Lovely evening Mumsnetters,

Just saw this property on zooopla and I'm completely inlove ....but what would I do with all the land?
Decor is not to my taste but that's easily fixed.
I'm more worried about maintenence and what I'd actually do with it all.

What do you think? What would you do? Any ideas ?

Thank you for any comments.

Nice property, but the land would take a lot of upkeep which could be expensive. If you don’t want land, i’d be looking for something else. Beautiful property though.

That is a house that you’d buy for the incredible garden and the land. Don’t buy it if you don’t love gardens.

tramtracks · 08/11/2025 09:18

My garden -albeit smaller at around an acre - is similar and it is very very time consuming. You have got to love gardening, or pay someone to do it. Cutting back borders for winter takes weeks - pruning a large wall rose climber takes a full day etc etc . Unless you love love plants, garden design, care - buy something with much less land.

Unless you have a lot of money to pay to keep the grounds upkeep, or an amazing amount of time.
I would proceed with caution,

whilst big houses and lots of land sounds like the dream. The reality is - it’s A LOT! I mean - a huge amount.
cutting the grass alone - looks like a days work on a ride on mower. Every 10 days in the summer.

This.

Was in Silloth yesterday for a walk as it's quite close to me .
Do you know the area ? How close is it from the holiday park , would you hear it in the summer from the property . Would that annoy you ?
Do you have children ? What school would they go to ? And have you considered their teenage years if living there ? Where do you work ?
If you don't really know the area , have you been to the area in the winter months ? It really makes a difference .

Glitchymn1 · 08/11/2025 09:21

Depends how much money you have 🥵🤣that land will be a nightmare if you can’t maintain it. Gorgeous property though!

rainbowunicorn22 · 08/11/2025 20:12

bit chintzy but could be changed inside. as for outside get couple sheep

LadyLolaRuben · 08/11/2025 20:32

Id consider starting a clamping business and put a few small wooden lodges there to set up a business.

It’s not currently meadow thoufh! It’s currently - not particularly well kept grass (in the main). And to keep it looking like it’s currently looking, would need cut regularly.
It’s also a very big well established garden, that’s going to take a full time gardener to keep looking that well.
(Only 7 acres) hahahahah only on mumnet.

I did say that about the garden bit. The rest could easily be turned into meadows. But the garden needs (and deserves) a lot of work.

TummyIsRumbling · 08/11/2025 22:15

Good evening again Mumsnetters,

Thank you all so very much for your responses.
You have given me a lot to think about.

I have never been to Silloth. I've lived in big cities all my life and have been contemplating a change for a while now. I work remotely from home hence technically I could move anywhere but I have a young child so definitely need to have a good look into what options there are for schools. I could afford the house as is now but longer term I can see how maintenence will become very expensive.

It looks so beautiful but I think I might be biting off more than I can chew ....

Beyond the manicured garden bit I would personally sell it to a farmer. Just look up who owns the land either side (one side looks like its used for growing, the other side for horses) and see if they want to buy it.

I wouldn't want to sell it randomly to just anyone though though because knowing my luck a developer would stick 100 houses in my back garden. There no use me keeping it though as I have no use for it and it would be a burden to own.

lljkk · 08/11/2025 23:31

I'd only want all that land if I had a pony or 2.

Garamousalata · 08/11/2025 23:37

I love it. I’d get some hens and some alpacas.

XVGN · 11/11/2025 17:43

I'd turn it into a fenced dog run just to annoy the pp on here! Can you access the back field via a different road?

If I was feeling more charitable, I'd rewild it with a massive pond, wildflower meadow and orchards,

That property has been on the market for a year and a half. It's either over-priced or something lurks! Approach with caution.

Fridgemanageress · 11/11/2025 19:35

Six acres wouldn’t be a problem for me. I would make sure all the fences are secure and in the beginning ask the local horse sanctuary to put two little miniature ponies on it, or two guernsey cows to keep the grass down.

chickenfucker · 11/11/2025 20:32

What a beautiful money pit. The garden looks a bit floody.

merryhouse · 13/11/2025 17:07

Not sure why you love it. It's a really awkward layout with a minimal kitchen (and while it says kitchen diner, I note there's only a settee in the dining area). Not only is there only one bathroom, there's only one loo. It's between a chalet park and a caravan park, and between the house and the sea there's both a golf course and an artillery range.

Plus, I know personal taste and all that, but I would spend the entire time being jealous of the house next door...

80smonster · 13/11/2025 17:50

Meh to the house needs lots of structural work for me to be happy. Plenty of room for a natural swimming pond in garden. Agree with PP the holiday camp, golf course and range will get annoying.
