Moving to Tamworth/Lichfield

we're being relocated to work to the Lichfield/Tamworth area and really don't know the area at all. Can you MNs recommend any nice villages/small towns in the area?

We have a 2 yr old to find a full time nursery for plus the joys of finding a good primary school I guess.

Thanks!

Those houses on Main Street ae lovely and look big from the front, you'll do well with that one!!!!

Good luck with the veiwing and keepme posted!!!!

spiralqueen · 05/11/2009 22:50

Agent rang to say house on Main Street under offer and not having anymore viewings. Am feeling really hacked off that we've missed another good house due to work being so slow in processing the move paperwork

Fingers crossed that none of the others go in the next week.... (or even better the offer falls through and we get the chance to go for it!)

Oh dear, but things happen for a reason!!!

SallyinLichfield · 09/11/2009 22:54

Hi again,

Sorry I've just been soooo busy!
My son is 3.5 years old and really loves animal crackers still, I think the staff are all great in the pre-school rooms and I've never noticed any friction between the owner and the staff??

Hope you house hunting is going well!

Sally x

spiralqueen · 19/11/2009 15:15

Sally - I've heard more positive reports about Animal Crackers in the meantime which has put our minds a bit more at ease. Will all depend on where we end up living though.

Came up at the weekend and ended up with 8 viewings! Do either of you have any idea what Coton is like to live in? Or Whittington? We did stop for a drink and a review of the properties at the Bell in Whittington and a very nice local lady came over and started chatting to us and raving about what a lovely village it was to live in

This week has been manic with valuers and estate agents going over our house but at least we're really on the move now. Hurrah

Hi,

Not sure about Coton, but Whittington is lovely, My friends have just taken over The Dog and it's lovely, and the Bell is such a nice pub! The school there is supposed to be fab too.

JODIEwantsanewname · 24/11/2009 22:46

How did you get on this weekend???

spiralqueen · 25/11/2009 10:36

Good I think! Shortlisted 2 houses one in Fradley village and the other in Coton. The house on the A38 had a much smaller drive than it looked on Rightmove and so you could hear the traffic in the back garden. The couple that owned it were very nice but didn't seem very involved in the village and so only knew there were pubs but not anything about them, and weren't very aware of societies and clubs (like WI). The house needed to be redecorated throughout as their tastes and ours were quite different and the butterscotch Angel Delight coloured bathroom suite would have had to go very quickly.

Got chance for a much more detailed drive around Alrewas and managed to discount Mellor Drive - my FIL who's a surveyor couldn't believe it had ever got through planning with that density of housing. He kept going on about how on earth would emergency vehicles get down there!

We had all the valuers around our place last week and the estate agents and we're now waiting to hear from the relocation company what they are going to give us for our house. Hoping to get that by early next week and then we can make a decision on which house we want. Looks like we could be living in the area by the end of January

Then it's on to the fun part of furnishing the new place so we're surrounded by loads of John Lewis/Next/Ikea/Lakeland etc catalogues

How's things with you?

OP posts:
JODIEwantsanewname · 11/12/2009 08:48

Glad your getting close!!!

I know about Mellor Drive, it's a bloody nightmare, when DS1 was born I did an Avon round and that was one of the roads, and there is no pavement, no proper parking, not at least for the residents, but what if you have visitors, or, heaven forbid, a party!!!! There was abit of about it when it was built, and I can't really believe people bought there, it was so overpriced!!!!

I'm now not working as much DS1 gets his funded place in Jan and DS2 can start pre-school, so childcare will go from £120 a week to £45!!!! Which means I can now 'afford' to go back to work properly (IYKWIM) I've now an office job in Burton, 3 days a week from 9.30-3, fits perfectly round pre-school, so thats ace!!!! NO MORE BAR NIGHTS!!!!!! I still do the Body Shop Parties though, as I really enjoy those and they pay well!

