New Quinny Moodd v Used Quinnt Buzz.

Ok, I've narrowed down my travel system to quinny; mainly because I think they are built well and also because I already have a Zapp and a Pebble Maxi Cosi car seat.

There is no doubt the Moodd is the less 'niggly' pushchair of the 2 and to me is practically flawless, but it's RRP is £600 ish.

A Buzz has slightly more niggles but I can pick up a used, less than 2 year old one for £100 ish.

Is the lack of niggles really worth the extra £500? My DP thinks yes Hmm I think no! Blush

We could afford the Moodd as we are financially in a good position, but I like to get good value for money!

If you feel it is flawless then buy the Moodd. Niggles will only get bigger across time and if DP is on the side of the Moodd then go for it ;)

I loathed my quinny buzz - it was awful... admittedly it was old, well used etc but I think that's what you are suggesting you might get it 2nd hand too?

Only used it with the pram part and admittedly that was nice and roomy and I particularly liked dd to be lying totally flat, car seat did fit in and used it sometimes, had long abandoned entire thing by the time she would have been at the seat age.

Also had a friend that had one a few years previously and she detested it too.

It was a pain in butt with the prong like 3rd wheel and it seemed to get stuck frequently, possibly as it was used but I spent half the time booting it and cursing!

Sorry to sound so negative but as you asked! I think if I had my time again I wouldn't put up with the niggles I did for the sake of good value.

Can you not pick up a decent 2nd hand moodd if you set on getting a quinny?

JarethTheGoblinKing · 08/06/2012 11:42

The Quinny Buzz is a horrible pushchair, I hated ours! As wide as our front door, hard to get round shops, front wheel would stick all the time and wouldn't steer in Waitrose Hmm Grin

I was bearable until DS went into the proper seat and then it was very front heavy. Shopping basket (which you had to buy separately) was tiny and uselsss.. and it creaked all the time. It was CRAP.

I've not seen the Moodd yet, but it's it essentially a newer shinier version of the buzz?

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 08/06/2012 13:32

HappyJoyful it's not negative, it's great to hear other peoples experiences. The buzz I would get second hand would be the 2012 one, so the wheel shouldn't stick. This was a design flaw in the earlier models apparently? I think the things I will hate about it are the way it reclines and the way you have to fold from the front/side.

JarethTheGoblinKing the width is the thing putting me off as the moodd is just as wide, it will fit easily through the front door though. I'm thinking around shops I would use my Quinny Zapp. The baskets are naff in both, I hate baskets full stop on buggies so that's not really a big deal for me.

The Moodd is a mix of buzz and another model I've forgotten the name of; basically the seat is nicer, the fold is easier, recline simpler, raincover much smaller, back is higher, sunshade is spf. But it's still a beast!

It is VERY wide. I've had a double buggy which was easier to get out the front door. It's weird doing down kerbs too - the front wheel (which sticks all other times) gets knocked sideways and you get up almost tipping your child into the road. Confused

Go to Mothercare and try and wheel the Buzz/Moodd around the shop and try not to get the massive wheels stuck on random POS around the shop. Most likely you'll knock over a huge ELC display of plastic dinosaurs or something Grin.
WHSmith is the worst - big displays of books on the end of aisles just waiting for the massive wheels to knock them over.

Have you looked at the Oyster one? Everybody I know has one of those and they seem brilliant.

Tiggywunkle · 08/06/2012 22:29

The Moodd seat is similar to the Mura seat. I don't like the lack of calf / ankle support on the Buzz and Moodd. My son is in between the baby and footrest stage and I don't like seeing his ankles dropping when he's reclined.

TribbleWithoutACause · 10/06/2012 15:11

Steer well clear of a Quinny, they're huge ugly things. I had a buzz with ds and it lasted three months before I got a.city mini.

Seriously, I nearly cried at how easy the city mini was compared to the buzz.

There is no storage space on it, your changing bag will constantly be knocking against the wheels and the fold is so big.

Have you looked at the baby jogger versa? Honestly it will be a lot easier and economical, plus it folds in one piece whichever way baby is facing. Also you'll find yourselves getting stuck in door ways, it has no stability either even though it has such a wide base.

