Hee hee hee, come and have a look at what a 1930s semi costs in Barnes, London

here

Granted, its a very nice 1930s semi, and Barnes is lovely (although not terribly central) but chuffing nora!

OH that kitchen . The front is fugly compared to the inside.

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/05/2010 17:20

No, and Bridget Jones couldn't have afforded her flat in Borough Market either .

It might be 6 beds but they have squeezed two of them into the attic, which means no storage space. Looks lovely inside, and quite spacious, but it is still a semi and not that attractive from the outside. Pity anyone who 'needs' to live in London with these prices.

QSnondomicile · 16/05/2010 17:23

That is a splendid home, though, bibbity, 6 bedrooms, in a prime location, not far from our house, to be honest.

It has substantial parks, the playing fields, the wetland centre, floodlit tennis courts, football and tennis club, cycle paths, the thames, good schools nearby. In addition, the quaint shops and boutiques of Barnes and East Sheen are nearby, Hammersmith just across the bridge, and within easy reach of transport. Oh, and Starbucks, for that aspiring saturday morning breakfast out.

I would love to live there. Cant afford it though.

And, Barnes IS great. The best place to live in London, honest.

RibenaBerry · 16/05/2010 17:23

Bibity - Nope, nor that smug couple on Love Actually their mews house (or Egg his Oxo tower live/work studio in the same film)...

Indaba · 16/05/2010 17:24

We looked in Barnes for a while.....much of Barnes is under the flight path......planes overhead every 45 seconds 4 days out of 7......lovely!!

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/05/2010 17:29

No, nor Hugh Grant (humble quirky bookshop owner) his house in Notting Hill which was actually Richard Curtis's house at the time ...

QS is that you? The QS living in a cold country atm?

seems a lot, I was expecting it to be cutting edge architected for the kind of cash, you know with a pool in the basement, possibly an infinity pool lipping over the edge of a tube line. OH sorry! No decent tube lines down there

QSnondomicile · 16/05/2010 17:43

that is right bibbity. Although, today we have 30 degrees on our balcony, 25 degrees on the beach and meltwater from the snow is gushing down the roads....

Thediaryofanobody · 16/05/2010 17:47

RibenaBerry
They probably could have if they had brought the house 15+ years ago. Plus the mum would have been working then too so it would have been a double income household with no children.

tvfriend · 16/05/2010 18:07

Maybe the outnumbered lot could afford their house (in Chiswick?) if they'd both bought 1 bed flats at the right time, 2 bed flats at the right time and eventually ended up with a terrace that needed lots of work just before prices went sky high. (I may be thinking about it a tad too much though ).

GrendelsMum · 16/05/2010 19:18

I was moaning about Bridget Jones' flat to my cousin, who works in films, and he said that the logistics of filming in real houses mean the rooms have to be large, no matter what you're supposed to be filming - because you've got to fit an entire camera crew into the room as well as the actors.

SpringHeeledJack · 16/05/2010 20:02

RibenaBerry roffle @ Egg. He's Egg in our house too. In fact the poor sod will be Egg till he's 90

amidaiwish · 16/05/2010 20:11

i'm not that surprised tbh, yes it is a 1930s semi and not great from the outside, but it has good osp and a MASSIVE garden. i have never seen a garden that big in Barnes. that's got to have added a lot to the value.

sharbie · 16/05/2010 23:27

oh yeah Notting Hill - forgot about that one.How much would that be worth now ??

NoahAndTheWhale · 16/05/2010 23:40

Somehow feels a bit over-bedroomed (if that can be a description). Would want more living area with 6 bedrooms although I suppose you could turn bedrooms into something else.

Not that I am ever going to need to concern myself with how to organise a £2.3 million house

NoahAndTheWhale · 16/05/2010 23:43

Looking at the floor plan it is too open plan for me. Glad that's sorted then.

NoahAndTheWhale · 16/05/2010 23:46

Think I prefer this one

badkitty · 17/05/2010 11:22

I think its gorgeous on the inside, lovely garden, but front is blooming ugly. Am surprised Barnes is so expensive with the flight path. Didn't think it would be more than Wandsworth but judging by that there is a big difference.

ben5 · 17/05/2010 11:27

i'm in the wrong kind of job! i do like hatesponges option better

QSnondomicile · 17/05/2010 11:42

Yes Noah, that is much nicer!

or this

or even this one!

GoingPostal · 17/05/2010 21:26

can't resist throwing this in £1.6m per bedroom!
