I have decided I am getting a new stroller for ds2 who will be 2 in a couple of weeks.

I currently have a very heavy P&T and a 10 year old Maclaren (don't know which but similar to triumph) that has worn wheels, no hood (or raincover) and smells.

It is very hilly where I live so I wanted the lightest pushchair I could find which seems to be the Volo BUT it doesn't recline. So those of you that have had either, is it worth paying an extra £15 for one that reclines a little bit?

These are the ones I am looking at...

Personally would get neither. Does your DS2 sleep in the pram?

Triumph doesn't sit upright and volo has no recline. Get a 2nd hand quest, or new if that is what you want to do.

If your DS2 doesn't sleep then go for the volo, they are so much lighter and a nicer push.

BadRoly · 20/05/2011 21:51

Not very often although that may change in September when dd2 goes to school full time! I do want something light and easy to push, I can use the P&T if I am out for the day and his likely to sleep...

mouseanon · 20/05/2011 21:55

Volo if he won't need to sleep in it. If he is likely to need to sleep then the lack of recline will get annoying. They are the most fantastically light buggy though. I got one years ago for first dc and it's been horribly abused and still going strong. Lack of recline did limit its use though. For a recline the quest is a nicer buggy than the triumph but there's nothing really wrong with the triumph.

5inthebed · 20/05/2011 21:56

What about a Micralite superlite then? Air tyres at back and stroller wheels at front, slight recline.

BadRoly · 20/05/2011 22:00

Well, not in the same league as some of you but this will be pushchair/pram number 9 and it will probably only be in use for another 12-18mths so cost is an issue.

And the micralite is slightly heavier I think. What is the handle height like too on the micralite? I am 5ft10 and Maclarens are ok (which is why I am not looking at the cheaper strollers)

5inthebed · 20/05/2011 22:38

You can change the height of the micralite, its about the same as maclarens. I've had both, prefer the micralite.

MonkeysPunk · 21/05/2011 08:12

The denim quest is I think £135 from mothercare if you use the code Sas at checkout. This is what I would get.
Triumphs are a pita with a child of 2 as the seat won't stay upright enough.
I love the denim quest hood with its practical pocket on there.
Personally I found the Micralite a bit tippy, and not great for shopping.
If you can afford it later on, get the hamster bags for the maclaren. Kiddicare do them with free shipping. I bet the charcoal and blue ones will look lovely with the denim quest. The blue is quite a pretty bluebell shade.
You can fold the maclaren with the hsmster bags on if you unclip the bottom clip. So practical. I could kiss the mother that invented them. I'm surprised maclaren havent bought her design and made her a very rich woman! The bags are top quality.

MonkeysPunk · 21/05/2011 08:15

Oh and the carry strap on the quest makes it a real winner I think. The volo is just a bit too basic for an everyday buggy I think. Unless only for v short trips.

nicolamumof3 · 21/05/2011 10:52

volo over triumph every time, the seat is really nice quite hammocky so they can sleep in them ok but not great for a regular napper iykwim.

the hood much bigger on volo so good for summer too. I wouldn't get a triumph the recline is minimal. quest is good in betweener.

MonkeysPunk · 21/05/2011 20:42

Actually that triumph can be gotten for £80 delivered free at Mothercare! (the racing green one). How?
Well, its £85 on their website, so pick a liner for it. Green planes reversing to coffee looks classy on the racing green. Now were up to £100 right? Then add the code Sas at checkout for £20 off.
£80 for a really cute well made stroller delivered free. Awesome. That's cheaper than a volo. And you have your removable washable liner too.
Call me a buggy addict but I for one could not resist.
My new xlr hasn't even arrived yet. Persian red. I'm keeping both too! They're compact enough to stow away neatly.

Deflatedballoonbelly · 21/05/2011 20:52

I have the globetrotter and its great!

MonkeysPunk · 21/05/2011 21:10

A lot of shops are out of stock of Volos now. They've all sold really fast in the last couple of days! Must be because its half term on Friday and people needing them for holidays.

nicolamumof3 · 21/05/2011 21:25

do you think the globetrotter will take over the volo? seems same spec or does it have small recline?

chrisonabike · 22/05/2011 08:07

volo has a carry strap

Deflatedballoonbelly · 22/05/2011 09:13

Globetrotter reclines and has a carry strap. Hod is waterproof and it comes with a rain cover. Mothercare spend over 100 quid get 20 quid off, so cost 80 pounds. Bargain.