Honestly, Quinnys aren't built well and they don't last IME. Go with a baby jogger, mountain buggy or icandy if you want something that will last.

TribbleWithoutACause, never looked at baby jogger buggies, they are really similar!

Can you stick a car seat on them though?

Yes you can, you can pop them on with a car seat adapter.

I've seen the city mini with them on and a quick google shows you can buy them on various pram sites.

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 10/06/2012 20:11

Just been exploring TribbleWithoutACause, it is 3kg lighter and 10cm narrower in the frame, plus probably cheaper, only weird thing, when open, it's 10cm longer than the moodd!? But you can use it with Maxi Cosi car seats so I will still be able to use my Zapp if needed.

I've had my zapp since 2008 and used it every day and it's still going strong, hence the reason I think/thought Quinny were a good brand. Looking at warranties the moodd has a 2 year warranty and the Versa has a lifetime warranty on the frame and a 1 year warranty on the fabric.

If I'm going to be spending quite so many [ennies I really want this buggy to last 2 children; am I mad expecting that? The versa isn't out till July-ish in the USA with no confirmed dates for when it will hit the UK. I'm not due until end of Sep so hopefully will be here by then so I can have a look.

Thanks TribbleWithoutACause for replying and letting me know about them.

I had a Buzz for my DD from newborn until 18 months. I then sold it as I did find it heavy as she grew. It's true that it's wide but in general I found it a very good pushchair. It was comfy for my DD who loved falling asleep in the carrycot and the seat unit. And I had no issue with the quality, I found it very well built. I now have a Zapp which I also love...but most people on here don't like them either. I'm now expecting DC 2 and kind of wish I still had the Buzz for the first few months. But Quinnys do get slated on MN!

TribbleWithoutACause · 10/06/2012 21:37

Honestly I really think it depends on what you want, pushchairs are a very personal choice. The vast majority of people I know have hated their Quinnys. I just had so much trouble with it that it's put me off them for life.

My city mini is a year and a bit old and I've had no issues with it, baby jogger have fabulous customer service. They replaced a wheel for me that went wrong with no problem at all.

.

Honestly, if you can get yourself to a John Lewis with a child and a fully packed changing bag I'd suggest loading up the display model and having a walk round the shop. Also try getting one in the boot of your car as well. I think the thing that sold me on the baby joggers is the one handed fold.

When DS is kicking off, I can both hold him and fold the pushchair. I couldn't have done that with my Quinny.

BikeRunSki · 10/06/2012 21:47

I hated my Buzz too. It was big, wide, heavy, niggly, wobbly, not robust enough to go off road, but not small enough to be nippy about town. I was delighted when it gave up the ghost when DS was 6 months old.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 11/06/2012 21:49

Another thumbs down for the buzz!
It's heavy, wide, ridiculous basket, a bastard to fold (and frankly dangerous if it decides to spring open again with your finger in the way) the seat is too small for a child over about 18 months, and once they get to that size it's a swine to steer. I love how they look but they are not very practical. Hopeless on anything other than pavement too.
Mood is just a more expensive version of the buzz really.
There are quite a lot of Tavel systems which will take a maxi cosi with adapters, if you aren't that fussed about second hand, you could do a lot worse than a bugaboo frog, lie flat carrycot, a dream to push , big basket and 5kg lighter than the buzz. Also carry cot folds flat. I've had a 3 yo in one and it still pushes with one hand, you can't do that with a newbOr. In with the buzz

sammysamsam · 12/06/2012 00:09

uh-oh, im joining the anti-buzz brigade. it was the first bugggy i bought for dd2 and got rid within 6months..exact reason higlighted above- way too wide, bulky, awful prong like front wheel, disasterous to get in/out of boot...oh, the joy! I settled for a bjcm and have NEVER looked back!...err.. don't do it, don't fall for a buzz!

Tiggywunkle · 12/06/2012 00:18

Ditto, ditto, ditto, ditto plus mine opens in the boot of the car on its own and whenever I lift it up....
