Pushchairs
Wuoldyou get a Bee or Bee + for walking 2 year old? Or just BJCM?
beckstar24 · 23/02/2011 11:40
and if so which one? Want an easy to push one handed (so techno out) pushchair with decent sized seat and storage pushchair that's light and folds up smallish
I know most of the time he's going to walk but there are times for my sanity I'll need him in and when we're on hol can use in the evenings for him to sleep in/carry 3 kids worth of stuff around.
Given this would it be silly to get a Bee - would the Plus really be that much better - or should I get the BJCM I can get for £140 in Boots?

i just got a bargain bee (old version) for my twins as they walk alot but i do need one strapped in sometimes as two 2 year olds loose is madness. i also need to to carry all the bits my four children have on a day out. i did want the bee 2010 but it was alot more money and i feel more comfortable leaving it unattended for short periods of time when at adventure parks etc.
beckstar24 · 23/02/2011 12:07
He's 95cm tall - at nursery 3 days a week whilst i work - and I don't drive so it needs to fold up quickly and easily to store at nursery, fit on bus but be big enough to fit him OK
Does the old Bee work for bigger kids or is a new bee better?
Thanks
b*

I wouldn't buy a bee or a bcjm for occasional use for a 2 year old, tbh, unless you really love pushchairs and it would make you very happy and you have a high disposable income. You are going to get a lot less than a year of use out of it. I'd look at an ultra cheapo umbrella fold or ebay.
beckstar24 · 23/02/2011 12:34
Thanks - have v little disposable income but do have an umbrella stroller that I find tricky to push one handed as have a problem with my neck that makes it tough - so why I was looking for one handle only
My kids also seem to go to about 3.5 without reliably dropping the buggy as they have all been/are all early wakers and keep having a daytime nap til late - even now DD who is 4 and a bit will nap given the chance - so buggy makes the school run much easier :)
bamboostalks · 23/02/2011 12:37
I do find my bee+ impossible to put up one handed. It needs 2 imo.
baabaapinksheep · 23/02/2011 12:41
I have the Hauck Malibu, which is great, one handle and folds up smallish. I just keep it in my car for use around town.
triskaidekaphile · 23/02/2011 12:54
Poor you re neck. Sounds sore. I guess in those circs the bcjm would be a good bet.
dollydimple9 · 23/02/2011 14:46
I had the bee and upgraded to the bee+ when my dd hit two as she is tall and her head was resting in the hood of the old bee.I love mine for the reason you can push with one hand and i can hold hands with my 4 year old on school run, however my dd is 2.4 now and looks huge in it so i have also been looking at the bjcm, tried her in it at mothercare and she looked comfy and was easy to push.I also have maclaren quest and juicy maclaren but much prefare one handleand the bee is much easier to push then them.Hth.Is the bjcm cheaper on boots as its £225 at mothercare?
beckstar24 · 23/02/2011 15:19
Yes - it's £179-99 then 10% extra points with parenting code then 10% off code so £159 - then get extra £18 worth of points so really cheap
Honeydragon · 23/02/2011 16:21
Oh dolly don't say that I've just bought the bee+ for dd (14 months) I want it to last till she's 3!
Managed to get Mothercare down to £388 inc hood
OADCB · 23/02/2011 18:01
Baby jogger city micro is £99 at t j Hughes.
I have the mini. I love it
Honeydragon · 23/02/2011 21:52
I went in store today and got them to price match with Lullaboo and Lullabies online, both are doing it for £408/£409.
I then asked if I could use my 10%, they confirmed what I already knew that they cannot combine the two.
I pointed out that Lullaboo will automatically give me a further 5% off, so if they matched that I'd buy it from them now, they confirmed it and agreed to knock the extra 5% off to match that price.
Gives me peace of mind as I then have the Bugaboo 2 year guarantee and the Mothercare 2 year guarantee too

