Please help me lift this horrible grey room

Long story short but this room was my ex H’s taste, not mine, and as it was ‘his’ room I didn’t go in it much.

I want to reclaim it and make it bright and lovely. obviously turn the skirting boards light again.

I hate the grey carpet; however it’s relatively new, doesn’t show the dirt and I can’t afford to replace it.

What colours could I paint the walls to lift it and make it feel warm, or failing that at least bright witt this colour carpet?

Many thanks in advance

We have Farrow and Ball Pink Ground on our walls, a sage green sofa, natural wood table and gold accents. Loads of plants and pictures and it's sooooo relaxing and pretty. We have a kind of 'distressed' rug that pinks up on the pink/sage bits and goes in the washing machine!

But then, I'm pink and green (with a bit of gold) all the way!

Thanks all, these are great!!

Im going to be buying a new TV and hanging it straight. You can’t see it in that pic but there’s an open fire place to the right of the sideboard so I can’t put furniture there.

It used to have a cream carpet which was lovely and warm but got wrecked by the traffic in and out the french doors (we use them all summer and have a dog).

I’m now thinking if i could put a cream rug as far away from the door as possible I might have the best of both worlds.

Trying to add a few more pics…

Basically we have a second reception room we use as a lounge, and this has just been abandoned for years.

My daughter uses it for home school and has a treadmill in here and no one else uses it.

But she’s off to college later this year so i want to reclaim it and make the smaller room the gym/ den

Another vote for pink. We have Dulux muted blush in our north facing lounge. Similar grey carpet to yours. We got some blush curtains from Dunelm which are the same colour as the paint - we never close them, they just dress the window as we have cream blinds for privacy.

Otherwise I'd go for a sage green.

Where did you get your rug from? Sounds like what I'm looking for!

I don't think you can go wrong. The biggest change was getting your ex out. I suspect the whole property already feels lighter and more cheerful.
Just go for it. It's only paint

I can't remember if it was ruggable.co.uk or something similar. But it's really lovely
