marmoleum - love it. warm underfoot, easy to clean and looks lovely.

BamBamBoozled · 20/05/2009 18:59

Tiles - COLD! Easy to keep clean but annoying where they have chipped (only one but it catches my eye all the time) because it's not fixable. Having said that I've dropped a Le Creuset dish on them and they've survived (I don't know where the damn chip came from). If I was doing them again I'd be tempted to have underfloor heating under them.
Anyone got wooden floors...drrooool...that's what I want next time.

beanstalk · 20/05/2009 19:39

Solid oak flooring in mine. Looked fab when new but it wasn't finished properly I don't think (previous owner put it in), I think it was oiled rather than varnished. It is now stained from spillages and needs sanding and refinishing which is expensive to get done.

southeastastra · 20/05/2009 19:43

the most awful white vinyl with those little triangles on them. it stains and has tears.

was here when we moved in. would avoid like the plague.

would love solid wood floor but need new kitchen first

MadameCastafiore · 20/05/2009 19:46

Shite terracota big tiles - hate hate hate them, they are cold and hard and stub my toes a lot because we have such an old house that there are lots of steps from front to back kitchen and conservatory - and it fecking hurts when you stub your toes on the edge of a big hard cold terracota tile.

I want something vinyly or soft that can have under floor heating.

kif · 20/05/2009 19:55

laminate.

It was fitted poorly and is too cheap for the amount of wear it gets.

Bubbled all over.

Goober · 20/05/2009 19:57

Slate tiles.
Lush.

  1. Easy peasy.
  2. Yes.
lalalonglegs · 20/05/2009 20:48

Black ceramic tiles - easy to care for but, yep, a bit cold on a winter's morning.

mrsmaidamess · 20/05/2009 20:50

Solid oak with underfloor heating (ponce) But its oak thats a bit bashed around the edges to look like its been there for yonks.

It is veh easy to keep clean, shows the 1/2 tonne of crumbs my children deposit on it daily but what wouldn't?

MrsMcCluskey · 20/05/2009 20:50

Laminate floor tiles that look like stone.
They are easy to keep clean and stay clean.
Not cold.
Am really pleased with them.
My Mum has just had karndean flooring put in. It is fab and now am wishing I had this instead!

thisisyesterday · 20/05/2009 20:52

i want this when i get my kitchen redone

ninedragons · 20/05/2009 20:53

Cork. It's fantastic - warm underfoot and I don't think we've broken a single piece of crockery since we moved in (in contrast to our former place, which had a marble floor and occasioned so many smashed dishes it was like a Greek wedding).

It's that 80s ginger colour but when we renovate I'm going to get cork again, this time in chocolate brown.

mrsmaidamess · 20/05/2009 20:54

I looked at rubber but we would have had to remortgage to get it done!

Friendlypizzaeater · 20/05/2009 20:56

Nice big stone tiles with underfloor heating best thing we bought that !!!)

ohdearwhatamess · 20/05/2009 20:59

Tiles

Easy to clean but chip the moment anything is dropped on them (and the thing dropped shatters into 1000 pieces). Always look grubby because of the chips. Also cold underfoot.

Didn't choose them, wouldn't have them again.

chimchar · 20/05/2009 21:44

ooooooh! i nearly wet my pants in excitement at all my replies! (am a bit pissed tho...)

lol

thanks for the info everyone. i've seen the floor i want...solid oak with old battered edges on it. its nearly quadruple my measly budget, but i can't find an alternative i like as much as it!!

am liking the cork idea......

mmmmmm. food for thought again. fgs...help me make a decision!

units will be cream or whiteish shaker style. kitchen style will be comfy, light, bright, shaker stylee traditional look rather than modern and sleek iykwim...

bloody things not even built yet though, so no immediate rush!!!

slate

easy to clean, but cold underfoot without sockies on

would have again

6inchnipples · 20/05/2009 21:54

polished stone tiles, i love them, they are shiny when clean like they have a glass top, but bloody cold on the feet.

i would have them again as look nice and easy to clean. I just avoid having bare fet in there!

Portofino · 20/05/2009 21:57

Big cream tiles. Rented house. They look great but show dirt really easily.

neversaydie · 21/05/2009 10:33

Cheap laminate - here when we bought the house. Never, ever again.

vonny67 · 21/05/2009 14:41

Marmoleum. It's fab.

barbarapym · 21/05/2009 14:46

Oak finished in hardwax oil with underfloor heating. It's fab, easy to keep clean and looks great. Would definitely have it again. Even survives having stray welded cheerios chiselled off it...

NorbertDentressangle · 21/05/2009 14:48

Dark grey slate tiles -great as they hide a multitude of sins

Galava · 21/05/2009 14:50

Limestone.

Looks lovely when clean .. but shows just one or two stains more than I'm happy with.

Oh, and the grout is whitre which was a big mistake. Althought, if it wasnt white it would have looked wierd.