Have you decided on the house yet?

spiralqueen · 22/12/2009 14:28

Hi Jodie - we've had offer accepted on a cottage in Coton but I won't feel certain about it until we have the keys. The vendors have been chopping and changing their minds constantly about everything from whether to sell, what they would buy, when they would vacate, the fixtures and fittings.... you name it they've changed their mind about it so it's all been horribly stressful. Finger's crossed though we should be in by mid-Feb.

You must be so happy about getting shot of the bar work - it must have been very tiring juggling that and the DCs.

Have a lovely Christmas and an excellent New Year. Will keep you updated as we get closer...

Are you still there Spiralqueen

How are things?

jakermaker · 23/08/2010 12:36

Moving to Lichfield area and have a teenage daughter, I an trying to find out about the High speed train plans at the moment. Is there anywhere I should avoid do you know?

JODIEwantsanewname · 24/08/2010 08:43

Hi there,

The High Speed TRain will most probably be on the Eastern sideof the city, but needs a huge budget and it doesn't look like it will happen in the near future!

There are some 'dodgy' areas of Lichfield, but we are fortunate to say that dodgy in Lichfield is nothing compared to some cities!!!

If you let me know where you are looking I'll let you know what the area is like!

Good luck x

spiralqueen · 24/08/2010 12:52

Hi Jodie - yes still here. The house in Coton fell through due to the vendors being a total nightmare - don't think they'll ever sell the house. However these things all happen for a reason and we ending up buying a much nicer house in Edingale, so just down the road from you.

Loving living here Grin

jakermaker · 24/08/2010 15:08

Hi Jodie,

We are looking at south of Lichfield and western side (thanks for the advice). Also looking at Burntwood as I beleive this has a good bus service in and out of Lichfield. Boley Park looks good though.

Catchment areas for Edward V1 school seem to be nice as well. Grateful for any information from people who know the area.

Thanks.

littledutchchicken · 24/08/2010 21:54

We're in Penkridge and love it. Would highly recommend.

JODIEwantsanewname · 24/08/2010 22:33

King Edwards School is the best (I'm not bias though Grin)

Burntwood is OK, don't really know that area well enough to comment, but South Lichfield is nice, Boley Park is nice, the 'rough' bits are areas around Weston Road, but as I said, they aren't really that dodgy compared to some places in England!

Spiral Yeah, how the devil are you? Edingale is lovely. Is your Daughter settled into nursery, or does she start reception this year?

spiralqueen · 26/08/2010 12:48

Jodie DD in nursery in the village, a little way off school yet. She is going through a phase at the moment of not wanting to go to nursery at the moment but enjoying herself when she's there. Guess they all go through that.

Pub has shut in the village for 3 months as it has been sold on to someone who is converting it to a (child-free) wine bar. Clearly someone who has no idea about what will be successful in a village Hmm

Jakermaker have you thought about Shenstone if you want to be on that side of Lichfield? We were warned off Burntwood a bit by the EAs who advised that there are less than lovely bits of Burntwood which are difficult to spot when you are not local.

spiralqueen · 26/08/2010 13:11

Jodie forgot to ask - how is the office job workong out?

OP posts:
JODIEwantsanewname · 26/08/2010 15:50

Hi Spiral Grrr about the pub closing! We are lucky to have 3 here to chose from, although in the summer there is only one beer garden thats nice enough for the kids!

I'm sure your DD is having you on, DS1 went though this not long ago (and he is nearly 4!) They just know how to push our buttons, as soon as my back was turned he was running around with his friends! Little bugger Grin

The office job is going well, I've been there nearly a year and the hours are perfect for school. (9.30-3pm, 3 days a week) I also run a little side line as an ironing lady! (blatent plug, but if you, or know of anyone that could 'use' my services, I will be glad to help!)

How's your job going? Did the relocation run smoothly?

Ashleia · 30/01/2015 15:44

Hello all, I know their are plenty of discussions about moving into this area but they are quite old and i was hoping for some up to date infosmile
We are looking for reasonably priced housing in a rural setting and a good Primary school as i have 2 kids, 1 starting juniors and the other Infants. We have no idea about where is a good place to settle and where to avoid, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Kazmanc46 · 16/05/2017 12:40
