Best off road/dogwalking Pushchair (from birth)

Ok,

Please be gentle this is my first ever post! Confused

Our first baby is due in May, so I am trying to do as much research into pushchairs as humanly possible, only thing is I keep getting conflicting reviews etc, so thought I would as for some help!

I am trying to narrow down what peoples opinions are on the best buggy that is usable from birth ( I quite like the idea of having the option of adding a carrycot) that can cope with dog walking, I'm not planning on dragging it up mountains or anything, but I do want something that is rugged enough to cope with walking throught the woods & general off road doggie walking activity BUT obviosuly not being made of £££ it will have to be suitable for the shops too coz I can't afford 2!

So currently topping the list is the Baby Jogger Terrain (which I can't find ANYWHERE to look at in the flesh & is £££) or the iCandy Apple Jogger (gets v mixed reliablilty & customer service reviews)

So, have I completley overlooked something which you guys think is awesome??
Any feedback would be h-mazing, as I feel v lost & confused by everything baby related at the moment!

Cheers!

Sounds as if it was more the "style" than the durability or quality of design / build that I was thinking of with quality. All the buggies have some plastic components.
There is nothing that breaks easily on the baby jogger though.

Yes it would be boring if we all liked the same and if there was no choice on the market - it's good to have options for everyones taste.

Sorry if my Hmm offended you. Xmas Smile

MonkeysPunk · 14/12/2010 20:38

I DID have a Phil and Teds - and they are now the same manufacturers of the Mountain Buggy Brand which is why I refer to them as a comparison. Sorry for any confusion there. Xmas Blush

SantasMadMissy · 14/12/2010 20:39

This is what I have Mountain Buggy Terrain
I'm as passionate about that as you are your BJogger. Smile

Biggem whatever you choose good luck and enjoy!

SantasMadMissy · 14/12/2010 20:41

And yes aware of it but very different buggys. Had plenty of both to know. Good you have found something you are happy with!

MonkeysPunk · 14/12/2010 20:47

Ha - that looks almost identical the the BabyJogger summit xc - we have good taste! Xmas Grin

ps have you seen the Alvi Outlast space technology snuggle bags here bet this would also fit mountain buggy well.

SantasMadMissy · 14/12/2010 20:51

Mountain Buggy Terrain (fixed wheel) with the carrycot to start is what you need. I love them.

You can get hold of one second hand pretty cheapily if you scan ebay and local ads.

Don't get the new one - reviews have said they are rubbish (made by Phil and Teds in China).

SantasMadMissy · 14/12/2010 20:59

Wow where did you hear it was rubbish?

SantasMadMissy · 14/12/2010 21:01

Also the Mountain Buggy were always made in china! It was just never 'put out there'! The original MB company wanted the view that it was NZ buggy through and through. They have not changed where they are made despite popular belief that they did.

maxybrown · 14/12/2010 21:03

loads of poeple moan about the newer ones over old ones - older ones are much more popular

SantasMadMissy · 14/12/2010 21:05

see i have had hige amount of older ones too and i can not see how they differ other than the improvements.

The weight on the old urbans up til 2009 was lighter

Thank god they got rid of the axle bit that stuck out though for a start. Way too many dents through doorways that used to cause!

catdoctor · 14/12/2010 21:07

Why wasn't this thread going when I was preggers!

Did hours of Googling, ended up with Jane powertrack 360 by chance, off ebay, excellent price

Done us v well off road - copes with our doggy/horsey life v well - roads and tracks, woodland, lace-deep mud, feggy grass, hay to approx 30cm high

sludgy stuff in tyres seems vg anti-punctures

has the wobbly front wheel thing when not fixed which is apparantly design issue, but not an issue for us as bab likes the wobbly eeffect I think - sleeps well

SantasMadMissy · 14/12/2010 21:07

*huge

Older ones were also cheaper! I don't know of many people that have preffered the old over the new once owned both. The lightness is a factor though and the most obvious between them.

MonkeysPunk · 14/12/2010 21:09

read this review and having had a Phil & Teds and actually experienced that to be poor - it was enough to put me off! (sorry)

I have to say the pics of the NEW Mountain Buggy Terrain look very nice and I would be interested in viewing it for myself to judge if somewhere nearby was selling it.

However I have made my choice with the BJ Summit XC and am happy so not intending to buy another. My choice also suited my budget well - The mountain buggy is £220 more here than I paid for my Baby Jogger City Summit and I don't see that it offers significantly more features and I'm wondering how much I would be paying for the name.

SantasMadMissy · 14/12/2010 21:10

broken link?

MonkeysPunk · 14/12/2010 21:10

Sorry that should have been "I read this review" - rather than a command of "read this review" lol Xmas Blush

SantasMadMissy · 14/12/2010 21:11

lol
link doesn't work?

MonkeysPunk · 14/12/2010 21:12

www.pushchairs.co.uk/ :the above review I was referring to!

SantasMadMissy · 14/12/2010 21:14

Oh yeah they stopped doing them when they were taken over. Its a shame really as it initially put me off too but I am so glad I tried again.

That is the only bad review that I have read anywhere since they stopped doing them.

For the money though, like you say you would want to have a play with one first.

changer22 · 15/12/2010 12:35

SantasMadMissy - I always thought they were NZ made and the article here seems to say that while some of the fabric was sewn in China, everything else was NZ manufactured.

SantasMadMissy · 15/12/2010 12:59

As did I, but I was talking to a Out'n'About rep couple weeks back and he said the what I have said below.

Have you had a new MB or just the pre take over?

SantasMadMissy · 15/12/2010 13:00

Not just the fabric.

"They do manufacturing here, sure, but a bunch of the parts of the stroller are fully made-up and delivered to them already."

An example was fabric sets, some of which were made in New Zealand and some were imported from Chinese suppliers.

And some metal parts and wheels were also made offshore.

saffy85 · 15/12/2010 14:50

Don't know if it's been suggested already but the Mothercare Urban Detour is brilliant. Think it isn't called that now but the newer one is basically the same from what I can see. I'm cleaning mine up to use for my next baby due in June as it's still going strong after 3 years of trips to Asda, long walks with the dog across the countryside, on the beach, up steep hills etc. Smile
