3 wheeler all terrain wheels with a 'proper seat' recommendations please

I'm after a 3 wheeler buggy with air tyres, but a proper seat as opposed to a bucket style seat or hammock seat.

I need one that will be cheap 2nd hand (Under £100).
Has anyone got any ideas?

Hope someone can help me start my quest!

have you looked at the jane slalom, loads on ebay

sleepysox · 14/11/2011 15:48

Thanks for the suggestion. I do like the Slaom, I have had a Slalom in the past, but found it didn't last that long height wise. I am hoping to find something with an 18KG weight limit, as DS is 2 and is already 15 KG. He has special needs and can't walk, and so I need an all terrain with a proper seat, so i can fix in a support to convert it into a sn buggy.

The only reason I need one, is that nursery have asked us to provide one, so they can take him on the field with the other kids and to be able to evacuate him in case of a fire.

I was wondering if a teutonia or Quinny XL had a proper seat. I can't tell from the photos I've seen on ebay.

yes teutonias have proper seats, quinny xl i have no idea about, baby jogger elite have huge tall seats and the us weight limit is really high, looked into it for my ds, but it is too wide for my needs [same pushchair as over here, just tested to a higher weight limit in the us]

pramsgalore · 14/11/2011 16:39

the babyjogger elite will take 34 kilos

Tiggywunkle · 14/11/2011 17:27

Is an Elite a 'proper seat' though? Although you could probably put a PE board in the back. If an Elite is an option then there was an Easywalker Sky on EBay for £105 but I would have thought they were both hammock style? I think the Quinny XL has a proper seat. There's the Maxi-Cosi Mura but the seat is a little different so may not suit. How about an iCandy Apple Jogger. I know the pushchair is certified to 15kgs but I bet it's tested different in other countries plus it takes the Pear seats ie the weight of two children although admittedly with different wheels.

Herqules?

blackoutthesun · 14/11/2011 19:08

what about an 'out and about'?

sleepysox · 14/11/2011 19:53

Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate you taking the time to reply.

The Easywalker and BJ have hammock style seats, so aren't suitable as they aren't stable enough. I'll investigate the Quinny, ICandy and teutonia as they seem the best options, especially the Quinny as they have a big maximum weight limit.

We used to have a Mura, but he outgrew the height at 18 months, and so once his head was above the back it no longer supported him.

Off to Google.

Thanks again

Meant to say- will Look at Herqules and Out and About too.

The herqules isn't made any more so you might have to take a punt and buy one on ebay to try it (unless you're near Cumbria in which you're welcome to try mine!) Mine was only £50 inc a hard carrycot. I love mine, but Sleep who's also on here hates hers.

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 14/11/2011 20:22

Mothercare Urban Detour?

They have a seat with a fully adjustable back, its rigid not hammock style, they are built like tanks and mahoosive (have had my 8yo in ours and it didn't even creak, still pushed like a dream), and they are dirt cheap (ours was £30).

Wolfiefan · 14/11/2011 20:32

Not sure what you mean by a proper seat. I bought a quinny speedi when expecting second baby. Copes well with yomping off pavement. Seems sturdy enough.

thisisyesterday · 14/11/2011 21:27

what about the bebe confort high trek (can also parent-face) or the everest?

good make, cheap as chips on ebay

thisisyesterday · 14/11/2011 21:29

this is the high trek

thisisyesterday · 14/11/2011 21:30

actually, that says it's the high trek, but I think it's the everest

thisisyesterday · 14/11/2011 21:33

or here

thisisyesterday · 14/11/2011 21:34

99p
39.99

i shall stop now lol. i just love them and they're such a good price!

sleepysox · 14/11/2011 22:17

I didn't realise the Urban Detour had a rigid seat- I'll add it to my list.
The Bebe Confort looks good and sturdy too- will add that as well.
Thank you so much for the replies.

Thanks for the offer Daisybell, I live in Dorset, so a bit of a trek!

Sleepy, i'm dorset born and bred, where are you?

My dad would be able to give the low down on the herqules if you want (parents still live there) as my dad likes playing with all the wheel mechanisms etc...

codandchipstwice · 15/11/2011 12:41

I've got an urban detour and it is fab but my ds2.11 and 1m tall is almost a whole head higher than the back of the seat, it supports him only to about the bottom of his ears.

The only 3 wheeler I've found that totally takes his head is the phil and ted - and the sport does have the rigid bottom and spines to make the back solid - but not as much as the ud does. out n about would be hopeless as back even shorter than urban detour

Good luck

pramsgalore · 15/11/2011 14:19

the p&t's do have large tall seats but mine slumped in the older p&t's not much support at all.

sleepysox · 15/11/2011 17:41

Daisybell- I'm near Bournemouth! I've looked up herqules on ebay and they still go for quite a bit, so I'm veering towards the Quinny Freestyle or bebe Confort.

The UD needs to be discounted, as DS needs head support, and he's very tall already :(

Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.

I'm going to be selling my herqules. It's a fab pram/buggy just not for me. It won't fit in boot of seven seater so beach walks/off roading now not going to happen so it's now just a school run buggy. Is a little wide for school classroom (have to go in and it's like a rugby scrum) and I need to steer one handed.

The seat however is massive, It's a good comfy ride. Its very well built and sturdy.

MonkeyJuice · 15/11/2011 21:27

Jane slalom pro, fantastic proper seat, lots of support and padding. If you are lucky you might get an older model with handbrake too! I saw a "grass" print one on eBay which was brand new for under £200.

TruthSweet · 16/11/2011 15:01

If you need a proper seat do not be tempted by an EasyLife as they are completely unpadded/structured and are just a (thick) piece of fabric with a zip recline and two buckle/strap things to change recline angle.

I had a Baby Jogger City Mini double when DD2 had arthritis and we ended up getting a chippy friend knock up boards to fit in the back pocket (just for boards not storage) as the seat bowed backwards which hurt DD2's back. Now she s over the arthritis and 'just' has Hypermobility Syndrome the EasyLife is fine but there is no way she would have been comfy in it before.

In between we had a Jazz EaSyS which was fab with brilliant support and did pretty well off road (we took it to the Devil's Punchbowl in Surrey with no problems (except for the stepsHmm). I've got someone interested in trying it out (though might be too small for their child) if they don't want it would you like it? You'd have to come to W.Sussex to pick it up but it comes with a sleeping bag, some kind of lateral supports for the torso, play tray, leg cover and hood.
