here

Granted, its a very nice 1930s semi, and Barnes is lovely (although not terribly central) but chuffing nora!

Blardy hell. I mean its gorgeous...but...yikes...

SpringHeeledJack · 16/05/2010 13:36

why are you looking, anyway, Bibbity?

[nosy]

got itchy feet?

EdgarAllenPoll · 16/05/2010 13:40

i just wondered because it doesn't show anything sold after the end of 2008 in my road, and I'm sure things have sold since then...

EdgarAllenPoll · 16/05/2010 13:42

property snoop emoticon

Oh no Spingy, not thinking of moving (although am now ever so slightly bricking it at the notion dd may not get into K school for secondary and then what are we going to do cos we aren't in the catchment for the C school either).

Just saw an ad for the Barnes house in the paper, caught my eye, thought blardy hell that's a bit of a silly typo, looked on line and ... yikes! tis true.

I live a stones throw from Barnes- slightly cheaper but not much. That's what houses cost around here! Our 4 bed terrace is worth about £900k. That's why some people in London get uppity about the '£45k is a Huge salary thread' etc . (Although I do take the point that we don't all have to live in the more pricey areas).

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/05/2010 14:13

There's a hell of a difference between £900,000 and £2,300,000 though isn't there tvfriend? I am used to London house prices as I live in a reasonably poncetastic area of London myself and used to work in property in Chelsea BUT over £2 million for a 1930s semi even made me raise an eyebrow.

Very true BBH- but if you ignore the 30's semi bit, for 6 beds, 'double frontage', huge garden, parking etc in a nice place, it's not too bad (relatively speaking)Sad but true... If it had a few 'original features' it'd probably be £3m!

NomDePlume · 16/05/2010 14:23

v nice but shocking price

That said, it is a v good area, large garden, lots of square footage, Off road parking, double fronted, light and airy, well heeled family area therefore I assume excellent schools.

It is a high price and I'm suprised it is over £2m but not suprised it is over £1.75m.

Just because it was on the market for £2.3m and is 'under offer', does not mean it is under offer for anything like the £2.3m asking price

tvfriend · 16/05/2010 14:25

here
Terrace for £2.5m- seems sillier

HairyMaclary · 16/05/2010 14:26

I have a friend who lives in that road, price tag does not surprise me at all. I grew up around there - don't live there now though!

For 2.9 million you could get this near us which is actually the most expensive house our town for sale!!!

I knew that prices in London were ridiculous, but I can't believe that's the price of a semi!!

NomDePlume · 16/05/2010 15:05

crikey fatzak, that's one helluva place!

ClaireDeLoon · 16/05/2010 15:08

Wow at that house fatzak! I know which house I'd prefer

seb1 · 16/05/2010 15:16

You would be better with this Arndilly you have some change from your semi plus 2 spare houses in the garden.

SpringHeeledJack · 16/05/2010 15:16

Bib I share your pain on schools. DS goes to K- he's in Y8. When he got in they were falling over themselves to take anyone that'd put them first choice. Now it's gone bonkers

...he's likely to be leaving 6th form the same year the DDs start, so we won't get siblings. rrrrrrrr

seb1 · 16/05/2010 15:17

It is offers over £1,750,000

strawberrycornetto · 16/05/2010 17:05

I used to live in Barnes. It is lovely but ridiculously expensive. We lived in a cheap part and we traded in a 2 bed plus loft conversion terraced house with a back yard. We moved to South London, a nice part, and bought a 5 bed detached victorian villa with a 100 ft garden. It needed work but it was the same price. We really loved Barnes but the prices were insane then and are even crazier now.

MrsMorgan · 16/05/2010 17:07

That looks very much like the pic of the house Mark Owen was reported to have bought recently.

I remember seeing the pic and reading the price and thinking eh ?

Quattrocento · 16/05/2010 17:14

I absolutely hate that house. Yuck. Chopped up and added on and hacked about and no integrity and a phenomenal price too. Blimey!

RibenaBerry · 16/05/2010 17:17

Sorry, this was way up the thread, but NO NO NO, the family in Outnumbered could no way afford their house, not anywhere vaguely central in London! Annoys me every time in an otherwise fab programme.

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/05/2010 17:19

Omg I love that Huddersfield house [green].
