt for a backpack that'll fit it.

DH hasn't even asked how much it was, which is a good sign :)

I've got the blue which is lovely. Why don't you just return the fabric pack?

GwendolineMaryLacey · 06/06/2013 19:05

I would do but it's blue, black or orange red. My bjcm is all black and, I suppose I could get blue :)

OP posts:
WeOnlyPlannedTheFirst · 06/06/2013 22:29

I have the blue and its a lovely vibrant colour. I am very happy with the colour of my YoYo lol.

FlamingGallah · 18/06/2013 03:38

Just wanted to update with the yoyo's first test on public transport- absolutely bloomin amazing! Took it across London yesterday, 2 trains and a tube, and it was soooo useful. It was even light enough that where there weren't lifts, as well as the fold and carry option, I could even lift the whole thing with my LO in it and carry it up/down stairs (probably not recommended and I realise I must have looked like the Incredible Hulk)

So for your holiday Gwendoline I think it'll be brilliant! Have you grown to love it at all? :)

chocolatemartini · 18/06/2013 05:59

I always wondered what it was like to lift with a child in. I do this with my quest all the time, and the yoyo is slightly lighter, but which but do you hold to lift it? Looks like the bit I'd want to hold is the plastic bit with yoyo on it iykwim, and I wondered if it was comfortable to hold or if it digs in to your hands.

I also think it's probably not recommended to lift a pushchair and carry it down stairs, but needs must sometimes no one is there to help and it's the only way

FlamingGallah · 18/06/2013 06:46

Yes I think it was those bits, they're not sharp so it was fine. I kind of had it on one hip, and reached one hand across my LO to grab the other side.

Mind you it was with one of my littlies, not sure I'd fancy it with a 3 year old!

chocolatemartini · 18/06/2013 08:31

Ok that's good to know. I'd have bought one by now but the seat looks kind of slouchy. DS likes a more upright upright position, although apparently he's unusual and most DCs don't care. I know the yoyo back can come forwards if they sit up more but it doesn't support them in that position. I'd love to have a play with one one day. Does anyone know if they're in any shops in London? I actually rate my quest quite highly for this kind of lightweight travel pushchair, and it has a calf rest too, which the yoyo doesn't, but I hate that it doesn't have suspension. Feel like I'm going to brain damage my DS every time I use it with all the vibrations.

FlamingGallah · 18/06/2013 09:52

I tried one in Huggle in London, a posh baby shop near Swiss Cottage. I think Peppermint London had one in one of their branches too. Definitely ring before you set off anywhere to check!

Have also seen a couple on eBay/ gumtree though they're not much cheaper than new

Even the yoyo is a much bumpier ride than I'm used to, but I'm loving its size and weight, and I think they are v eye catching (shallow)

So good I posted it twice :)

Bloomin sausage fingers

chocolatemartini · 18/06/2013 13:21

I'll phone peppermint we have one near us. Yes I've seen a couple of yoyos on eBay going for around £285. I guess small wheels always= bumpy ride. The bee's prob the smoothest for a small wheeled 'lightweight' it's just not light enough to make it a good second pushchair for us.

Will find out where I can play with a yoyo now...Smile

Tiggywunkle · 20/06/2013 22:05

The Yoyo isnt a bad ride at all TBH! I have had bigger wheeled pushchairs which are much worse. Go and play with one!

FlamingGallah · 20/06/2013 22:23

I'm officially in love with mine Tiggy! It has been utterly amazing this week in London. It fits through the normal tube barriers, you can lift it, it's so light and nippy. I feel really disloyal for not having loved it at first sight!

Tiggywunkle · 20/06/2013 22:31

Yay! Can I sell anyone else a fabulous Yoyo??? (I should be on commission really Hmm)
Shhhh.....I have to confess though that the YoYo has been replaced by the fabulous Oyster Gem. I love it SO much!
