Hi, currently have an icandy peach, bought with the intention of us having a second dc with a small age gap and just adding the extra seat at a later date. Loved it up until now when my ds (only 17 months) is clearly getting too big for it. His feet are hanging over the edge!! He is a big boy but I as you can imagine I'm quite annoyed about it. We are currently ttc now but even if I fall Preg quickly, ds is likely to be at least a year older and
there's no way he will fit in it then.
Anyway, thinking of selling it on eBay and buying a phil and teds second hand but have looked at the site and there are a couple of things that aren't clear.

  1. Can they be just used as a single? If so do I need to buy a certain model or do they all adapt to singles?
  2. Would anyone recommend any model in particular?
  3. If I was to buy one second hand and its advertised as 'double kit', does that mean that will include everything I need to make it in to a double when the time comes?
  4. How does it actually work for a newborn and toddler?
  5. Can I attach a maxi cosi to it or will I need to eventually buy another car seat?

Thanks in advance, considered buying a cheap buggy for ds but am sick of wasting money on prams so want to get something I don't have to change again!!

Yes most models that have a double kit can be used as singles. Go and have a look at some current models in store then look at buying secondhand.

I know the car seat can be used with explorer and navigator but not 100% on any other models.

Hi we have a Phil and ted -a sport I think. Ours can definitely be used fine as a single - I think they all do. The extra seat can clip on the front (with the main seat then lying flat so that newborn can go flat in it), or on the back so the smaller child can go in it once they can sit up. I find ours very easy to use.

We bought it specifically as DS (who had just turned 2 when DD was born) is something of a giant and we couldn't find many other pushchairs that would carry a child over 15kg whereas p&t is fine beyond that weight.

Bearandcub · 30/11/2012 09:10

For a newborn the front seat reclines fully and the back seat (double) sits on top obv. not touching baby.

Trazzletoes · 30/11/2012 09:11

Sorry we have the explorer, not sport. I couldn't really tell any difference between the different models and just bought what we could find on offer.

RugBugs · 30/11/2012 09:26

The navigator and dot are the ones in stores atm but they are fairly new models so I doubt there'd be any second hand yet.
Next oldest is the explorer, then the sport.

I have an explorer and use it in single mode. If I could justify it I would upgrade to the navigator - a few small irritations that have been fixed for the navigator. Having said that I really don't much like the new fabrics, my huge follow the sun hood is genius

We got a Phil & Ted sport. I chopped my finger off in the hinge and had to have plastic surgery to reattach it.

Make sure it's a modern P&T (post 2011 I think)

Other than that, and it being ridiculously heavy , it was great for our son. But I'd never buy another Hmm

sleeplessinsuburbia · 30/11/2012 09:46

henrietta same here!!! After my finger incident I wouldn't sell it as I felt it could hurt someone and eventually gave it to someone who could keep it up permanently.

It was ridiculously heavy and expensive.

HenriettaChicken · 30/11/2012 11:06

Oh my goodness, suburbia! Hurts like buggery, doesn't it? Off to my soft tissue appointment and physio session in a bit...

At least it wasn't my son's fingers...

sleeplessinsuburbia · 30/11/2012 11:52

Mine wasn't as bad as yours, no surgery just about 6 months to heal!
That's why I couldn't sell it, would hate to think a child hurt themselves on a pram I knew was dodgy.

The only good thing I remember was the basket under was good for shopping if the seat wasn't reclined. If it was it sucked!

I love my phil and teds vibe . I picked up an E3 cheaply but it drove me mad and the vibe is soooo much better! I love the buggy as a single, the brake on the handle bar is great. It even folds with the doubles kit attached on the front or back.

Olympicrock · 30/11/2012 12:30

Just re read your questions, you get adapters to add the car seay, although I haven't done this so no idea how good it is!

Tiggywunkle · 30/11/2012 22:17

Honestly, dont give up on your Peach yet....a Phil&Teds can't compete for handling, child comfort etc. There are stages where you scratch your head and have to make serious compromises, plus they are heavy to lift and to push, have no storage space and more...

Can I try to persuade you to keep one of the best pushchairs I have owned - and believe me I have had a lot!!

I STUPIDLY came to the same conclusion as you did about the Peach that my eldest would outgrow the Peach. I used it as a single and loved it but I sold it too soon thinking it would never last, bought something different and lived to regret it. Thankfully I had the opportunity to get a Peach Blossom 2 - which will offer your eldest loads of room to grow in the lower seat once the baby comes out of the carrycot. I am so glad because it was superb.
http://www.bestbuggy.co.uk/2012/06/icandy-peach-growing-with-your-child/ This might help because the first photos are at 19th months and it shows how one tall child changed and grew into the Peach rather than outgrowing it!!

Just to check, is your Peach set up correctly? Is the footrest pointing to the floor? Is the hood raised up to the top? Is the liner still in? Bear in mind that children grow rapidly in the first two years and then slow down / change how they grow. The photos above should give you some idea of how your child will grow. On all these photos, other than the last ones, the liner was still in the seat.

I hope this helps. If you do decide to swap, DO consider a Babystyle Oyster Max because it too is excellent! Forget the P&T's :)
