My SIL's are having a boy due early April and have asked for advice about pushchairs.

The needs are:
Parent facing (till at least 6 months)
Smallish one hand fold for going on the bus (they do have one car which I'm pretty sure is a Renault Scenic and has a good sized boot)
Able to cope with slightly muddy fields (not particularly rough terrain)
Suitable from birth

The wants are:
Car seat compatible (they might have our britax shr for a while, but might get a 0-4 seat, or might buy a new stage 0 one, not sure yet)
Carrycot rather than just a lie flat seat or seat with a soft carrycot
Light
Suitable until the child no longer needs a pushchair
If there is a car seat compatible that's lie flat for long journeys that would be good too

I think that's about it. They're not sure about budget as it kind of depends on what's right for them but it seems like £250 is probably max. And they're happy to have second hand if they can find a well looked after or nearly new one.

Thanks in advance for your advice that I can pretend is all my advice pass on to them! Grin

I was about to suggest the Concord Neo. Also the Norton Pure if it's a one part fold and the M&P Joolz.

saoirse86 · 22/11/2011 09:50

This is so much harder than I expected. Confused

The norton pure looks too big folded, the concord neo looks quite big too. The joolz day looks ok and looking at the second hand prices I'm seriously kicking myself I didn't get the ex display one in m&p which was £172!! Angry At that point DP was saying we weren't going to spend that much but we ended up spending a lot more.

So with the city mini, classic or elite can you put a soft carrycot on the seat so it's facing you? And then can you see the baby over the hood?

I've told them that the pliko switch isn't right for them IMO so now I need to find something better!

Surely most things are better than a Pliko Switch! I don't remember ever seeing a Joolz in M&P.

You can put a soft carrycot on pretty much anything. They're all just like the Graco one I used to have I think. I though the compact carrycot could go on with the fabric still attached though.

I think you're focussing too much on the fold though love. I've never seen a folded pushchair on a bus in Birmingham. And noone in their right mind is going to make them hold a little baby while older children are left in their pushchairs.

I really like the M&P Joolz, but I bet the Joolz Day is better. Have you seen the Joolz XL bag you can hang on the back? You could get your whole life inside that bag!

saoirse86 · 22/11/2011 12:56

Yeah I saw it, it's enormous!

So if you don't think the fold is too important, how about our new criteria are:
Parent facing till at least 6 months, preferably older
Not heavy, i'm thinking about 11kg max
Narrow enough to go on the bus (unfolded)
Preferably car seat compatible (ideally with my britax shr)
Ideally comes with a carrycot
Can come with slight off roading

This is starting to sound like my oyster, but I'm not sure if the buckling front wheels would drive them mad quite quickly. Hmm

Apparently they've fixed the wheel problem. You could get them to look after my gorgeous baby niece using the Oyster and see what they think.

Tiggywunkle · 22/11/2011 14:17

B-Agile or B-Smart if you want to use the car seat :) Or the B-Dual if they want to be prepared ;)

aswellasyou · 22/11/2011 14:24

I don't think they'll be having any more after the expense and hearache conceiving this one. I feel like I've seen another company whose pushchairs are compatible with Britax carseats. Mutsy maybe. Confused

Shenanagins · 22/11/2011 16:37

Haven't done too much off-road but have gone across grass and dirt tracks and it's been fine. Also, they have changed the basket underneath which is a lot better - models with the old style of baskets can be replaced with the new style.

aswellasyou · 22/11/2011 17:05

I've just looked up the Norton Pure and M&P Joolz and the Pure doesn't fold in one piece, but the Joolz does.

saoirse86 · 23/11/2011 10:05

I asked the other day whether they'd do this again and sil2 said maybe! Shock I don't think they're ready for a convertible single/double quite yet though! Grin

I've got myself in a right lot of confusion now, I'm going to have to re-read the thread and make a spreadsheet some notes!

OP posts:
Tiggywunkle · 23/11/2011 10:38

Add the Peach to the list then Wink.

Tiggywunkle · 23/11/2011 10:39

They won't notice the single to double option sneak in Wink

saoirse86 · 23/11/2011 10:44

Hehe! Grin

OP posts:
aswellasyou · 23/11/2011 10:48

The Peach would be really good apart from the two piece fold, but I've we've established that's not a big deal.

Shock at SiL2 considering doing it again! does SiL1 know about this?

saoirse86 · 24/11/2011 21:51

Right that's it, I'm making them buy a Mima Xari. You know the chassis is only 61cm wide? I'm surprised! I'm sure they won't mind be trebling their maximum budget! Hmm Grin

OP posts:
aswellasyou · 24/11/2011 21:55

I think SiL1 would do it but not SiL2. We'll work on her! Grin

Just to add, I asked today about how to close the BJCM with the hard carrycot on if you remove the fabric. First of all apparently you don't have to remove the fabric to add either the compact or hard carrycot. But if you want to, you unclip the "Pull" handle fabric piece and re clip it back onto the two hooks again once the fabric is removed.