MonkeysPunk · 22/05/2011 09:33

When I spoke to the Maclaren rep - she said it was similar to the triumph - I think she mean with the recline bit. It looks like it has the wheels and hood shape of the volo - and some mesh at the seat sides too - making it really light and idea for warmer holiday destinations too. Smile

I do like the colourways of the globetrotter buggies - very cool - I think I'd like the black one - with a gold/black liner in it! Wink

I couldn't resist the triumph on this occasion though as green is my fave colour - and I could get the seat liner thrown in too for £80 (another fab bargain). Grin

Deflatedballoonbelly · 22/05/2011 09:38

Monkeys, I am so jell ( Grin ) of the green one! But the globetrotter is very nice. Your right, wheels and hood shape of the Volo. The material is really lightweight and it has the mesh. I like it! I got the grey and Im looking at liners now!

MonkeysPunk · 22/05/2011 09:57

Not that I'm a fan of (of "Big Babies" - CBBC), but really I would add the "gold/black" liner to the buggy you have! LOL Grin

Also, not that I'm "obsessive" about buggies - but I just checked out the pic of the racing green triumph on the Mothercare website again - and noticed it pictures one with the "Pinching" hinges - not the new round ones....now mothercare aren't always the best at displaying accurate up-to-date pics - or even specs on occassions too....so I wait with anticipation to see if mine actually will come with pinching hinges (and if they include the covers) or if it indeed will have the new round hinges. Confused It may be that the two triumphs at the lowest prices are actually old stock. hence the very low price.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 22/05/2011 10:05

Personally I like the triumph.
At 2 they don't need recline or upright
DD2 can sit upright in it she uses her muscles they don't need a back rest all the time, she sleep better half sat too,
and you can "slam" a tantruming child onto it very easily.
order from the glasgow pram company, used to be old models for 70 pounds incl. delivery , or buy second hand one.

BadRoly · 22/05/2011 11:22

Hello again and thank you all. Well I was in Plymouth yesterday so called into Mothercare and after playing for a bit bought a Triumph - the racing green one. The display one had the new safe hinges.

Then I got home and read this soooo have ordered the same pushchair online, along with a cover and will be taking the (still in it's unopened box) one back to Mothercare next week. The receipt says full refund within 28days if still in the original packaging so I can't see a problem... Famous last words?

The reason I chose it? It is to be an everyday pushchair, even in winter, so mesh sides probably will not be great for ds2. It is not just a holiday pushchair. And we get a lot of rain down here so assuming the rain cover is the same as the one on the ancient knackered Maclaren, he would get wet through the mesh... Also the recline is not a problem - the P&T is very laid back and it doesn't seem to bother him. I also like the new brake mechanism thinky - very easy to do in my flipflops (standard wear round here - well I am at the seaside ;) )

LeMousquetaire - the "new" fastening device thingy looks brilliant for the tantrum pushchair load up - I think it is almost impossible to catch your fingers in it ;).

OP posts:
BadRoly · 22/05/2011 11:26

Oh and Monkeyspunk - thank you especially for pointing out the online thing. I have a cover in the P&T and it makes such a difference for keeping it relatively clean. I also had a look at those hamster things - they look like the panniers I have for the P&T only much much better designed!! Could be good for days out...

OP posts:
MonkeysPunk · 22/05/2011 11:41

I got the blue hamsters for the red xlr I bought, they are fab. The quality is brilliant. Much like an expensive raincoat material. There are organisers pockets etc in them. You can put 5kg in each bag too. They really do use tardis technology! Small outside but big inside. Might have to get the green ones for the triumph.
Hope there's no probs when you return your ordered one in store.
I'm really hoping mine has new hinges when it arrives now.

BadRoly · 22/05/2011 11:45

It's not the ordered one I am returning - it is the one I bought instore. I won't open it. I will then keep the delivered one... Does that make more sense?
