Why do I want the removers to do the packing?

Not me, I need advice to give to DC.
What is the benefit in getting the removers to do the packing? If all they do is wrap drawers, complete with contents, in clingfilm then what are you paying for? What else do they do?

They move all your stuff. And unpack it at the end?

Tortephant · 17/04/2026 21:18

The pack everything for you. Well worth paying for

mynameiscalypso · 17/04/2026 21:19

Because they can pack a whole house in a matter of hours. It’s like magic.

Itsokaytomorrowisanewday · 17/04/2026 21:19

It’s not that your child couldn’t wrap and pack themselves, but it’s the speed the movers do it at and the removal of stress. They are skilled in that area, the have a team, so they come and take the stress and worry away. The usually come the day before, pack you up and then mover come the next day and move all the boxes and furniture out. Also boxes and tissue paper and bubble wrap all adds up financially

Worth every penny

They really do wrap everything incredibly quickly and efficiently.

InsertUsernameHere · 17/04/2026 21:19

The benefit … your sanity. Best money I’ve ever spent.

Starseeking · 17/04/2026 21:20

So that you don’t have to. It’s an exhausting task at an already stressful time.

HelenaWilson · 17/04/2026 21:20

And do it much more quickly and efficiently than you could do it yourself. You will end up with every box and piece of furniture in the right room and you won't be totally knackered at the end of it.

sittingonabeach · 17/04/2026 21:22

They wrap it very carefully too. Done very quickly, like a team of locusts. You don’t have to have packing boxes hanging around for days

That's sort of the question. What is 'everything'? What are we missing, what are they so much better at wrapping up.

Everything means literally everything. If you’ve left rubbish in a bin, they’ll pack it.

petitpasta · 17/04/2026 21:26

They are amazingly quick at packing and their wrapping it means it's covered by their insurance. I've moved house 11 times and it's always been the best money I have spent on moving.

LongStoryLong · 17/04/2026 21:28

As above, they’re like a swarm of locusts. A friend of mine made the mistake of taking her child swimming while the movers were there, and ended up moving internationally with a bin full of rubbish because they were so quick.

HoppityBun · 17/04/2026 21:29

Because they are very, very good at it and quick. There’s less likelihood off damage but if it happens, they take responsibility.

mondaytosunday · 17/04/2026 21:29

They wrap up absolutely everything - that vase of dead flowers? They’ll wrap it. All your junk - that random screwdriver with as much care as your heirloom jewellery box. That’s the thing - unless you want your junk moved you need to declutter. They have the experience, equipment and skill to do things efficiently and effectively.
Also keep in mind unless they pack it your stuff may not be insured by them.
Worth the expense without question.

We have time between exchange and completion so can get ahead ourselves.
Drawers clingfilmed.
Clothes in suitcases.
Kitchen contents in boxes. Crockery in bubblewarp.
Garage tidied and ready.
Various bits stored at parents' houses.
What other 'everything' have they forgotten about?

@biser it just makes your life easier. We used them for the first when my elderly DM moved. She was moving closer to us. She was unable to pack and we didn’t have the time. The packers turned up in the morning and literally packed everything before our eyes. They also did the loft. Once everything was packed they took it to her new house and placed the boxes in the correct rooms (we didn’t pay for things to be unpacked)

It helped us no end and would always use them if we moved

mynameiscalypso · 17/04/2026 21:34

Of course you can do it yourself. It’s just far quicker to let them do it all. We had plenty of time too but I would much rather pay the money for someone else to do in a few hours what it would have taken me ages to do. They also come back and collect all the empty boxes too.

Tortephant · 17/04/2026 21:35

Everything. OP. Including your rubbish if you haven’t dealt with it.

never come across wrapping drawers in cling film. They empty and pack properly.

they pack better and quicker and in one day. They provide all the packing materials and boxes and tape. It really is worth paying for.

sittingonabeach · 17/04/2026 21:37

@biser do they not have any other stuff, books, ornaments, toys etc. Do they only have kitchen cupboards?

sittingonabeach · 17/04/2026 21:38

Much easier to still be able to use everything in your kitchen/house up to the day you move.

biser · 17/04/2026 21:38

Telling me that they are going to pack the contents of the rubbish bin and dead flowers is not helping the argument!Grin

@biser how big is the house being packed, how many people in the household?

emmetgirl · 17/04/2026 21:41

Worth every bloody penny.

It’s kind of the point though. I remember one move I did where we didn’t use packers and I remember opening a cupboard I’d forgotten about and realising just how much stuff was actually in there and how long it was going to take me to get through it. Packers would have done it in 10 mins.
