Where would you live and why?

Hi all

I have a massive dilemma - I am old, free and single. I am looking at retirement and have no geographical ties, so can move anywhere in the UK. My budget is around £300k.

Areas I have ruled out (no offence to people who live here) Cornwall, couldn’t cope with the tourists, Wales - far too hilly (I have dodgy knees), North East England - the one part of the UK that I don’t have any friends/or relatives. Scotland, probably too far north. The rest of the UK, I have friends or relatives within 2.5 hours.

I would like to live within 30 mins of the coast, in a friendly community.

Where should I move to? Help

Norfolk or coastal Suffolk, lovely villages and towns in both.
Aylsham and Holt are nice in Norfolk and easy to get to the coast (Holt is pricey), am told Aylsham is friendly and you can go out solo and meet people. Good for dog walks too.

Suffolk is nice too, some good beaches and lovely places to explore. I agree on Aldeburgh and Woodbridge. Plenty of culture, both music and art with Snape Maltings, good walks etc.

Peak District is very pretty and people are friendly (although it can be hilly)

It's very hilly indeed! Parts of it - most of it, actually - gets absolutely rammed in the summer.
Plus any other holiday time.

Parkgate = midges due to the rain 😂

once every few years due to high tides and drainage, which is being addressed
nothing to do with rain

Hebden Bridge is apparently gorgeous, as well as being popular with older women, particularly gay ones. I was thinking it’d be nice to be surrounded by lesbians, as a retiree. However, now that I’ve written that down it sounds peculiar. 😅
