Hi

We're going to view 4 houses there on Saturday, feeling very nervous would be moving away from my family and friends and closer to in laws (must be mad!)

We're on south coast at the mo

Is it nice/friendly etc?

Any thoughts/advice gratefully received!

I'm in Bath next Thursday, I may have to detour to the Frome Festival instead, Littlerach!

morningpaper · 04/06/2009 14:39

What fun that will be, stuck in a country lane for two hours

Rhubarb · 04/06/2009 14:41

littlerach, are you going to the Holt Music Festival on Sat?

littlerach · 04/06/2009 14:57

Nope, am being duitful wife and going to a BBQ with dh, oneof his colleagues'.
Will be great as I am veggie and his colleague prides himself on huge chunks of meat to BBQ. Lats year was vensison.

Would have liked ot have gone though.
I'd also like ot go to the Pump Festivla but it is so expensive.

Are you taking children with you?

Rhubarb · 04/06/2009 14:59

Yup, will be doing. And dh's friend who he'll be off to Istanbul with that very night.

littlerach · 04/06/2009 15:04

Let me know what it is like? I think there use dot be a folk one on Chippenham each year. Or BoA.
Istanbul? Very nice.

Sorry fpr hi jack!

Rhubarb · 04/06/2009 16:14

There still is a folk one in Chippenham, 'twas last weekend. We studiously avoided it!

traceybath · 04/06/2009 16:56

I'm between chippenham and bath and its a lovely area.

Would also recommend renting first - we rented when we first went rural to see if we liked it.

Some nice village primary schools around here and have all the schools in bath on your doorstep if you go private.

But probably pricier than from - for a 4 bed detatched you'd probably be looking at £500k'ish.

Thanks GeneHunt I'll put links on tonight once toddler is in bed!

I admit myself I'm a bit of a fussy snob

Glad I'm not on my own Rhurbarb!

Thanks very much for the links also Littlerach they look very promising!

Hi

I'm doing the same as u but for different reasons. I was born in frome and spent 20 years there, I then moved to the city for a further 10 (thought the grass was greener) i now cannot wait to move back next year! I am not bias as like i said, I left frome as wanted 'better' I can now see through fresh eyes how lovely the place is. Schools are great (some exceptions) but there are school buses to out of town schools. Town is very pretty with great little shops. One side of town is beautiful quiet and generally a great place to live, the other is not quite so desirable but I am not going to publicly bad mouth someone's home area on here but if u wanted to pm an area for an opinion then feel free but that's all it is 'my opinion' I think u will will make it ur happy home regardless. Don't be put off by anyone's opinions as they will have come to that conclusion in their own way and I'm sure most have never actually lived in frome anyway!! Good luck I hope u and ur family are very happy and love frome as much as I now do

Hi there. I know it's been quite a while since anyone posted about Frome on here but can somebody tell me if it's still up and coming??? We're due to move there in September and just wondered if the town was still waiting to be "renovated"? Tha kz for your help.

agnesf · 12/06/2017 01:55

Crikey - this is an antique thread. All I can say is Frome Cheese SHow was a big disappointment - thought it would be full of artisan Hugh Fearnley Whitingstall types temtpting me to taste their vine wrapped goaty offereings but it was just giant indutrial blocks of cheddar - almost big enough to build a whole eco house from.

The bull parade was good though but a bit scary as had massive scary bulls with nose rings and tiny children leading round champion shetland ponies in the same arena.

Beckyb1 · 12/06/2017 07:18

It's a quaint place, but not really my taste. Some nice shops around. We live in a place which has been called a complete "shit hole" so who am I to judge... Blush

My sister lives near Trowbridge which is pretty convenient for rail links to Bath, Bristol and routes to London. She is in IT as well.

wheresmyphone · 13/06/2017 05:18

Rent first. Without a doubt.
