No, no, no, no, no,no,no,no,no,nononononononooooooo!

I could not be without my laundry room.

ThatVikRinA22 · 18/01/2010 21:00

i covet a utility room sooooo bad. so thatll be a no from me.!

butadream · 18/01/2010 21:01

Yes, if it meant having a table in the kitchen if I couldn't already fit one.

Do you have to lose it completely, you can stack a washer and dryer on top of each other in a tall cupboard?

Cyb · 18/01/2010 21:01

No, because why would you want your noisy washing banging around in the busiest room of the house. Plus ponky laundry bin

Can you fit a table in your kitchen already?

Clayhead · 18/01/2010 21:02

Never!!!

MitchyInge · 18/01/2010 21:03

where would the chickens go?

MrsMattie · 18/01/2010 21:03

We have a lovely big kitchen but to be honest, I would kill for a utility room.

JeMeSouviens · 18/01/2010 21:06

No, I'd rather tear out the dining room wall for open plan.

Onlyaphase · 18/01/2010 21:07

Depends on so many things - I covet a bigger kitchen but where would I dry muddy dogs/take off wellies and wet coats/hide ironing mountain/ keep painting stuff/spare fridge/keep aforementioned wet coats and wellies and dogs etc?

I did have a house once with a tiny utility room on a different side of the house and survived the experience though. If you have big enough cupboards to hide the laundry stuff in I suppose you could get away with it

duckyfuzz · 18/01/2010 21:07

Yes I would and have - poky kitchen and even pokier futility room have joined with study to make fab kitchen

twooter · 18/01/2010 21:07

mmm, i was thinking that's what you'd say. i have got a couple of places where i could possibly put the washing machine/dryer, depending on plumbing, obviously. its just that it would make my kitchen so much more open. oh well, more thought required

OP posts:
sowhatitsonlysnow · 18/01/2010 21:07

Utility room is sacred!

twooter · 18/01/2010 21:08

so no regrets duckyfuzz?

OP posts:
coldtits · 18/01/2010 21:10

I would love a tility room.

You don't have to heat a utility room, you don't have topCLEAN a utility room. Kitchen mess expands to fit the available kitchen, I find.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/01/2010 21:12

No. Not a chance.

When we bought our current house we sailed about during the viewing saying,"oh and we'll knock that wall down between the kitchen and utility, make a lovely big family kitchen with room for a table"

Then we moved in. Now the kitchen can be kept presentable and all the laundry, recycling, shopping bought on BOGOF's, muddy wellies etc. live in the utility room behind a closed wall.

Never, ever will that wall be knocked down!

twooter · 18/01/2010 21:12

so if you were looking at a house to buy, would you be less tempted by one with a fabulous kitchen and no utility room, than utility room and mediocre kitchen?

OP posts:
SqueezyIsStartinAResolution · 18/01/2010 21:12

Keep the utility room. The hide a multitude of sins...plus, it's one of those things you'd miss after you lost it.

twooter · 18/01/2010 21:13

i think i need to go on the Home Show...

OP posts:
sowhatitsonlysnow · 18/01/2010 21:13

twooter - I would keep the utility and plan to renew the kitchen

TheWorldFamousKewcumber · 18/01/2010 21:15

where would you hide all the crap when visitors are due?

TheBossofMe · 18/01/2010 21:17

Nope. I love my utility room. Have been known to grab 15 mins sitting down with a book in it when in need of some quiet time (no-one ever looks for me in there!).

duckyfuzz · 18/01/2010 21:17

no regrets - but we have tumble drier in garage (not attched which is a pain) and no dogs, cat paw marks easily mopped up

every time I stand there cooking whilsst DTs are sat at table I just grin, DH and I have even danced round it

duckyfuzz · 18/01/2010 21:19

our old utility was tichy small though, def no room to sit and read a book in there! had it been bigger I may feel differently!

TheFallenMadonna · 18/01/2010 21:21

Hmmm. I don;t know. I went from having a tiny kitchen to a good size one, and the difference is really significant. I love the bigger kitchen. I probably would.

And I hide my stuff in the boiler room

MadreInglese · 18/01/2010 21:23

OMG I speed read this as "would you lose your virginity to make a nice big kitchen"

well, no to both questions!