Didn't even have to print anything just showed them the relevant web page on my phone

mellie64 · 23/02/2011 22:54
Thats great, i am sooo tempted to get one and this is really sad but i like the wheels, they are much nicer and the hood is smaller. but i would have to lock it up if i leave it anywhere.
also the airbuggy is a great alternative to the bjcm
cgi.ebay.co.uk/Air-Buggy-Mimi-Single-Brown-Black-BNIB-RRP-399-/280624532455?pt=UK_Baby_BabyTravel_Pushchairs_GL&hash=item4156868be7
it is a smoother ride as it has airtyres but is lightweight because they are only small airtyres. i had a double airbuggy and used to go everywhere with it inc the beach. the only reason i didnt get a single instead of the bee is that i cant put a buggyboard on as the back bar is arched and the break is in the was for a maxiboard. but did get one for my SIL.
dollydimple9 · 24/02/2011 11:21
honey dragon it will be great for a 14 month old,but my 2 year old is a big girl (built like a rugby prop forward like her dad bless),she fits in it fine and it is still really light but she looks huge lol.I would recommend the bee or bee+ to anyone, you will love it.I got 20% off at mothercare when i got mine so i was very happy,i like a bargin x.
Beckstar have you decided what to go for,? and do you have the 10% code for boots by any chance? i might see if dp will treat me x
beckstar24 · 24/02/2011 11:53
I think I might go for my 6th Micralite - after all that - I have a really love/hate relationship with them so was going to get a good second hand one and possibly a cheap quest/volo for teh bus (as Micralite hopeless for the bus)
As he's hopefully going to walk most of the time I thought the Micralite best for pushing one handed - and he can sleep in the superlite if needed too :)
Boots code for 10% off is JMNS66 and if you're in the parenting club you get points at the rate of 10 per £1 - so effectively making it £141
dollydimple9 · 24/02/2011 12:42
Oh you've got me thinking again now,i really like the look of the micralite and it must be one of the only one's i have not tried, again not sure if my dd would look huge in it and noone local to me sells them to try it out.Would you recommend it as a walking pushchair? i tend to use my maclarens for car etc but i walk on the school run.
Thanks for the code .
beckstar24 · 24/02/2011 12:42
Hmmm - code not working for me today, worked on my basket yesterday - only 5% code BMCF55
beckstar24 · 24/02/2011 12:45
I find I have a love/hate relationship with them. They tip easily, I find the handle awkward and I often bash the wheels as wider at the front than back
Saying that, it makes DS so light to push, is really nippy - has decent sized basket, and is so easy to push one handed whilst holding their hands
iot's good for pavements, but front wheel size of techno so like that for off road - although can tip onto back wheels to get over really bumpy ground
Honeydragon · 24/02/2011 16:25
I couldn't get on with micralite, like you I hated it on the bus and hated it in the Winter. I think if I still had a car I'd use one at a second price for leaving in the boot as they are quite good for most terrains.
DD is small so hopefully it will last till she's 3 then .... I'm hoping I can stop buying prams now.
mellie64 · 25/02/2011 00:26
just bought a bee+ as well too much
glup!!!
how am i going to explain that to DH? i suppose i can say one twin and bee each. it might be nice for the twins to have their own buggy when DH comes out with us.
i need to get over pram buying now as the twins are 2 and i am not having anymore children, four children in four years is certainly enough.
i have tried distracting my attention to cooking rather than baby stuff, then i was looking at buggies for SIL who is due in june and now i have TWO more buggies for myself and one for SIL (i already have three doubles).thats it now my last buggy will be the bugaboo bee+. UNTILL......
actually its a shame the bugaboo donkey is a bit to late for me i couldnt spend £1k on a buggy for almost 3 year old twins
mellie64 · 25/02/2011 00:28
better stay away from the in sept/oct when the donkey is released
Honeydragon · 25/02/2011 08:20
I havent told dh yet he knows nothing of strollers I shall tell him it was £200 and he will go and will keep him away from mothercare
dh isn't a control freak he just has no idea what things cost, he found the receipt for dh's school shoes once (£38.00 none in the sale as mid term) and was horrified at the cost, yet he spends £60 a week on ciggarettes
