Can you recommend really nice sofa shops other than the usual Heals/John Lewis etc etc?

We have just had an offer accepted on our dream home. If it goes through then I want a gorgeous new sofa for the middle of the new sitting room. It will be in the middle of the room (not against a wall) so its shape will be very important.

I can't find what I want on any of the normal sites. Any recommendations for sofa sites?

(Incidentally the sofa I picture is a three seater with a elegant slope to its back, short wooden legs and arms that come up half the length of the back and are also at a slight angle).

Sofa workshop do really nice ones, but I think they are, or have, gone bust so wouldn't recommend them!

Have you looked at Laura Ashley? Or Habitat?

I read good things about sofa.com in a magazine once, but I've no personal experience of them.

preggersplayspop · 26/02/2009 21:45

How about this one

MrsMattie · 26/02/2009 21:46

Sofa Workshop very reasonable.

Darlings of Chelsea?

Multi York if you are prepared to pay slightly more.

I've heard M&S do decent sofas, too.

Is this the sort of style you were thinking of?

Thanks.

I am not keen on Sofa Workshop. We got out last sofa from there and it has not kept its shape well at all.

I want this sofa to be a thing of beauty as well as a comfortable place to slump. Something a but unsual.

I quite like your link Pannacotta. I am a bit worried about such high arms though. I like to rest my arm on the sofa arm and lean over while watching TV.

What do people think of this one. Ignore fabric. Is it too frumpy?

IMO it's a bit too trad, but of course design is a very personal choice.
If you like it and find it comfy (as far as you can tell when trying a sofa in a shop) then go for it!

Quite like the shape, apart from the wavy back.

Multiyork, as MrsMattie says, is worth looking at (my mum and dad swear by them, they last for years). Just had a quick look at the website and there may be some designs similar to what you are looking for, and they have loads of fabric choices

www.parker-and-farr-furniture.co.uk/Sofas.htm parker & farr do lovely sofas, but they are £££££££

artichokes · 26/02/2009 22:20

I quite like this one too. Again ignore fabric.

I hanker after a George Sherlock sofa although they are on the bespoke ££££ side! They do classic shapes really well and have amazing fabrics. My mate has one and I'm very as it's so beautiful...and comfy!

Our Multiyork sofa is over 10 years old and still going strong - I definitely recommend them - plus you can have any sofa in any fabric which makes life easier.

MollieO · 04/03/2009 14:24

Depends where you are. I'd highly recommend [http://thorngateupholstery.co.uk these]. Don't be put off by the old fashioned pictures. They make all sorts of sofas in any fabric you want. Like sofa workshop but a lot cheaper and they are still in business! I've had my sofas ten years and they look like new.

MollieO · 04/03/2009 14:25
