Making newborn snuggly

crazypaving · 25/08/2012 15:32

I have a BJCM for days when I'm alone with my newborn, due Oct, and a Mountain Buggy Duet for when I have my older DS with us. I know they both lie pretty flattish, and say suitable from newborn, but I'd like to get something to make it snuggly for DC2 when he's really little. Any suggestions? I'd like to keep it below £30 if poss!

Ha! I said "he" for DC2. Don't actually know that, hmm, subconscious telling me something?!

Sheepskin. I had a mamas and papas one to line the carry cot and buggy, you can get a good one 2nd hand off ebay. I also had one of these for the car seat which you could use in a buggy.

thank you, those are all great ideas. Think I might have a trawl on ebay... Just looks to me like the straps on the buggy are so big compared to a wee newborn. Do you think it's worth buying the carseat converters (does the BJCM take a maxicosi? I can't figure it out)

The Baby Jogger takes Maxi Cosi Cabriofix and Pebble infant carseats (with the adaptors you mentioned). It's recommended that you don't leave a baby in a carseat for more than 2 hours though, as they don't lie flat in them. You can get carrycots for the BJCM and Mountain Bugy Duet as well. They cost more than £30 though Wink

Yeah, the carrycots are a bit (!) over budget, hence looking for more creative solutions! Finding it tricky to figure out what life will look like once DC2 arrives (in terms of being out & about), hence wanting to plan a bit, spend not too much, and not buy more than we need.

PnT cocoon?

Valium, any idea if there's an easy way to anchor it securely into non-P&T pushchairs?

Maybe the straps of the duet would go around it? How about going into a shop that stocks both pushchairs and have a play. The Cocoon has handles that could be tied to the D ring? I have rings on my Mountain Buggy Double Terrain. DC3 not due until Oct.

I was in exactly the same position last winter with my October born DC2, except I had a P&T Sport rather than a Mountain Buggy. I used my P&T Cocoon in the BJCM and it fitted perfectly (there are even D rings on the BJCM which line up with velcro straps on the Cocoon, but these are nto strictly necessary). Extremely handy bit of kit for transporting baby around for the least amount of fuss. It was great for leaving the P&T outside nursery when I dropped DS off and carrying the baby in without waking her up. Was planning on Ebaying it this autumn if you're interested.... Wink

Keep an eye out for the bassinet on eBay as you have a bit of time and may pick up a bargain. The PnT is unlikely to last more than a few months.

I'll pass your thanks on to DH who noticed it valium - I was too addled to even know which end of the baby was which.

I used the Cocoon for DD until she was 5 months old, which got us out of the worst of the winter. She's tall (91st centile) too.

It is usually the bum that results in outgrowing with mine. Mixture of genetics and cloth. Good to know though bike as I have heard mixed reviews about the longevity of the Cocoon and I am hoping it will see him through to warmer weather (Scotland=hopeful)

trying to figure out what you mean about attaching the cocoon. Is the D-ring the crotch strap or something else?

I've been looking at carrycots on eBay and the mountain buggy ones go for a minimum of about £80 Confused Worried it'll be a big outlay for something we may not use that much, but then maybe we will?! argh.

The bugaboo thing looks like a good idea, but then I like the P&T cocoon having handles... My hormone-addled baby brain isn't coping well with this.

I personally would not trust handles on anything that a baby will be in. On my pushchair there is a little metal D shaped ring by the bit where the waist strap is in the seam of the chair fabric, so next to their bum.

Look out for local pick up and you may get a better price. Unlikely though tbh as they are new and swanky still.

The mothercare one linked to above may well be just right for your needs as it looks as if they still get strapped in with it.

Do not let this stress you. Your baby will be fine even if you just opt for a snow suit and blankets. In a lie flat position, with the sun cover over they will be pretty protected from the elements, and they are quite hardy little things.

Consider sell on value too. You would get more if it included the bassinet.

There are D rings in the side seams of the BJCM seat. There are wee Velcro loops on the base of the P&T Cocoon. If you put the Cocoon in the BJCM, baby's head towards you, then the D rings and loops line up and you can attach the Cocoon to the pushchair, although there is really no need.

The Cocoon handles are very strong, never felt at all insecure with them. I used to carry DD around in the Cocoon like a sports bag.

Ah, thank you!! Makes sense. That's quite nifty. Hmm, I wonder which would last longer - the bugaboo one or the P&T? If DS is anything to go by, DC2 will be a pretty long baby (91st centile+)

I never noticed velcro on my P&T cocoon! I just had it wedged into the P&T with the seat laid flat as there was a flap at the head end and the seat unit went up at the other end. I had a small carry cot (icandy) for dc2 and they are very worth it when you're running around after an older child. I have big babies and used the P&T cocoon till very nearly 6months (he was a bit squished in it by then!)

I have a mothercare soft shell carrycot. It fits, and clips on to the D rings as described above. It has a harness as well..
DD is 3 weeks old and seems very cosy!

Does anyone know how wide the cocoon is?

I have a mountain buggy duet which has seats that are 11 inch wide. Would a cocoon fit in?

The sport Cocoon would fit a 11in seat as it is squidgy and the solid base bit is 10.5in. The sport fits the explorer too so I am guessing they are the same size.
