Buyer wants to bring round handyman between exchange and completion

Just this really. We exchanged Thurs before Christmas with completion to take place on 9th Jan. Buyer wants to bring round a "handyman" to see what work they want to do after they move in. Is this normal?

I'm not feeling very generous towards them as they had a late survey and then tried to force us to drop the price by another 20 grand. Can I say that they should wait until after completion?

how did it go @Greekurn ?

I’d email estate agent and say you hope he buyers got all the measurements they needed, and say you’re now packing etc and for this remaining week you do not want any further visits from buyer as it’s now a huge inconvenience.

I just feel like I dont trust them now and they could be getting someone round to try and suddenly want another price reduction at the last minute

This happened to an elderly dear friend. The buyer then asked for the cost of (a garden wall) the work deductible from the final purchase.

She instructed the solicitor that once they moved in and had the work completed 40% of the invoice was to be sent to her…within 6 months after moving in. She never saw one, the old neighbour said the wall had never been worked on.

Builders/handyman/what ever don’t like going into giving quotes on a house under contract for sale, because the buyers are usually using them to reduce the value and not employ them.

If they’ve been dicking you around during the process I’d tell them to FO.

Also to say, yes you can refuse, but don’t forget that they can say they want another £k off two minutes before completion

Can they?

Can they?

No they can't, the price is fixed when contracts are exchanged. It's staggering the number of people on this thread who are absolutely clueless about how buying and selling houses works in the UK.

Agree
Of course they can’t

Also Agree it’s quite astonishing but maybe they’ve never bought a property
