Pushchairs
Please help with these pushchair requirements...
saoirse86 · 21/11/2011 21:20
My SIL's are having a boy due early April and have asked for advice about pushchairs.
The needs are:
Parent facing (till at least 6 months)
Smallish one hand fold for going on the bus (they do have one car which I'm pretty sure is a Renault Scenic and has a good sized boot)
Able to cope with slightly muddy fields (not particularly rough terrain)
Suitable from birth
The wants are:
Car seat compatible (they might have our britax shr for a while, but might get a 0-4 seat, or might buy a new stage 0 one, not sure yet)
Carrycot rather than just a lie flat seat or seat with a soft carrycot
Light
Suitable until the child no longer needs a pushchair
If there is a car seat compatible that's lie flat for long journeys that would be good too
I think that's about it. They're not sure about budget as it kind of depends on what's right for them but it seems like £250 is probably max. And they're happy to have second hand if they can find a well looked after or nearly new one.
Thanks in advance for your advice that I can pretend is all my advice pass on to them!

Do either of them actually ever get the bus?! Or is it because SiL1 will be at work while SiL2 is at home with the baby?
aswellasyou · 21/11/2011 21:38
And surely you'll spend loads of time together seen as you live so close and have a bus big car.
Anyway, I'm thinking.
saoirse86 · 21/11/2011 21:44
Thanks for your help love! I was going to call her her SILIL but SIL2 had her car written off and they're not going to buy a new one so she'll be at home with they baby and will need to get the bus.
I might not be around much because I might actually be at work sometimes!
What about the BJCVersa? I haven't seen the fold yet, how much it is or when it's out. Do you know?
smileitssunny · 21/11/2011 21:48
I Love my grace travel system. it does everything except lie flat for newborn. Didn't seem to matter much...
aswellasyou · 21/11/2011 21:50
I think the estimation is about September and £450, so out on both counts.
I couldn't remember having ever seen SiLiL's car so assumed she just didn't have one at all. I don't know why you're pretending you'll be at work.
The UppaBaby Vista would be perfect if it wasn't for the price. But then it would be perfect for most people if it wasn't for the price. How wide is the BJ City Classic?
dreamfeeder · 21/11/2011 21:52
Well if they buy the carry cot, whats wring with the BJ City Mini, with carry cot for the first 6 months when they're flat anyway? Apparently the bugaboo cocoon goes in it too, though I guess theat's be not parent facing.
I was dead keen for parent facing, and bought a second hand BebeConfort Loola, hated it,(the wieght the folding etc etc) and exclusively carried DD til she was 9 months and we bought the BJCity Mini. Plus ours new was £175 from John Lewis. (DD 14 months now, so not had it too long).
I love its one hand fold, it's light and manoeverable, The carry cot gives you some parent facing, but I know it might not be enough. I think the one I've seen recommended to fit most of the requirements is the bugaboo chameleon, but think it's a two-pieces fold which wouldn't do for the bus, but not had one myself so not 100% sure...
Sorry, thats it for my lack of wisdom
saoirse86 · 21/11/2011 21:53
Isn't the vista relatively heavy and big folded for a bus? And how much is it vaguely?
A city classic isn't parent facing is it? Or small folded?
smile I've never heard of the grace travel system, have you got a link?
aswellasyou · 21/11/2011 21:53
It's 61cm wide. That could be a possibility assuming you can put one of the carrycots on it.
saoirse86 · 21/11/2011 21:57
dreamfeeder do they do a hard carrycot then for the BJCMini? I must admit my first thought was that one.
aswell (she's my sister) has a bugaboo gecko and I don't think it'd work for them with the 2 piece weird fold.
A colleague had said they could make an offer on his Pliko Switch but I just don't think that's right for them, especially as he's not going to let it go cheap and wants to sell with a Primo Viaggio seat and 2 bases. I had the primo viaggio seat for DD (also 14 months) and hated it.
aswellasyou · 21/11/2011 22:00
The BJCC is pretty small folded. It doesn't actually need to be that small anyway just for folding on the bus. You only said parent facing for 6 months-you can't change the rules now!
I wouldn't want to use the BJCM offroad-the wheels are too small and hard. I suppose the BJCM GT would work but I don't know when it'll be out or how much it'll cost.
The Vista is a bit heavy but it's small folded. It's about £550 but you can sometimes find a 10% off code.
saoirse86 · 21/11/2011 22:01
How much are Bee's second hand? and are they really low? SILIL is quite tall (not sure how tall as everyone seems tall to me )
saoirse86 · 21/11/2011 22:03
I thought everyone says how BJCMinis are quite good at coping with a little bit of off roading.
Is there a hard carrycot for these BJ's then?
aswellasyou · 21/11/2011 22:05
I would definitely stop them getting a Pliko Switch. I think you can get them on eBay for about £70 and it sounds like it'd cost more. And it's like the Pliko Pramette which I didn't really like and was pretty bulky.
The BJCC is 61cm wide.
I want someone to buy the Jané Rider so I can decide if I want one which is really small folded, fairly light, faces both ways, highish seat, one handed fold, adjustable everything and £340 new or about £200 with a carseat on eBay.
What about a Micralite Superlite with carrycot?
thisisyesterday · 21/11/2011 22:07
how about one of the britax models?
the vigour? am sure that would handle slightly muddy fields. it would go with your britax car seat, it's rear-facing and it folds up small
aswellasyou · 21/11/2011 22:08
There are two different BJCM carrycots. Have you seen the wheels?! It felt bumpy on the pavement outside Mothercare!
The Bee's not good offroad either.
saoirse86 · 21/11/2011 22:08
Is the micralite a one hand fold?
What about the B-Mobile or B-Agile? I know they don't fold one handed though.
aswellasyou · 21/11/2011 22:09
Does the Vigour fold with the seat on? I guess it does seen as the B-Smart does I think. That's a very good suggestion!
saoirse86 · 21/11/2011 22:11
I always thought the vigour was similar to the b smart and b dual (in single mode obviously) in terms of size, and they seem far too big for buses to me. Is it different?
thisisyesterday · 21/11/2011 22:11
yeah it does.
i had one for a very short while and i really loved it!
aswellasyou · 21/11/2011 22:11
The Micralite is a one hand fold, but I think it's less easy to unfold.
The B-Agile does fold one handed, but the handle's low and it doesn't do anything the BJCM doesn't.
thisisyesterday · 21/11/2011 22:11
i am googling now though, has it been replaced by the b-smart? is that basically the same thing?
thisisyesterday · 21/11/2011 22:13
wow look b-smart bundle
that seems like quite a good price to me?
