Round here it seems to be in the area of 8m plus! I'm not sure I'll have the patience for that.

Sold in 3 weeks last autumn (Hertfordshire).

SIL just sold her house in about 2 weeks (Bedfordshire).

Think the main reason is the price being right.

boogeek · 19/05/2010 19:01

Since, um, February I think?

strawberrycornetto · 19/05/2010 19:03

South east London. Sold in February in about 4 weeks but did accept a lowish offer because we wanted to move quickly.

emsyj · 19/05/2010 19:09

We're in the North West and our own house isn't on the market but one very similar on the opposite side of the road has been up since start of November. Have seen a few people viewing but it's not sold. Has already been reduced by 5% in price.

OrmRenewed · 19/05/2010 19:27

Thanks.

Mine is priced low. We've had 5 viewings and one quite interested buyer but she decided against. I am hoping we won't have to wait as long as everyone else has here

One week, had three viewers but no response as yet.
It's not overpriced , but nor is it a bargain.

purepurple · 19/05/2010 19:55

Nearly 2 years! We have reduced it twice and have just accepted an offer that matches one we received when we first put it on the market.
We had different plans then, we were thinking of emigrating and needed all the money we could get our hands on. Our plans have now changed. We did have a couple of really low offers that o=even our estate agent said we shouldn't accept.

OrmRenewed · 19/05/2010 19:57

Congratulations purepurple! I think a lot of people have had to change their plans thanks to the vagaries of the housing market.

Thanks Orm. The bank are sending in the survey man tomorrow, so fingers crossed that they don't find out that it is falling down.
We did have someone try to gazump us though. They offered 3k more than we did. Thankfully, the vendors did not accept the new offer. Glad there are still people with principles out there.

hippipotamiHasLost92lbs · 19/05/2010 20:08

Oh, Orm, you are not going to want to hear this.
We went on the market last Wednesday. By Saturday we had had 14 viewings. On Monday we received an offer of £16,000 OVER the asking price. We accepted.

The downside is - I cannot find anything I want to buy...

OrmRenewed · 19/05/2010 20:10

Where are you hippo?

hippipotamiHasLost92lbs · 19/05/2010 20:21

Surrey

canella · 19/05/2010 20:27

was nearly exactly a year from going on the market to getting the money in the bank. it was in the NW of England.

twolittledarlings · 19/05/2010 21:36

Had an open day with 17 viewings and 3 offers. Accepted on day one.

I live in Wanstead, London. Have today exchanged. Now I can sleep fully after 3 months of broken sleep.

Eaglebird · 19/05/2010 21:37

On the market about 4 weeks. Had 10 viewings so far, and another 2 booked for this weekend. No offers yet though

RustyBear · 19/05/2010 21:40

The house about 3 doors down has been for sale for about 10 days & a sold sign went up tonight.
It's almost exactly the same as ours, except the extension is at the back instead of the side & it sold for almost exactly 3 times what we paid for ours - though that was 19 years ago!

jenniepanda · 19/05/2010 22:15

We've been on for 3 years and are actually taking it off tomorrow and giving up. We were supposed to be relocating 200 miles to be near my parents, but it just hasn't worked out and now DDs are quite settled it just doesn't seem worth it anymore

OrmRenewed · 19/05/2010 22:19

Mixed experiences then.

Sorry to hear that jennie. It's a bugger isn't it?

OP posts:
oopsiedoopsie · 20/05/2010 08:17

Been on since last August, but only actually for sale for about 5 months of that time, had 3 (time wasters) buyers pull out after periods of time due to not being able to get a mortgage they could afford.
Why the hell people don't find out what they can afford to get before making offers is beyond me

OrmRenewed · 20/05/2010 10:33

I wonder that too oopsie. I was having a chat with one of my neighbours who is also selling. She's been on the market for nearly a year, almost sold once, has found the house she wants and knows what she will have to pay for it. And she still hasn't worked out what it will cost or arranged a mortgage. I told her what our advisor told us our new payments would be if we sold and bought for roughly what we expected and she went very quiet. She's on a very tight budget indeed. Madness!

am in lancashire and i have had my bloody flat on the market for 3 years, although we did have a break for a few months and asked the agent not to market whilst baby was newborn. we have a very dry patch were veiwers were concerned but it has picked up int he last few months.

OrmRenewed · 20/05/2010 10:44

pud - did you accept the offer you were talking about on the other thread?

OP posts:
Nymphadora · 20/05/2010 10:56

5months and loads of viewers and interest expressed but no actual offers! Reduced for the second time this week. No first time buyers around though

NoahAndTheWhale · 20/05/2010 11:00

Just looked at this thread and saw Wigeon had mentioned me already .

House went on the market 24th March and got offer on 14th April I think. So maybe more like three weeks.

We are moving on 7 June. I am somewhat in denial.

My mum and dad's house near Liverpool has been on the market since middle of February and has had two viewers .

BornToFolk · 20/05/2010 11:13

2 days. The first person to see it wanted it and offered a little under the asking price. It was enough for us and meant no more viewings so we accepted.

Still trying to find somewhere to buy though, which is proving to be the tricky bit...

It seems to be way it goes here though (in Reading). The good properties get snapped up and the rest linger around for a while.
