Ok, so if money was little or no object and you were going to buy a 'pied a terre' type small flat in London to stay in on your many shopping/ cultural weekends , which area would you buy in?

Oooooohhhhhhhhh. Marble Arch? Pretty central for the west end, knightsbridge and the parks.

Gloucester Circus, Greenwich.

georgiemum · 25/03/2009 13:59

Bayswater Road. I find south of the park harder to get around public-transport-wise. Try to srick to the Central Line. Holland Park then.

JimmyMcNulty · 25/03/2009 14:05

Lol fimbo we used to live in Greenwich and Gloucester Circus was where all my fantasy houses were!

I never saw anybody using that lovely green space in the middle though, bit sad - I suppose they all have huge gardens and the park is just across the road anyway.

Fimbo · 25/03/2009 14:08

JIMMYI know parts of it are a dive, but I just love Greenwich. We have spent many a happy time there and have holiday twice in a tiny house off Point Hill.

MrsMattie · 25/03/2009 14:10

Maida Vale. I even know the exact road I'd buy on . It's close to the West End, not intimidatingly, stupidly wealthy, has a lovely neighbourhood-ey feel and gorgeous mansion block flats. Love it.

Either that, or a huge top floor flat in one of those big, white, stucco houses at the Notting Hill end of Ladbroke Grove. Gorgeous.

MorrisZapp · 25/03/2009 14:10

ooh, great suggestions all!

Isn't Belgravia a tumbleweed zone after all the diplomats and sheiks have clocked off for the day? I don't know the area but sure I heard that.

My needs would be: safe to walk around, near to decent food shops and cafes, nearish to some green space, bit of a 'community' feel. And not too wild and noisy at night.

I wouldn't mind being a tube ride away from West End.

(my fantasy needs, this is!)

Just off Marylebone High Street for me.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 25/03/2009 14:20

Greenwich (in fact I know the exact house) or Portobello Road

WowOoo · 25/03/2009 14:25

St.Johns Wood or Highgate.

jeanjeannie · 25/03/2009 15:12

Putney or Barnes - by the river

EldonAve · 25/03/2009 15:16

Sloane Sq

Molesworth · 25/03/2009 15:25

I wouldn't say no to a place in one of the streets between the river and Kings Road, or a top floor flat with roof garden in Soho would be tolerable

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 25/03/2009 16:25

Oh I could never live in Soho, it's seriously dodgy under the surface.

georgiemum · 25/03/2009 16:28

What about the Barbican. The flats there are very stylish.

ickletickle · 25/03/2009 19:46

chelsea...
or maybe south ken

actually its my retirement dream to have a pied a terre in london and a bolt hole by the sea... better start saving

Ewe · 25/03/2009 19:48

I would probably go for just off the KR or pimlico, I really like that part of London.

I wouldn't mind one of the apartments around Clapham Common either.

Ewe · 25/03/2009 19:50

Hmmm, Marylebone High St/Fitzrovia would be good too, very close to the office - if I still had to work.

Too many fantastic places to live in London!

EachPeachPearMum · 25/03/2009 20:13

Eldon Road, W8
don't think I'd be happy with just a 'flat' though...

Hassled · 25/03/2009 20:14

Covent Garden. Neal Street neck of the woods.
