Is it mad to say I wouldn’t want to live there? No where nearby to get a pint of milk, no neighbours. Drowning in chintz. Ham is a bit of an unreal place too -not much social mix that I can see. I know it’s objectively wonderful but it made my heart sink a bit.

There's what looks like a lovely pub just round the corner, and a Sainsbury's Local and a Greggs 10 minutes walk away, so no problem getting a pint of milk and a sausage roll 😁

Why???

It’s the epitome of greed.

It’s the epitome of greed.

It's a bit of an obscenity, isn't it 😂

Doggymummar · 10/07/2026 17:53

That's how to present a property for sale, beautiful ❤️

Yes!

SwedishEdith · 10/07/2026 18:25

God, the income you'd need just for the upkeep of that house. Imagine the stories it could tell.

38thparallel · 10/07/2026 18:33

@Differentforgirls
In what way is it obscene? The decor? The size of the house?
If the latter, what is the maximum size a house can be before it becomes obscene?

IlovedLadybirdbooks · 10/07/2026 18:43

It's not that some people can afford £25m for a house. It's that so many can't afford a home, are homeless, live in poor quality accommodation, children live in poverty.

You can appreciate a beautiful property whilst finding wealth inequality rather sickening.

It epitomises the British class system at its finest.

What about if housing was designated for everyone by family size.
Therefore a family with two children could live in a house with maximum four bedrooms and a family with no children could only have a property with two bedrooms.
However the square footage of 4 bedroomed houses varies a lot so I don’t know how the larger ones and the smaller ones would be designated.
Few families nowadays have 6 or more children so houses with 8 or more bedrooms would be divided up into flats.

DrPrunesqualer · 10/07/2026 22:08

Stunning building and gardens

I could live in it now with older kids but it’s not a great property if you’ve got a few younger ones
Bedroom access for a family is a nightmare

Thankfully it’s listed so people won’t be able to tear it all apart

There's a Costa, a Turkish supermarket and a laundromat too! Not sure why pp was making it out like it is the middle of nowhere. Big Sainsbury's and Waitrose stores within 10 minutes' drive too.

LittleGreenDragons · 10/07/2026 22:19

I'm surprised at how few pictures there are. At least half are of the gardens! It does look beautiful though 😍

CombatBarbie · 10/07/2026 22:25

Not many pictures considering its size. Its sickening that it is only one council band difference, its a H between it and my house thats work 380k!!!

DogSnufflySnout · 10/07/2026 22:31

Love the fact that there’s an ad next to it saying “ Need to sell before you buy?”
See…. Us poor people aren’t forgotten after all! 😁

Blankscreen · 10/07/2026 22:34

Ah its lovely. Even a standard lottery win wouldn't stretch to that.

A mere £3milliion due in stamp duty too assuming you are a UK buyer.

Sadly I suspect it will be sold to an overseas buyer.

Ham is a real place. Btw, Mix doesnt equal real!

the most impoverished underprivileged areas are as real as the wealthiest privileged ones. Unless the whole world is an illusion, Singapore is as real as Bradford.

Ham has a big council estate not far from that house.

mynameiscalypso · 10/07/2026 22:41

There used to be a summer fete in the gardens when I was a child. My mum was furious because my dad took us one year and we came home with two goldfish that he’d won.

Totally agree with ‘drowning in chintz’.
As with all houses, ‘you have to see past the decor’, I couldn’t, there is too much of it.
Fortunately for me, it is not likely to ever be a problem I ever have in life…

JennyForeigner · 11/07/2026 07:40

Lol at the mortgage calculator.

TourdeCrema · 11/07/2026 07:49

It’s not to my liking, beautiful outside, but far too stuffy and cluttered for me. I get it’s of an era and can respect that

i do love the swimming pool, the hall way, the patio and the swing pool/summer house.

sending a screenshot to DH to let him know I expect our lawn stripes to be diagonal and not vertical from now on… 🤭

100%

I also like stripes that go horizontally and vertically, on the diagonal. That's asking a lot, it probably takes half a day to do that Grin

I bet they talk posh though, coming from Ham don't you know, and they don't wee in the shower,
